Is a definition of analogy necessary? An analogy is a comparison but does not mean one is the other. We are not talking metonym here. No one would be interested in him or partake in his organised canned hunts.

I did not see him called a poacher in these charges.

Fishing in the wild is exactly the same thing as hunting and you have the same type of people (though fishing seems to be more 'gentle' than furry wildlife hunting) - the responsible fisherman (a few fish, fished within the law in authorised places, generally for food - not looking to break any records. A lot of times will even catch and release the fish if it is for sport) and the 'trophy'/big game fisherman (yep.. here too) who, on the other hand will usually seek to get the rarest, biggest, etc. in order to brag and mount. Big game will include shark, tuna, etc. A lot of these species are protected as well since man's ego have fished some species to near extinction. As with 'furry animal' hunting, fishing has responsible fishermen and 'rogue' ones and one can fall foul of the law just as easily. There is also commercial fishing (which, in itself, can pose a lot of problems for the ecosystem and could be another discussion) but as there is no commercial 'furry' hunting for distribution purposes, I don't think this type of fishing is relevant in this thread.

On Ted Nugent (whether one finds this acceptable or not) - in a factual/non judgemental way:
- He is a poacher - documented
- He is a trophy hunter - documented
- He gets a kick out of killing animals - documented
- He has no respect for animals - documented
- He makes money out of canned hunts - documented
- He is a coward - documented
- He is a paedophile - documented
On hunting:
- It has been established that there are different 'types' of hunters/hunts.
- Whilst ethical and therapeutic hunting is deemed 'acceptable' by all (seemingly), it is not condoned by all.
- Canned hunts are deemed to be shameful by all, with the exception of a couple.
- Trophy hunting is deemed unacceptable by all, with the exception of a couple.
- As Nugent partakes in canned hunts, is a trophy hunter and a poacher, he is not deemed to be an 'ethical' hunter but rather one of 'those' hunters - it's a sport from which one gets a kick from killing. This is again seems to be the opinion of most, apart from a couple.
- Hunting (the Nugent way) is not conservation, even if he would like to think so.
- There seems to be some confusion by some between a hunter (as a person) and the ACTS of certain type of "hunters".
Plus there are a few posts on Nugent's 'politics' and political actions (or lack thereof) and his rants.
My personal thoughts on Nugent (and I guess this makes me judgemental and unforgiving):
He is a lowlife, a has-been attention seeking whore. Should he not have his regular rants, his regular brushes with the law to keep him in the spotlight (and we are somewhat guilty of giving him a platform here), he would probably just be an old, deaf nobody sitting in his leather chair at home surrounded by his 'trophies', bow on his lap trying to remember what underaged pussy was like with the only beaver he is laying his eyes on being the stuffed one on his mantlepiece. No one would be interested in him or partake in his organised canned hunts.
As someone mentioned, he has a tour planned - he needs publicity at the moment.

The video taken appeared in an episode of the show first broadcast on February 9, 2010. California Fish and Game wardens who watched the broadcast noticed that it showed Nugent killing a very young buck which had been attracted by commercial bait. Both the killing of such a young deer and the use of bait are crimes under California state law. On August 13, 2010, he pled no contest in Yuba County to two misdemeanors: illegally baiting a deer, and failing to have a deer tag signed by a government official after a kill. He was fined USD $1,750 by the court and is banned from hunting in California until June 2012. In April 2012 Nugent signed a plea bargaining agreement to plead guilty to two misdemeanors for illegally taking a bear after shooting one earlier at a bait station. I did not see him called a poacher in these charges.
Time will tell how Ted handles these mistakes he has made and hopefully his

So, you don't see the word 'poacher' in the description of the charges. But you do see the words 'illegally', 'crimes under California state law', etc. Now what is the definition of a poacher? Exactly - no use trying to excuse this by saying a certain descriptive was not used in a someone's recap.
Most 'hunting advocates' who like to think they are doing a great thing for mother earth have absolutely no idea of wildlife management (prime example our dear mr nugent). What kind of animals to these 'hunters' go for? The old? The sick? The feeble? Do they know when to 'hunt' males and when to 'hunt' females (for conservation purposes, of course)? No. They go for the fit and strong, the healthy, the ones that will look good. Wildlife management is not that. Managing a herd of deer (is it called a herd?) in a 'confined' space is a science, not a price tag on a beast. Yes, I agree with the statement that hunting is a necessary component in wildlife management and the subject has been raised when speaking of therapeutic hunting (ie culling).
Fishing in the wild is exactly the same thing as hunting and you have the same type of people (though fishing seems to be more 'gentle' than furry wildlife hunting) - the responsible fisherman (a few fish, fished within the law in authorised places, generally for food - not looking to break any records. A lot of times will even catch and release the fish if it is for sport) and the 'trophy'/big game fisherman (yep.. here too) who, on the other hand will usually seek to get the rarest, biggest, etc. in order to brag and mount. Big game will include shark, tuna, etc. A lot of these species are protected as well since man's ego have fished some species to near extinction. As with 'furry animal' hunting, fishing has responsible fishermen and 'rogue' ones and one can fall foul of the law just as easily. There is also commercial fishing (which, in itself, can pose a lot of problems for the ecosystem and could be another discussion) but as there is no commercial 'furry' hunting for distribution purposes, I don't think this type of fishing is relevant in this thread.
