The new 49ers stadium looks pretty nice ... especially compared to the shithole known as candlestick park.

Are the going to change the name to the San Jose 49ers? Oakland is closer to that stadium then San Franciso is.

yeah i'd like to see a game there...

What a fucking dope Tony Dungy is......this is the same guy that encouraged teams to sign Michael Vick.

  • Tough to speak your mind these days, even for someone that everyone loves to blow like Tony Dungy.
I was already tired of the constant jack off the press gives the guy, hopefully they will back off that some now.

A lot of teams avoided Tebow because he could be a distraction and based on his skill level, he wasn't worth it. Remember, Sam had a deal in the works with Oprah to be followed 24 / 7 thru camp before backing off due to negative reaction.

Oh yeah, he's entitled to his opinion that's for sure. But it's pretty contradictory when he was out there a few years ago telling teams to give Michael Vick a chance and then now saying he wouldn't want Sam on his team.

vick was a starting qb. sam is a 7th round pick that arguably would not have been picked had it not been for him coming out...

True. And now it looks like Dungy's quote was taken way out of context (shocking). He made that comment a couple months ago when Sam had that deal for the reality show.

There is no journalistic integrity anymore. There was a race to the top of Mt. Pious by sportswriters, bloggers, and journalists calling for the man's head and not a single one took the time to check the source material.

I wonder how many death threats he got on his twitter account? Social media mob mentality at its best (worst) ...

I hope that Yahoos! Dan Wetzel makes a call to Dungy and apologizes for the scathing article he wrote. Dan looks like a complete dumbass in hindsight. He took a man's honorable reputation, took a big dump on it, and set it on fire in the public square without doing any research or even trying to contact Dungy or the person that gave the interview.

Not surprising. Everyone is in such a race to judge (myself included earlier in this thread) that they don't pay attention to the details that really matter.

I do it to. But we were raised in a different era of news reporting when technology limited the amount of time that reporters could collect information and transmit it to the public. TMZ, Twitter and iPhones now set the standard. And the general public is at fault as well, due to our limited attention span due to all the information that now flies at us from every angle.

I think Twitter and the comment section of online articles are the worst inventions that technology has created.

Yeah, I just made my judgement based on what I had read which was obviously inaccurate. Knowing what Dungy really meant, I completely agree that I wouldn't want that distraction on my team.

I do enjoy twitter...it can be pretty damn funny and I like it for sports news. But I'm not going to twitter for real news. Oh man, comments sections for online articles are the worst....people are insane.

Good to see Sam take it in stride.

Dungy was definitely misrepresented here and i respect him for not back pedaling and only clarifying his view.

I do wonder if there's more to it based on his personal beliefs, but I don't fault him for that. Though it could be viewed as a bit hypocritical given his circumstances when trying to get into the coaching game.

People want to compare this case to Vick....you gotta take the talent/level of distraction ratio into consideration. Also, Dungy wasn't a coach and was only attempting to help Vick improve as a person. Who's to say he would've wanted Vick on his team?

And yes...the comments sections under articles really reveal the lunacy that some people have. I'd think more of that would show up in more social media, but it's just on a different level there.

Could have stopped at Twitter. I will never go on Facetard nor Twatter. Are there some fun things I miss being a grumpy butthole? Yep, sure. But I dont have to deal with all of the other stuff.
Anyone know any high school age kids? Social media is changing shit. I would have been expelled by 15 if they had this shit when I was there.

How much more would we have known about Reggie White, Joe Montana and other stars who everyone thought were great guys? Glad this shit wasnt around when I was a kid and in awe of these NFL players.

yeah that's the point i was making. if sam was a 1st or 2nd round talent, then you gotta think the media circus/attention might be worth it because he has a good chance to start and be a good player in this league.

he still has that chance, but rarely does a 7th round pick become a starter. most end up on the practice squad or something. when you consider that, then you understand why he was one of the last players chosen.

I've been getting increasingly amped up for the season, then I watched League of Denial. I'm still excited, but I feel torn at the same time. First I think "they willingly put themselves through this," then I think "but do they really know the ramifications?", then I think "well they say they do and still go out there," and the back-and-forth continues. Anyone else watch this and have mixed feelings afterwards?

You are in for some great press conferences with Lovie Smith. He's a solid coach and will prob have the Bucs in the playoffs in the next year or 2. He did some good things here in Chicago but it was definitely time for him to move on.

Ray Rice knocks out his fiance and drags her back to the hotol room ... in Atlantic City where there are thousands of cameras ... and is suspended 2 games.

LaVon Brazill fails a drug test for smoking a doobie and is suspended for the entire season and lost his job.

What in the fucking fuck is going on? Has the whole world gone crazy?

I was just about to post the same exact thing. The NFL is ridiculous. It's one thing if the guys testing positive for coke or some other hard-core drug, but this is just weed. I know it's not the first time that the guys tested positive for the whole season for weed???? Insane. They really need to revisit their drug policy.

Ravens Warn Rookies To Save Some Extra Money For Bail

BALTIMORE—Reminding them that it’s something even the league’s highest paid superstars must do, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh reportedly took time Monday to advise the team’s incoming class of rookies to set aside savings for future bail payments. “It’s imperative that you guys start putting aside some money here and there—even if it’s only a few hundred dollars each month in a savings account—for when you’re sitting in a county jail at 4 a.m. and need to come up with a surety bond,” said Harbaugh, reminding the incoming players that their financial planning should also cover any potential legal fees for subsequent court hearings. “It may not seem like a big deal now, but we’ve unfortunately seen many great players suffer as a result of being totally unprepared for their future arrests. I know you see this big paycheck every week and it’s tempting to spend all of it right away, but just remember that you’ll need that money down the line for hefty state fines after pleading guilty to what will hopefully only be a few misdemeanor charges.” According to team sources, Harbaugh then reminded players that the Ravens offer financial advising to map out long-term investment plans so they can comfortably afford bail and legal costs long after their playing careers are over.

Just read this and figured you guys posted on it -- this is totally fucked up and makes me want to knock Roger Goddell out. What a horrible, horrible deal.
I also think that making the issue about weed is minimizing how stupid this is -- I dont care if the guy got caught doing rails off the coach's wife's ass or nodded out with a needle in his arm in the locker room. Those two things do not involve hurting someone else. (Well, no saying how the coach might feel about his wife being the player's mirror-ass to snort lines off from)

I love the game but this is total bullshit and these guys need to change this. Ray Rice is a piece of shit and I would applaud him getting an ACL his first game back and missing the season. Anyone who punches their wife out should be put in jail.

    Fucking animal.

  • I just asked my 9 year old nephew to take down the poster of Ray Rice (it was a pullout from SI a year or so ago...he has about 50 different cut outs taped all over his room at our house) and he asked why. I explained the basics of what was in the news today and he ran up and took it down, crumpled it into a ball and said "if he hit my mother I would kick his butt!"
    lol.

Do we know about anything that happened prior to him dragging her out of the elevator? I think he's admitted he has a problem, but they're working it out, so I assume she's accepting some guilt in the situation.

I think it's bogus that anybody is getting suspended a year for weed, but that's the deal the players made.
