A fun night at Jones Beach yet again! Surprised night 1 was better than night 2 setlist wise for me, that normally doesn't happen! But the crowd and sound last night was much better, I thought. A bit disappointed the run didn't see JTR or Captain. But Don't Fear the Reaper, Jane, Bayou and You Might Die Trying were highlights last night. Got to shake Carter's hand briefly before the show and at the end of the show went to Boyd's "gathering" and got to meet/take a picture with him! He really is the nicest man--I don't know anyone else who would stay that long to give every fan the time of day and then some. Just another reason to love this band!

My wife and I got to meet him in Philly last winter. Cool of him to keep doing this.

Still not over the fact Boyd does this...stayed past 2:30 AM yesterday AFTER busting his ass for 2.5 hours onstage...unreal. What a stand-up guy.

:mrgreen: It was AMAZING! Best part was how friggin unexpected it was. DIDO for the first song of the encore?! I was just hoping for Sister or Oh! I heard the first few notes, my best friend and I turned to each other and basically I attacked her. And DAMN that song sounds as good live as I was hoping :D I hope you get it at Alpine!! I think it could be the year!

I can't wait too! First time at Alpine myself. Never got into shows when I was younger and then I joined the Army and never got back home to see DMB there. So excited to see them and GPN next weekend. After some good luck, we upgraded to Pit for both nights! :D

That's exactly my problem. And I did that last year--after Hartford 1 and the Jones Beach shows I got a day-of ticket to Bethel! This year the Jones shows might not be enough either, and I'm trying to make the Bristow, VA one--always wanted to see DMB in VA!

Went to Camden 1 last night. Avg show with some solid highlights.

Quick question as I don't follow the band that much but have seen them a bunch.

What is the jam that they go into after "Big Eyed Fish" / "bartender" with the flute? For some odd reason,it sounded like a U2 tag... I just couldn't place it. I didn't think to record it.

    Anyone?
    9.29.96, 8.28.98, 9.1.00, 7.5.03, 9.30.05, 6.1.06, 6.19.08, 6.20.08, 6.24.08, 10.27.09, 10.28.09, 10.30.09, 5.20.10, 9.3.11, 9.4.11, 9.2.12, 7.19.13...

My advice, if you can take the extra drive, is to see him in VA Beach. I live in Richmond and am right between Charlottesville, DC and VA Beach. Charlottesville is always the winter/fall shows and you should try with all your might to see him there. Nothing like it since it is the home show and also a small arena. It's the best.

But for the summer, he always plays with more energy and a better setlist in VA Beach vs. Bristow. Bristow SUCKS to get in/out of. It's a two lane road whereas VA Beach sits in an urban area, so lots of routes. Bad thing about VA Beach is the fuzz. Tailgating is non-existent.

I was lucky enough to score center pit for the Beach show. Super excited.

Thanks for the info! It'd have to be Bristow this time, though, as I have work that Friday. Still not sure if I'm gonna go....my mom wants me to go away with her that weekend but I'd MUCH rather see Dave

ALSO: WHOMEVER WAS AT THE CAMDEN SHOW LAST NIGHT WE PROBABLY CAN'T BE FRIENDS ANYMORE. Holy effin crap that setlist! :o  :o (If I was a show snob at this time I'd say where was THAT sorta show for Jones Beach night 2...but beggars can't be choosers!)

Only 2 more days until I head to Alpine! I cannot wait to hit up Summerfest on Thursday with some great people, and then 2 nights of DMB! It will be the first time I've gotten to see them since 2011, so I'm happy :) If they bust out setlists like they did at Camden, I will be insanely happy.

Agreed! I've been dying to hear DIDO! They seem to be on a different opener kick for most shows this summer, so if they were to open with DIDO I would go crazy. Ended up securing PIT for both nights too! Gonna be an epic weekend!

Also, they cut Spoon tonight too. Would love to see them play it this weekend with Grace Potter.

looking forward to alpine this weekend. i'm loving that i have no idea what to expect setlist-wise this year... it's about time they be more unpredictable. i have to think prior to this tour they made a conscious decision to mix things up a bit- the sets are such a departure from the norm the last several years. it's awesome. fuck yeah, alpine!

also, my lt1 vinyl showed up yesterday. will be playing that tonight to get in dmb mode for the weekend.

Agreed! I think they have opened more shows with a different song this summer so far, than they did the entire summer tour last year. The encores have been great as well. Not the typical Two Step/Watchtower/Ants only.

Dave Matthews is selling really nice silver beads with lyrics on them. Also, some with show dates on them.
    What a good idea!

Pj could take a clue from that and sell merchandise with lyrics too! :geek:

Sets have been the best they have been (minus Caravan) since '09 in my opinion. Dave is sounding particularly fantastic, I'd catch them this tour if you still can!

And yes, solo stuff is thrown in. Gravedigger is most common, played full band. Sometimes Dave will start the encore with Some Devil, just Tim & himself. This tour has seen a full band Save Me, which was a real treat to hear! Also, this tour, Dave has been playing Oh, again just him & Tim, to start the encore--I'd LOVE to catch that one someday, it's such a beautiful little song!

What an incredible weekend!! I can't believe its over....I'm on such a high. Great sets (even tho still no DIDO), awesome crowds, tailgating. It just isn't summer without Dave at Alpine. My highlight was probably Save Me as a full band night one. Jimi Thing was one of the best I've ever heard. Is it next year yet?!

Sounds like fun, even with no DIDO...I was pullin for you and keeping tabs on the setlist like 'cmon, cmon...' Next time! They've GOTTA play it at Alpine one of these days, they love the venue too much not to! And I hear that on Save Me, LOVE the full band version and was a treat at Jones Beach! I want it to be next year too!
