Im sorry but to think that God doesnt know about good nations on this earth is very naive! I believe our country is blessed from God! I also believe that God knows what man will do and what nations will do here on earth! He is above you and your pay-grade!

I knew it. God is the 1%.

Here are some words about God from the great writer Edward Abbey. You may not agree with the man but you must admit he had a way with words!:

“Is there a God? Who knows? Is there an angry unicorn on the dark side of the moon?”

“Whatever we cannot easily understand we call God; this saves much wear and tear on the brain tissues.”

“Belief in God? An afterlife? I believe in rock: this apodictic rock beneath my feet.”

“What’s the difference between the Lone Ranger and God? There really is a Lone Ranger.”

“What did Jesus say to the headwaiter at the Last Supper? ‘Separate checks, please.’”

An just so you’ll know “Uncle Ed” was an equal opportunity social and philosophical critic there’s this:

“Fantastic doctrines (like Christianity or Islam or Marxism) require unanimity of belief. One dissenter casts doubt on the creed of millions. Thus the fear and hate; thus the torture chamber, the iron stake, the gallows, the labor camp, the psychiatric ward.”
"Pretty cookies, heart squares all around, yeah!"
    -Eddie Vedder, "Smile"

"Try to not spook the horse."
    -Neil Young

how bout 'please bring decency and respect back into our lives?' morality? niceness?'

throw 'God' in a thread title and it just stirs up the pot. then you start talking about the different religions and factions within, all the corruption and power-mongering, cover-ups and scandals and Spanish Inquisitions. terrible things happening and lives destroyed 'in the name of God' - it's a beehive of a discussion - a debate with no end that's been going on since people started trying to figure out who we are, where we came from, and what the fuck are we doing here?

what do you think, frank zappa?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=li7FZ6E8HOo

Whoever we are, wherever we're from, we shoulda noticed by now our behaviour is dumb
And if our chances expect to improve it's gonna take a lot more than tryin' to remove the other race or the other whatever from the face of the planet altogether
They call it "The Earth" which is a dumb kinda name but they named it right 'cause we behave the same
    We are dumb all over
Dumb all over, yes we are, dumb all over, near and far, dumb all over, black 'n white, people, we is not wrapped tight
And nerds on the left, nerds on the right
Religious fanatics on the air every night, sayin' the bible tells the story and makes the details sound real gory about what to do if the geeks over there don't believe in the book we got over here
You can't run a race without no feet
And pretty soon there won't be no street for dummies to jog on or doggies to dog on
Religious fanatics can make it be all gone
I mean it won't blow up and disappear, it'll just look ugly for a thousand years
You can't run a country by a book of religion
Not by a heap or a lump or a smidgeon of foolish rules of ancient date, designed to make you all feel great while you fold, spindle and mutilate those unbelievers from a neighbouring state
    To arms, to arms
Hooray! That's great, two legs ain't bad
Unless there's a crate they ship the parts to mama in
For souvenirs: two ears (Get down)
Not his, not hers but what the hey
The good book says, "It's gotta be that way"
But their book says, "Revenge the crusades"
With whips 'n chains and hand grenades
    Two arms, two arms
    Have another and another
Our god says, "There ain't no other"
Our god says, "It's all ok"
Our god says "This is the way"
It says in the book, "Burn and destroy"
And repent and redeem and revenge and deploy and rumble thee forth to the land of the unbelieving scum on the other side
'Cause they don't go for what's in the book and that makes 'em bad
So verily we must choppeth them up and stompeth them down
Or rent a nice French bomb to poof them out of existence while leaving their real estate just where we need it to use again for temples in which to praise our god, 'cause he can really take care of business
And when his humble TV servant with humble white hair and humble glasses and a nice brown suit and maybe a blonde wife who takes phone calls, tells us our god says it's ok to do this stuff, then we gotta do it
'Cause if we don't do it we ain't "Gwine up to hebbin"
Depending on which book you're using at the time
Can't use theirs, it don't work, it's all lies, gotta use mine
    Ain't that right?
    That's what they say
    Every night, everyday
Hey, we can't really be dumb if we're just following god's orders
Well let's get serious, god knows what he's doin'
He wrote this book here and the book says, "He made us all to be just like him"

So, if we're dumb, then god is dumb and maybe even a little ugly on the side

Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side
Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side
Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side
Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side

Firstly, it wasn't solely a post bout the posters love for religion or god and gathering others of the kind. Read the Subject: Please bring God back into our lives. - that's a form of proselytizing.

Secondly, he relates this god and religion upon our nation and history, which may or may not be 100% accurate. It's a version of truth, but not complete fact of what occurred during our founding period and especially murky when discussing the intentions and hopes of our founding fathers.

Lastly, this is a message board..some people come here to learn, some come to debate, others come to try and convert people to their beliefs while others seek approval of their own beliefs. Individually we post and we are unsure of what the exact responses or debate will be in return. Sure we have ideas of results, but no matter the topic or subject, no one is above being disagreed with no matter how wrong or right people are in their opinions. I personally enjoy debating and hearing people disagree with me as it challenges my beliefs and at times makes me see the good and bad in my beliefs. Anyone who simply seeks out confirmation for their own beliefs isn't learning, growing or evolving, they're stagnant and seeking reaffirmation from others. Sadly, this is what religion and many other concrete, extreme beliefs are.. unchanged views in an ever changing world and life.

If one looks at the best evidence for creation or the beginning.....its the Bible! There has been no other evidence that is better or stronger. Our founders knew that we would serve one of the two, God or Govt. They also knew from experience that if it was to be Govt., there would never be true liberty and freedom. So they made sure to include God in all of our founding documents and also made religion and moraility our two Pillars of Strength. Even the Atheist founders agreed with that notion because of history in Europe, Russia, Asia and elsewhere. They wanted something new and different. They chose Liberty and Freedom for all mankind with our rights granted from God. That is the only way to stop MAN from taking over the federal govt. and taking over mankind. The Govt. serves and protects us and are subservient to us. They work for us. This experiment has created the most productive, free and prosperous society in world history! There is no other way. Its been a blessing to be born here and be raised here. I pray that we recognize our history and expose the threats to it also, from the growth of progressivism. Cant we all just stay in the middle? Cant we all just stay where we were about 10 years ago....I want to go back......cant we reverse the natural movement to the left....and just hold her steady for another 100 years or so? Without being divisive and rigid.....i have been studying all other religions in the world and every one of them have something in common.....they all acknowledge the existence of Jesus Christ. They all compliment him and think he was smart and wise! They either believe he was a prophet, teacher, wise man or son of god! Even Atheists believe that he walked the earth! So if there have been about 60-70 billion people after Christ, and about %90 of them believe that Jesus walked this earth, and most of them believe he was tortured and hung on a cross, ISNT THAT ENOUGH to praise him? Even if he is just a hero to you.....isnt that enough to praise him? I know one thing.....if you put anything above you, you live differently! You live better for the world! Put anything above you and you look at things differently! You treat people with more love and respect! So cant you just put Jesus above you even if he isnt the SON OF GOD? Cant you just put something above you that makes you more responisble for the life you live? At the end of the day.....its only good for society if we all do this! So may God bless Pearl Jam and its fans, USA and its people, and all the world!

    1. If you truly want to go back to the beginning then you need to research the "Code of Hammurabi"....that will give you an idea of where the "bible" came from

    2. There is no historical evidence for Jesus Christ. None. Considering that there were thousands of people documenting history at that time that should tell you something.

No I recognize the difference between, god, organized religion and spirituality.

And when push comes to shove, there is changing or growing when it comes to very black and white matters in religion and god... most things boil down to the existence or not or creationism vs evolution. The more changing and growing a person does, you could say, the are moving away from what most consider religion is defined as. It's not discrimination or anything similar.

That lyric sums it up for me. God? God to me is a great Mystery. I'm happy leaving it at that. When I want to get close to something sacred I look at a tiny spider mite or a huge redwood, dew sparkling on the ground or stars flickering in the great cosmos, or marvel at the power of love.

You are closer to God than you think, friend... ;)

God, or at least how "He" is represented in major religions, simply doesn't exist.
He is a creation of human imagination, spurred on by a fear of the unknown.
It is a shame that I will be dead before human civilization realizes the silliness and absurdity of superstitions.

p.s. No, I don't care if anyone finds this insulting. Just my thoughts.

Nobody should try and make somebody else feel stupid for their beliefs (or lack thereof). That applies to both sides of the fence. Have a debate about what the OP said, but the moment you start......

    a) implying someone is lacking some character or "missing out" in their lives without god; or
    b) liken god to the tooth fairy

...you have no credibility in my eyes.

My philosophy is, all people, irrespective of their race, religion, gender, sexual orientation have equal opportunities and capabilities to be wonderful, or to be c*nts.

I have no issue with #2, because in my opinion, that's exactly what god is. a figment of the imagination. however, if I was to state that they were lacking something in their life because of their need for god (as some of them do in your #1 example), then yes, that's an issue.

  • I just watched The Book of Eli last night. It was interesting.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!if you haven't seen it and don't want to know, don't read on .

and everyone else, don't quote this portion of my text.

it's set 30 years after a big war that wiped out most of the planet. he is "spoken to" by some voice (god or an angel or something-it's never said) and given directions to an important book. This book, obviously, is the bible. it is his quest to find this book, and to travel west to a place where it can be used to the best of its purpose.

the kicker? the reason this book is so important is because it's the only one left on earth. after the big war, everyone blamed religion (the bible in particular) for all the ills of the world, so they burned them all. so denzel finds the last one, and takes it (well, its message-if you've seen the movie, you know) to someone in San Francisco and they get it reprinted.

what I found interesting is that I actually agree with the first message: the bible, but more specifically, the belief in different supreme beings, IS the root cause of all conflict in the world.

I found myself actually feeling disappointed when he completed his mission and the bible had been revived.

no it isnt. it concedes nothing. its like in the ten commandments when dathan asks the question, wheres your messiah now? its not an acknowledgement of existence, its questioning that existence and the belief in such.

my two cents...the people that need religion the most are the people that make the most mistakes in their lives. being religious is a way of them making up for the wrongs they have done.

I think religion is a huge scam. Just be a good person and you have nothing to worry about

The Govt. serves and protects us and are subservient to us. They work for us.

No they don't. The government serves and protects the interests of big business. You'd need to have your head in the sand to believe otherwise.

f there have been about 60-70 billion people after Christ, and about %90 of them believe that Jesus walked this earth, and most of them believe he was tortured and hung on a cross, ISNT THAT ENOUGH to praise him?

Where do you get these stats? There is no evidence that Jesus ever lived. So how do you suppose that 90% of people during the last 2000 years believed in his existence? Also, most people in Asia don't believe in Jesus or Christianity. Eastern religion and philosophy predates Christianity by thousands of years. How does this fit into your quaint little scheme of things?

have showed any form or example of rational thought only blame self importance and hate for something
that others find important in their own lives, you just can't wait to cut down anothers belifes and tell them how smart you all are...what a joke  the fact is that you don't want to know so you may never know Gods love. to bad...

At the same that the 'founders' of the U.S. were busy preaching 'God', manifest destiny, and slaughtering the native population, Europeans were evolving intellectually and moving beyond this silly superstition.

Anyone reading this post could be forgiven for thinking that the last 200 years of Western philosophy, science and literature never happened.

Are those the same Europeans that were colonizing much of the third world; trouncing on a bunch of indigenous peoples and leaving a negative footprint that is still felt today? And perhaps it's just me, but weren't those founding fathers also Europeans? Look, I appreciate that you pretty much despise anything and anyone associated with the United States but please don't tell me you actually look to Europe as being a paragon of enlightenment. People suck around the globe; Europe is hardly a special exception.

God is not religion but I think it is to you

We are all changing and growing whether someone believes in God or not
    or
    follows a religion or not...

the fact that you don't think this shows your discrimination of those who believe
and that is stagnant in itself
    God created evolution

    and your post here...

"Anyone who simply seeks out confirmation for their own beliefs isn't learning, growing or evolving, they're stagnant and seeking reaffirmation from others. Sadly, this is what religion and many other concrete, extreme beliefs are.. unchanged views in an ever changing world and life."

This sounded discriminating against the religious in my opinon

    saying religious people are stagnant...
when you do not know if they are or not personally, individually
and it is also a broad generalization ...

this seems stagnant of you to me because you have formed an opinion
and are not allowing yourself to learn, grow or evolve on the subject
    of those who follow religion.
