So the way the camping seems to work is it's $30 per vehicle. We can buy a camping ticket through Ticketmaster for the Gorge campground on Saturday morning. So I guess we gotta figure out:

How many cars/vans will we have?
How many people will be camping?
How the hell am I getting my camping stuff to Seattle?
What nights will we be staying at the Ramada near the airport?
When is everyone flying in / flying out?

Julie just called me from a rooftop in Boston. She's been drinking since 10 or so and just wanted to say hi to everyone and that she'll back tomorrow to make this thread move lively again. ;)

Well if that's true my flights will be in on friday morning out sometime Monday..
Camping seems like a nice idea... 12 passenger van could come in handy :)
bringing camping stuff could be a bitch.
Do we wanna camp at the Gorge? I think they are strict on alcohol and whatnot and I figure most people would like to have a nightcap after the shows :D Well its far enough away that we'll have time to discuss and make decisions. I'm pretty sure the "girls" would be against camping.

So Im guessing if the 2nd show is going on sale this weekend there will be no 10C seats available????

Isnt there another campground right there as well that you are allowed to drink it and its supposedly nicer that the Gorge one??? I thought I saw somewhere where the Gorge campground was more like just a big empty field.
  • stpmattbstpmattb Posts: 956
The Gorge or Wild Horse Campgrounds (I think thats the name)are the two places out there that are popular. With it being popular, the camping spots will start to fill up with the addition of a second show.

It would be amazing to actually spend two full days out there and to be able to go hike and see the river and such. The Wild Horse place has showers and I believe more freedom than the Gorge, however with the Gorge, you don't have to go very far after the show is over.

They will probably do 10C seats tomorrow or Wednesday - remember, they havent announced it yet.

See my above post about the other camp place. If you go to Search and type in Gorge Camping, the thread on it is there.

Wild Horse is the one I've been reading about.. sounds nice. $30/car per night, free showers, drinking allowed and a shuttle to and from the Gorge. Shuttle starts 2 hours before show and ends when all campers have been picked up after.

The email says July 23* and at the bottom says Dates are subject to change...

What is THAT about. Luckily the Gorge only does shows on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays...

Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!! I am so in for Gorge2!!! Yeah, the "dates subject to change" is a bit scary...how are we supposed to work that out with airfare? My plan is to leave Seattle on Monday, but let's just hope that if this date changes, it's not past Monday..yikes!

Edit: I just saw what you said Matt about the Gorge only doing shows Thursday through Sunday...is this 100% defnite? If so, I feel so much better now knowing that we'll be in Seattle for all of those days (at least for that week...haha)

I won't say it's 100% but I've looked at shows there for the past three years and they have never had a show during the week. I think it's because its part of a park that they don't do anything during the week.

I would love to camp, but I just don't think it's feasible or worth it to lug camping stuff cross country for just one night.

I mean yeah we'd get to the motel from night 1 really late, but why would we have to leave at 12 for day 2. I mean if it's a 2 & a half hour ride out and our tickets are predetermined, why couldn't we leave like 2 or 3 in the afternoon for night 2.

Mike and I were talking about this - its $30 to park at the Gorge to be able to drink. Why not just get a camping spot for Sat/Sun and that way you don't have to leave at noon? It's the same price. Then after the show Sunday we head back to Seattle and go to the airport and wait for our flights?

You can check two bags when you fly - my tent sleeps three comfortably and will fit in a bag that can be checked. I'm offering to bring my tent, all you'd need is something to sleep on.

I'm thinking of bare minimum for camping: small tent if possible, sleeping bag, and tarp (for shelter and what not). Figure anything else is just overkill. Well clothes and toiletries of course :)

Yes, but that's 3 people. There's like a dozen of us. I'm sure other people won't want to just sleep under the stars especially on the offchance it rains.

As for the 12 person van thing, I thought that was reneged a few days ago. Because people are flying in and out on different days and I'm sure people will want to explore Seattle in the one day we have before the shows and everyone may not agree so I'm guessing 2-3 cars will be needed.

It's going to be very hard to get everybody on the same page and to agree to everything when only 3 or 4 people are on the board at any one time. What we just need to do for now is get tickets and airfare. Everything else will work itself out in the next 4 months. I'm sure we'll have a chance to meet and discuss everything either in person or maybe set up an aol chatroom for everyone in the next week or so.

Look, I'm not trying to make this trip more expensive then it has to be, but I'm just being realistic. It's a lot easier traveling in groups of 3 or 4 then in a group of a dozen people.

Camping seems to be the most reasonable way to me with travel time and expense as well as gas prices. Plus get to enjoy the great outdoors. When will I ever be out in god's country again?

I'm sure we'll have a chance to meet and discuss everything either in person or maybe set up an aol chatroom for everyone in the next week or so.

Look, I'm not trying to make this trip more expensive then it has to be, but I'm just being realistic. It's a lot easier traveling in groups of 3 or 4 then in a group of a dozen people.

I'm just offering my thoughts on how getting tents and stuff out to Seattle would work. I know my tent will only benefit two other people, I'm just trying to help out for those that would like to camp and show how it could be done.

I agree with the smaller group bit - I can't even imagine all of us doing the same things at the same times and following each other around like sheep.

Thinking about the money issue, it just seems like you'd be burning more money by going from Seattle to the Gorge, back to Seattle, back to the Gorge then back to Seattle. Camping would save a tank, maybe even two of gas. Not to mention camping would be cheaper than a hotel - plus you get to do a lot more exploring and what not around the Gorge that you otherwise wouldn't have if you drive back.

Damn show is over 3 months away and I'll all revved up about it, kinda like last year with Philly at the end of the tour.
