Y'all claiming M-W (a fixed reference I utilize every working hour of every working day as an editor, btw) as your defense regarding the word "thug" are either willfully ignorant or have just been revived from a coma after several years.

Anyway, this has been fun. I don't even watch NFL games.
How a term in India for a murderer came to represent an African-american in modern times is beyond me.For years Thug was a ruffian asshole, loudmouth.  I'm still trying to figure out how that term became racist...  I know what some people would like for it to mean but it really is dumb...
Thank Tupac.  NPR or Ebony claiming thug is a racist word doesn't make it so. It certainly can be, and is frequently used that way, but it is not exclusively racist. Context is everything. The word 'boy' can be a very highly charged, and unacceptably racist word when used in certain contexts, but the word 'boy' is not racist.  Do a search on "thug" here and you'll see plenty of AMT threads where this topic has been re-hashed countless times.

    You mean context like this...

They're a bunch of unlikeable thugs, and I couldn't be happier that they're headed home to their Jacksonville ghettos while listening to their Lil Wayne and T-Pain

Exactly. That is a great example of how to use thug in a racist context. And in AMT threads you can find people calling pro-Trump, white nationalists thugs, which would obviously not be a racist thing to say.

    This thread took a turn.
And as a lifelong masshole, yeah that shit smallest oceans posted was clearly racist.
    This weekend we rock Portland
  • The big deal/turning point in that game came with 2:30 left in the 2nd quarter with Jags driving near the Pats' 30 up 14-3. Pats call timeout, and coming out the timeout Blake Bortles gets a delay of game. They converted a 3rd and 7 for a first down but it was called back because of the penalty. Most likely would have been 17/21-3 at halftime because the Pats wouldn't have got the ball back with much time before the half ended. You pull that kind of mickey mouse crap and the Pats will always capitalize. They drove right down and made it 14-10.

This absolutely was the turning point. No excuse for getting a delay of game penalty after a timeout.

So to sum up: Eagles fans are decent, well meaning folks willing to donate their hard earned money to Mike Zimmer's wife's charity to make up for a few bad apples..... Patriots fans are mostly all racists.

I've had a bad month. A really bad month.  A don't even want to get out of bed month.  Don't even care who wins the super bowl. Been taking my aggression out in this thread.

Im sorry. I'm just trying to stay positive. I don't want to be negative.

Hope the month ends quickly for you and that February is kickass.
Think of all of the wonderful things in Feb!

Valentine's Day -- who doesn't love that.  (oh yeah...lots of people)
Ash Wednesday -- falls on V Day this year.  Sweet.  The best look for a date night is a smear of ash on your forehead and to be w/o whatever you choose to give up for 40 days.  (Hope it isn't sex but if you are single now you have a reason to explain why you go well into April w/o getting to swim the current)
Chinese New Year -- awesome party.  great food, happy folks celebrating
President's Day -- perhaps you get work off?
    Super Bowl
Pitchers & Catchers Report & about a week later the rest of the players head to Spring Training

Joking aside, hope it gets better and feel free to throw poop at The Juggler but know he is a sarcastic sum'bitch and is just messing with ya.
