I think we should rename this the "I Hate Harper" thread

I'm sure you are all really nice people, and you are Pearl Jam fans which is cool, but your overtly left-wing leanings are just waaaay to much for me.

Everyone wants a handout instead of working for it. I will just never get it. I moved out of the house at 18 and my first full time gig was for 6 bucks an hour. This is after dropping out of post-secondary school and wasting taxpayers dollars for four years (not proud of that).

So instead of feeling sorry for myself about how the rich get richer and whining the government should pay me for doing nothing, I began to work and work hard. It opened doors for me. I moved to places people don't necessarily want to live (Fort Mcmurray) and slugged it out for a decade.

Now I make a really decent living and my lovely wife and I can give ourselves and her three kids a good life. But according to Trudeau, I'm not doing enough. I have to "give a little more".
It's not bad enough I give thousands a year in income tax alone already... I'm just not doing "enough".
Nevermind that nimrod Nenshi continually jacks our property taxes about 3% a year already, now Trudeau is going to tax me some more. Mulcair would do the same.

The TPP will not only benefit the rich, as stated by a another left wing lunatic. Does anyone really think free trade is a bad thing? Opening up 40% of the world markets is not good for jobs in Canada? Those "corporate whores" you talk about that EMPLOY PEOPLE. Or is it just that you don't really want jobs, you actually want to sit on your fat ass and collect a cheque.

Maybe you just want something to complain about. Seems like the way it is these days. If you think it's that bad, vote for who you want, but Canada is doing just fine.

This is the most ignorant post I have read all day. All week. All month?
I can't respond to everyone I pissed off lol, so I'll just respond to the last one.

That post is how I feel, call me "ignorant" a "NEO CON" or whatever else.
Ignorant would mean uninformed or blind. Everything I said was based on what I deem fact, followed by an opinion of that fact.

The Canadian way is to complain, to sit back and whine about how bad it is, when really it's pretty damn good. You have every opportunity in this country if you take a shot, commit yourself, and DO something.

If you like paying more taxes, have atter! There are about 60 taxes/fees I can think of off the top of my head you are already paying. What was I thinking? We need a stronger middle class!! We should all strive for the middle!! I mean, that's what Canada is all about right? Mediocrity... Just flying under the radar.

If you lived in Calgary, there is more than one Nenshi bashed. If he becomes PM, well that would be an unmitigated disaster. This guy still lives with his parents lmao. Beauty.

It's a free country people! I have every right to my opinion. You have the right to yours,
Funniest part to me is, You fight against capitalism on a board of a corporation, and that corporation is Pearl Jam. You don't think MOST of the money stays at the top? I'm sure the CEO (Ed) and the Board of Directors (stone,Jeff, Mike, and Matt) all make off very handsomely with the money you spend.
I'm sure their employees make a good living, not millionaires necessarily, but middle class living.
They support different charities (like almost EVERY OTHER CORPORATION) and do good deeds, but in the end, it's a business.
Hey, I see nothing wrong with it! They didn't need the CBC to be famous. They got there because they were good. Kind of like Apple, Google, Exxon, Canadian Tire, Walmart, spongebob square pants, Royal Dutch Shell, etc etc.

You live In a free market economy, all your ridiculous vitriolic rants about Harper making deals with the devil are laughable. I've said before, I'm no Harper fan, but I am also not "ignorant" either

Somebody somebody will explain to me how they think the world works without capitalism. Yeah Norway and Sweden, but they aren't Canada, with 10 provinces and 3 territories who all seem to think differently about what is important here.
I'm fine with the social safety net AS IT IS. I care not to give anymore, thanks Turdo. I prefer to give whatever else I can to organizations to help others without the government getting their greasy paws on it first.
Remember those days? No probably not because you have been drinking the socialist koolaid since PET
The Nordic countries are capitalist countries that also have strong social policies.
What are the Nordic countries policies on the niqab?

    edit - http://www.doamuslims.org/?p=3069
From what I can see, wearing the niqab is legal in public areas in Sweden.
The public areas are a fantastic place to wear the niqab.
    Government areas not so much.
    Legal there too.

Maybe you just want something to complain about. Seems like the way it is these days. If you think it's that bad, vote for who you want, but Canada is doing just fine.

So you took a handout when your lazy ass needed it, finally came to your senses and went and got job. You are the ultimate hypocrite.
You want a story here you go. I moved out when I was 16, worked and finished putting myself through HS. I worked the minimum wage jobs, as no honest job that paid was too good for me. At one point I spent seven months looking for a job. Did I get assistance yes, did I look for a job every day of that seven months you bet. Ended up moving to find work and when I did I worked two jobs. I then put myself through post secondary and now have a very good job in my field. I work everyday in our healthcare system and I am more than happy to pay my taxes so that it can exist. It's not about being lazy as you obviously were. It's about being a compassionate human being and understanding that there are others who need help. I know you are all wrapped up in the making more money to buy more shit nobody needs so that you can show off to other self involved asshats and feel good about your self.
Is capitalism needed yes, is it needed at the expense of the lower classes no. There is a balance as with all things in life. The trick is to not be so self consumed and to look at the bigger picture and see that if everyone helps there is less disparity between the classes and more overall happiness. This is a real thing that cannot be purchased like a 3Fap, it cannot be displayed it must be lived.
If you don't want to pay so many taxes personally how about you start advocating that the corporations start paying their fair share(at least the same percentage as the average middle class Canadian. If you're are so against handouts how about you start advocating against the subsidies the major corporations get before they slither out of paying their fair share of taxes.
There is nothing wrong with trying to attain wealth and working hard to do so. There is something wrong with being ok stomping all over those who may be doing the same thing but have not been as fortunate.
As for the CBC I'm fine with them giving voice to the smaller market musicians, authors, artists, actors, comedians and communities around Canada. There is nothing wrong with being able to earn a living doing these things that allow us to take a moment to appreciate the finer things, without having to achieve major stardom. Just a simple middle class life, paying their taxes like everyone else.
Anything you lose from being honest
You never really had to begin with.

    Good job.

I read the post you responded to and was going to tackle it, but decided against it. Your words have likely had little effect, but as I said... good job- you do what you can and hope for the best.

A country just to the south of us, which prides itself on capitalism, is wrought with poverty, crime, and desperation. In Europe, countries with advanced social programs see their citizens enjoy high qualities of life and experience happiness.

If I had been on social assistance for four years and eventually got my shit together... I'd be willing to give back to the system that never saw me on the streets resorting to crime or digging in garbage cans- allowing me to get my feet on the ground and make a life for myself.

F**king selfishness. Take full advantage of a caring system... get what you need from it... and then support the dismantling of it now that you don't need it.

well ... selfish is sort of a conservative trait ... the me over we ... i actually don't have too much of a problem with that ... really, it's hard to argue in this world if someone chooses to prioritize their own self interests over everyone else ...

my main problem with conservatives here in Canada is they lack the integrity to admit that they are wrong ... they skirt around the issues and just fire off bs talking points ... it's like they get a playbook and that's all they do ... you can't have a rational discussion with any of them because they can't rationally argue their position ... that is unless they flat out say - listen I don't care about anyone else but me ... i'd have a bit more respect for them ... at least they would be honest ...

the niqab is the biggest non-issue out there ... gotta hand it to harper and the fucker he hired ... he played on people's fear and ignorance and helped bring the hate out ... now, he's made the stupidest thing an election issue ... it's brilliant in so much as he targeted the ignorant and rallied them on something that no one really fucking cares about ...

this attitude right here is the problem. are people striving for "mediocrity"? if mediocrity means being comfortable in life without believing I need a 3000 sq foot home, then call me mediocre. I can be happy in life with my small house that fits my wife and 2 girls just fine. we have everything we need. I don't need a fancy car to feel good about myself.

the happiest societies, studies have shown, as oftenreading mentioned, are those with the most well-run social programs. a successful society isn't a rich one, as you obviously believe. a successful society is one where most participants are of equal value.

your society is every man for himself, which is incredibly selfish. I'd prefer my extra money go to help society, not fill my garage with useless shiny things.

  • Some people say
    ABC - Always Be Conservative.
    This makes more sense.

    Some people say
    ABC - Always Be Conservative.
    This makes more sense.

    conservative
    [kuh n-sur-vuh-tiv]
    Examples
    Word Origin

    adjective
1.disposed to preserve existing conditions, institutions, etc., or to restore traditional ones, and to limit change.
2.cautiously moderate or purposefully low: a conservative estimate.
3.traditional in style or manner; avoiding novelty or showiness: conservative suit.
4.(often initial capital letter) of or relating to the Conservative party.
5.(initial capital letter) of, relating to, or characteristic of Conservative Jews or Conservative Judaism.
6.having the power or tendency to conserve or preserve.
7.Mathematics. (of a vector or vector function) having curl equal to zero; irrotational; lamellar.

Which one are you suggesting, PJfan? Do you strive to be cautiously moderate or purposefully low, avoiding novelty or showiness? That frankly sounds a little boring, or, dare I saw it, mediocre. Do you like to preserve things; perhaps jam, or pickles? Is your curl equal to zero? Honestly, your ABC doesn't make sense to me.

I know. And my post included my views on #6.
my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf
  • I paid back all my student loans, just not proud of the fact I had low self esteem and was taken over by drugs and alcohol.
The government paid 70% of my education costs (estimated) and for that I am ashamed.
But when I flunked out of school, never relied on handouts or social assistance. I worked for two years at 6 bucks an hour and lived with some roommates.

I can't remember really what the other guy on here said, something about me being flashy and buying all kinds of stuff. I don't really have to explain myself to you, but since you were slinging arrows here goes.
We live in Calgary, where real estate is expensive. I have a 2011 Ford F-150. I have some clothes, music and a 58" tv I bought 6 years ago. I have an iPad mini (gift) and a laptop.
My wife has a 2013 Dodge Durango Citadel. We bought it used, as she has three kids and we needed a vehicle they wouldn't kill each other in
I have some hockey equipment and a PlayStation 4. I help pay my mother's mortgage.
I own 6 rental properties in Edmonton and only ask for enough rent so the units pay for themselves. If anything ever needs fixed, I fix it. My tenants are customers and I treat them with respect.
I really do not have many material possessions the more I think about it. My main extravagance is travelling, which we usually wrap around PJ tours.

I point all this out since one person on here seemed to think I was a "show off". As I said earlier, I would rather have the money left in my pocket to help my mother, my step-children and their hobbies, a few charities I support, and my own personal endeavours (travel, hiking, concerts, odd dinner with friends, visiting family spread out across BC and AB)

The more the government takes your money, the less control you have over where your money goes.
As for corporations, I believe the same. They make money and employ people. This whole election is about the economy and jobs, yet everyone wants to tax corporations more. If they get taxed too high, they just move somewhere else where tax is cheaper. I mean, that's just good business.

Anyways, I sure got this board fired up
  • NDP are complete waffles.
    Promising everything to everyone.
How embarrassing to promise this stuff 2wks before election time.
NDP is dumb at the federal level. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/ndp-indigenous-health-education-1.3260438

No probably not because you have been drinking the socialist koolaid since PET
this attitude right here is the problem. are people striving for "mediocrity"? if mediocrity means being comfortable in life without believing I need a 3000 sq foot home, then call me mediocre.

See my previous post Hugh, and once again, I am happy with HOW IT IS. We have enough government intervention, taxes are high enough.
We need a break from tax hikes, seriously. And taxing corporations isn't the answer. The answer is to curb government spending.
I don't have a fancy car (nor do I want one) don't have a 3000 sq ft house (although with these kids around a bigger one may be an idea lol).
My society isn't " every man for himself" and my garage has some bicycles, a push mower, weed eater, kids sports stuff, and camping gear (tents), hiking gear, beer fridge, stereo, some tools.

You see, you assumed a bunch of things about me because I don't share your left leaning agenda, and all your assumptions were wrong. I'm not an elitist, I still go to Bad Religion and NOFX. Concerts and party with young punks (shame they don't have good music of their own)
You are so prejudice of someone who is politically conservative you allowed yourself to make up a whole story of who I was. Funny isn't it? Like I was wearing a niqab and you couldn't see the face behind the belief

And my dad can beat up your dad.

I said no such thing. I have said REPEATEDLY, I am fine with the way it is. We have enough of a social safety net. Who can argue with that?
I wish less money went to welfare and more to mental health programs, which is where most people fall through the cracks and become homeless, self medicating on drugs or alcohol.

I just don't buy into your anti-corporate, capitalist monster ideals. The NDP is a WORKERS party anyways, attempting to be hijacked by environmentalists. Party with a split personality.

Enough taking money from people who work hard for it to support people who don't want to work hard. We need to have young people strive for greatness, not the middle where Turdo would have us. A strong middle class, we already have.

Would any of you be embarrassed if your child grew up to be a CEO of an oil company?
Wonder who the hypocrite would be then?

Opening up 40% of the world markets is not good for jobs in Canada? Those "corporate whores" you talk about that EMPLOY PEOPLE. Or is it just that you don't really want jobs, you actually want to sit on your fat ass and collect a cheque".

Maybe you just want something to complain about. Seems like the way it is these days.

I got the nutjob part wrong, sorry....you said lunatic.

    LP

No probably not because you have been drinking the socialist koolaid since PET
this attitude right here is the problem. are people striving for "mediocrity"? if mediocrity means being comfortable in life without believing I need a 3000 s

your society is every man for himself, which is incredibly selfish. I'd prefer my extra money go to help society, not fill my garage with useless shiny things.

Let's not forget that it was you who started the assuming when you claimed we were leftwing, fatass nutjobs who only want government cheques. So the victimization rings false.

Says the guy who took a free ride for four years off the backs of... us. Remember your dark period? During that time, when you needed support, I contributed to the revenue that assisted you and kept you from despair.

I've never been on welfare or EI. I've worked for $3 an hour. I bartended while going to university. I paid off my student loans.

I live a good life- I've earned it. But if you're telling me I could have a better life so that 'bums' (you excluded of course... it's those other guys without a story) can't access social funding and are left to their resources... I'd say 'no thanks'. I've got enough and if I want more... I know how to get it.

There's plenty of money to go around and I'd prefer it to go around than to sit in 10 bank accounts while countless are homeless, hungry, and desperate.

Geezuz man. Are you serious? After what you revealed to us... you should be the outspoken one for assistance.

    Wow. Just wow.

Sure. But do we have to crush everyone ruthlessly under foot while pursuing such goalks or can we achieve them keeping in mind the less fortunate or misdirected?

    Of course we can.
I would hope that CEOs have made their way without crushing others.
And in turn I would hope that others don't always think that CEOs have crushed others to be in that position.
Far left people though strive to make it clear that a title of CEO is negative.
