According to the media, It seems all political parties are having struggles in vetting their candidates.
I am surprised with how many people are so foolishly on social media there are not more issues like this. In fact, the number of "bones in the closet" is surprisingly low considering how public people live their lives.
In fact, any mistake you make can be captured by someone else now. Pissing in a coffee cup is more than a mistake, but I doubt anyone with half a brain would assume the Conservstive Party stands for such deplorable behaviour.
The NDP in Alberta had to walk away from an elected candidate because of her Twitter account.
A Federal Liberal candidate had to resign her nomination due to statements made in high school.

The majority of the electorate understands these are issues all parties have, therefore it does not become an election issue.

You're right....but pissing in a cup is so bizarre. It probably shouldn't reflect on the party, but you can only have so many of these things come up before I think it would start to have an effect on the voter. This hasn't been the best run for the Conservatives these past few weeks, but it hasn't hit them in the polls that much yet. I doubt many conservative voters would change their votes...but maybe some might stay home.

I've said it before but I could never run for office....to many skeletons in my closet.

I am interested in where the party ideology fits with my own values/opinions on where this country should be headed. What amazes me is a guy who was caught on camera pissing in someone's coffee cup thought it was a good idea to run in federal politics.
Are we running out of people who want to be in public office? If so, we are all in trouble

The real issues are dealt with by the people we elect. We can only vote for those selected by the parties to be put on the ballot; thus, candidate selection is important and does reflect on the party, even if only their due diligence.

It amazes me that the parties can't find out about these issues before the candidates have been selected; after all, as soon as their names are published those on social media can dig up the dirt within a few days. Maybe not coffee cup guy; that's just weird and I'm not sure where that video came from. The others, though, should have been obvious.

The video came from a tv show called "Marketplace" on CBC. They were doing undercover work to find out if customers were being overcharged and the hidden camera caught him in the act.

Candidate selection is important, but I think we must remember, we all make mistakes. Who hasn't spouted off about a political or social issue and said something off colour?
Who hasn't forwarded a humourous email which might offend a segment of the population?

Once again, I would advise anyone seeking public office to avoid social media, lest be prepared for the public flogging you will get. Someone will find the dirt, no matter how much dirt is swept under their own rug.

I actually find it amusing how much grief Duffy and Wallin have been getting. It shows how the media elite have lost touch with average Canadians. They really think they have done nothing wrong. I have the solution, abolish the Senate. Done.

You hear the ndp are standing behind the anti-catholic church tweet guy? Good for them - his tweets, while unprofessional and worthy of public apology, were not all that far from majority opinion; I think a lot of people feel that way. Im catholic and I agree with him Not like he pissed in the holy water or anything.

That's been part of the ndp platform for years...
I like mulcair but I really wish he had carried layton's position on the Israeli occupation. I think it's a joke that every party in Canada maintains essentially the same stance on the topic.
