Who funds the lifestyle of the band? We did, the fans. So don't act like Ed is touring for the good of the fans and the love of the music, because if that were true they would tour a lot more. I'm sure they enjoy playing shows, but only at a minimum.0 -

seems to me if they were just in it for the money, they would tour a lot more...None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe that they are free.

MORE THAN THEY ALREADY DO??? Do they ever stop touring??? Seriously?0

Even though the first Memphis show sold out very quickly, the second show in Memphis never came to be. A second show in Nashville was added instead.
EV wasn't originally scheduled to play Perth last year. The promoter in Australia even apologized to the fans, acknowledging that they tried to work out Perth dates, but couldn't. A little later, the promoter announced that they were able to secure a venue, and that Perth shows would be added to the end of the tour.
Point being, they don't always know how these things will pan out. Sometimes it's a sales issue, sometimes it's booking the venue, sometimes it's because the artist has other things planned around the tour schedule. And since you have difficulty doing some research, Pearl Jam has toured consistently for most of their career, and quite a few FULL BLOWN tours over the past 10 years.0 -
look, this stuff doesn't happen to me, as I've only travelled a few times for shows, but almost every other band/act on the planet has their entire tour schedule (at least a whole leg at a time) worked out before they start announcing dates and putting them up for sale. it doesn't make a whole lot of sense that they do this.
and to all the people saying "you need to have better things to worry about", shut the hell up, seriously. do you only get mad when your car blows up? or does it sometimes piss you off when something superficial doesn't work out, like when the remote stops working, or you can't find it, or your kid spills milk all over the place? save it. people have a right to be upset about something.
if I had gone and booked my EV trip this past summer to Minneapolis and then all of a sudden he booked a date in Winnipeg, yeah, I'd be pissed! do I get to see EV live either way? Yes, but had I known he'd be down the block instead of 8 hours away, then yeah, that's a tad annoying.

Isn't that what bands do? They make records...sell them...and then play shows. :?0 -

I got an idea.. if you hate the "machine" so much, cancel your membership and burn your LP's.. if you aren't willing to do that, bury your head in the sand until they announce the next tour.. where I am sure you will be in refresh hell trying to buy tickets..None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe that they are free.

I didn't choose the right wording. They like playing shows and love music, but you have to honestly ask yourself how much they like it, because bands like Dave Matthews Band, Grateful Dead back in the day, U2 and Bruce Springsteen tour like crazy.
I saw seven shows last year in three countries, and they were probably the best run of shows I'd been to. I like the band and believe they have a TON of integrity. I just don't think they are passionate about touring anymore. They tour out of convenience and obligation almost (but they give it there all during the shows - don't get me wrong on that). I'm probably wrong, but how else can you explain the 12 show long "tours" that have dominated the last 6 years? In Kelly Curtis's Q&A thread he said they don't announce tours in advance as much so that they keep things spontaneous and fresh. You could read that as the band doesn't want to tie themselves to a tour schedule and it isn't a priority, but an afterthought.
I'm just throwing out crazy theories here. Ed sang about how they are glad they made it to when it got good at Alpine Valley, and how easy it was now. Seems to me they like being able to play 15 show runs twice a year to pay the bills, and then have the rest of the year with their families (who wouldn't though)?Post edited by bootlegger10 on0 -

Ya know what? I don't like when that happens either.
I say it's not right at all.
Do other bands do this? Not that it matters, but I was just curious if this was common or not.
I don't like it, not one bit.
I say, you PLAN OUT a tour,...then..you SCHEDULE that tour.....and then you PLAY that tour.
Don't F with the dates in between. Don't. I'm not infuriated in capital letters or anything,
but nor was I ever affected by the band's "ok let's add some" policy either.
...For whatever reason they have or had for doing it...I'm sure it fucks alot of people up. I'm sure it has alot of people WTFing. If they don't have all the tour dates all scheduled out and nice and definite and stuff, they should just simply NOT announce the dates until they do. This is just common courtesy.
you can't convince me that it doesn't cross their minds that their "lets add some new places/dates later on" policy might possibly be f-ing people up. i wouldn't believe you0 -

I'm just throwing out crazy theories here.I was about to throw myself out of the window but I guess I'll come down from the ledge now.
I don't disagree that they could be touring more if they wanted to, but I don't read that as they dislike it or are not passionate about it. They all have other stuff going on, so yeah, I suppose it's fair to say that they have other priorities. I'm OK with them touring when it's convenient to them, it's their life, they can choose how to live it and as long as whatever they are doing still works for me, I will continue to follow them. If it no longer works for me, I guess I move on.
I actually like the pace they are going, and doing what is important to them (family, side projects etc). I think it's more sustainable in the long run. I would love for them to be around for as long as they can, rather than burn out by having a crazy tour schedule that might impact their personal lives and be disconnected from their family and loved ones and themselves.0
