I don't disagree that they could be touring more if they wanted to, but I don't read that as they dislike it or are not passionate about it. They all have other stuff going on, so yeah, I suppose it's fair to say that they have other priorities. I'm OK with them touring when it's convenient to them, it's their life, they can choose how to live it and as long as whatever they are doing still works for me, I will continue to follow them. If it no longer works for me, I guess I move on.
I actually like the pace they are going, and doing what is important to them (family, side projects etc). I think it's more sustainable in the long run. I would love for them to be around for as long as they can, rather than burn out by having a crazy tour schedule that might impact their personal lives and be disconnected from their family and loved ones and themselves.
If it keeps them a band, I'm all for it. I just disagree with folks who think the band is doing us a favor by playing shows, and I think that it would be respectful of the band to plan tours in full and announce them at one time. This Ed tour wasn't so bad for that, but past PJ tours have been.
I'm lucky that my situation allows me to travel to see them, so I can see 5-6 shows a year without too much trouble, but I could see how the average fan is let down by the lack of touring.0 -

Hugh Freaking Dillon wrote:look, this stuff doesn't happen to me, as I've only travelled a few times for shows, but almost every other band/act on the planet has their entire tour schedule (at least a whole leg at a time) worked out before they start announcing dates and putting them up for sale. it doesn't make a whole lot of sense that they do this.
and to all the people saying "you need to have better things to worry about", shut the hell up, seriously. do you only get mad when your car blows up? or does it sometimes piss you off when something superficial doesn't work out, like when the remote stops working, or you can't find it, or your kid spills milk all over the place? save it. people have a right to be upset about something.
if I had gone and booked my EV trip this past summer to Minneapolis and then all of a sudden he booked a date in Winnipeg, yeah, I'd be pissed! do I get to see EV live either way? Yes, but had I known he'd be down the block instead of 8 hours away, then yeah, that's a tad annoying.
sawyer has a perfectly legitimate beef here, folks, whether you like him or not.
Yea a "legitimate" beef that was beaten to death for the past five years...until the dust settled and we had to accept that PJ has changed their touring style from the past. It is annoying that they seem to release small little legs at a time to try and generate more interest for shows...I think that strategy might be hurting them in the long run, but they either don't care (probably the case) and want to simply do what they want to do - or it is helping their ticket sales because they know the die-hards that will travel will later also book their hometown show if it happens on a later leg.
Again, we're about 5 years into this way of the PJ camp doing things this way despite endless complaints about it - it's not changing unless the band wants it to. Add that to the fact that Sawyer whines more about Pearl Jam than Kurt Cobain did. This was more to get a rise out of us than anything - a couple days ago it was about how Pearl Jam didn't tour the States during their 20th anniversary year. The damn festival was in Sawyer's back yard and he went - think about all the other people who got shut out or just plain couldn't make that trip. Yet he is the one bitching?
I guarantee he wouldn't have gone to Memphis anyway had he known before - and most likely if he's flying to Florida, he's seeing more than one show. Instead he's going to drive 18 hours to Memphis and back for one show when it's easily under $200 for a round trip flight from Chicago to FL? Just quickly checking from Ohare to Orlando round trip is $173. Hmmm. Someone just loves to start shit.
There is nothing wrong with making legitimate complaints about the 10c and how things work around here, but he has lost that privilege for anyone to take him seriously based on his past history in my opinion.0 -

Wow...had to check it out because I knew it would be good! I've never personally responded to him until now, but he is everything this club is not.
Person A at 6:30pm on the forum: Hey everyone in the Chicago area...FYE has the PJ20 vinyl in stock for $60!
Sawyer at 7:00pm: **Falls backwards out of his chair and scurries to find his keys: "Mom, don't wait for me for dinner!!" **speeds off to the mall and grabs the last copy.
Sawyer at 8:30pm on the forum: "just picked it up!"
Other PJ Fans at 8:45pm: Wow nice find man...enjoy!
Sawyer less than 2 weeks later on the forum: PJ20 vinyl for $110 everyone!
Thread locked - continues to come here and bitch about the band and 10c. Unreal. These people need to be called out on this crap. Take it to Ebay like flippers do if you want to be a prick about it.0 -

This is the garbage I am talking about and mentioned to Kelly Curtis when he was on here....of course I was lambasted but this simply is not fair to fan wallets. There was no need to release this date separately.....it had to be monetary reasons. "Oh it looks like you will sell that out Ed....Ok lets book it". I dont know. I do not live in memphis but it is closer for me than Florida...I could have driven instead of flown most likely. I just think its downright inconsiderate and it happens A LOT.

IN 2011 Ed announced an East coast Aussie tour.
Perth people (West Coast) were disappointed we missed out on a show, we stayed positive, we petitioned but were told, 'Sorry guys, as much as Ed would love to, it just can be scheduled in and there are venue conflicts.'
Our petition gained a few thousand names, press attention and I personally heard from the promoter. The message was, we're trying but it does not look like we can manage it, sorry.
In the mean time, extra shows were added to the East Coast cities, we kept our petition going, but slowly, a lot of us purchased flights to the East. I chose Sydney, others hit Melbourne, others Adelaide. I flew 8000 kms (5000 miles) return and spent over $1500 in airfares and accommodation.
Sure as night follows day, after we'd booked and paid for flights, accommodation and tickets to the three Sydney shows, Perth was added to the tour - two shows. Of course we bought tickets and organised a weekend in Perth - a three hour drive for us.
Was I pissed off (or should I say infuriated?)? No I wasn't, it's the nature of tours and it happens all the time. We decided to fly to Sydney, no-one put a gun to our head and my wife and I had a great unexpected holiday.
Ed didn't screw us over and even apologised at the Perth shows for leaving us off the initial tour. He mentioned how a two week trip had turned into a full month of touring and and thanked us for our energy which brought him to the West Coast. The two shows were the best of the tour.
If Memphis was not on the original tour, the reason was not to fuck people over, it's just the way things go and if you don't like it - stop following rock and roll.
Yesterday my Roger Daltrey "Tommy" tickets arrived in the mail, the same day the tour was cancelled due to 'scheduling conflicts'. I had 3rd row middle - same venue Ed played. Shit happens.
In 2009 Newark was added to the tour very late in the piece - I didn't hear many people complaining about that - and again, it was a great show - one of the gems of the entire Backspacer tour.
There are people in the world with real problems for more important than the 'first world problem' Saywer is raising here in what can only be described as a childish rant (Including you Sawyer - and I wish your family all the best). Learn to look at the bigger picture and understand the complexities, schedules and economic realities of putting together tours rather than being inconsiderate yourself.

If Dallas had sold better, then the show would have been there. Memphis was probably a back up. Seems simple to me. I guess we may get another one of these threads if a show is added on May 5th too. I may be wrong, but I don't recall a bunch of crying when the extra Europe shows were announced earlier this year....got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul...0

How can anyone not see that the Memphis date was originally a tentative 2nd Dallas date? How much more obvious could it be?___________________________________________

There is some really funny stuff in this thread.
Ed does things differently as he is so laid back these days, I can hear him saying "Lets do some dates and leave some space in between to see how the shows sell and in case I feel like doing a few more. We can work it out later."
Really, does anyone think there is anything more to this? Why isnt it a good thing that Ed plays more shows?0 -
I'm just happy Eddie is doing these solo tours! I discovered PJ very late in the game, and having the chance to see PJ and EV solo shows fills me with great joy.
If Ed adds a date closer to my home and I'm already flying somewhere else to see him, I'll just be grateful for the opportunity to see him, no matter where it is!!

This. A lot of people around here are not fans of Sawyer, so they immediately jump all over him no matter what he says.0
