The Balcony sucked little mincey faggot balls - was up there until Corduroy and was about to unleash the wrath upon the annoying Polish woman/bouncer sitting behind me who kept pulling my shirt everytime i stood up to dance/scream and generally get very excited - but got so pissed off we legged it downstairs and managed to blag our way into standing section - fuckin awesome atmosphere down there!
Highlight of the night - Crazy Mary and Black/ALive. I fuckin love that Crazy Bitch - and there I was on Tony's shoulders , rising up above it all...
Those boys just don't let up - still fuckin rockin...
What do you call 3 sheep tied together in the middle of Wales? - A Leisure Centre.
It seems that most folk were in the pit, and it seems like it was a very different experience if you were.
We were on the second barrier and it was just stupid. people were pushing so hard, we could barely breath. My girlfriend lasted one song before one of Pearl Jam's roadies pulled her out. Unfortunately this idiot didn't seem to want to do the same for me. When I asked him to help me out he replied with a "Just push your way back". If I'd had any breath left in my lungs I'd have replied with a "Just how thick are you?". For a band who seem quite safety conscious, I was surprised at this guys actions. Fortunately the venue security did help me out once this pillock had ambled off.
So, we were a bit shaken up by that but managed to find a decent spot further back, where we were shortly joined by most of the people who had originally been around us, so we took some comfort in that we hadn't been the only ones who couldn't stand it.
From then on, it was all cool. Corduroy, Given To Fly were both amazing last night. Indifference was the only real "Oh my god, they're playing this" moment for me. Although the crowd ruined it by clapping at the end.
Alive sounded a little sluggish last night but Black was fantastic, and even though what happened to us at the beginning was a bit scary, we've both got some cool PJ bruises to show off now.
Gen and I met loads of really cool folk over the last few days, and I hope we all see you again sometime

so sorry to hear that (Oakleys are sooooo cool!) . I couldn't even last two songs without getting pulled out fromthe 2nd barrier by a roadie - I literally thought I'd crack a few ribs had I stayed there any longer.
Hope you were ok afterwards though.

Yeah, I was cool afterwards, if a little unsighted...:) I've a long and chequered history of Dublin gigs, I've been trying to stay standing since '93, I've seen things much worse back in the mid 90s (was at the Point the night a young girl died at Smashing Pumpkins, and was terrified at the RDS when White Zombie supported Soundgarden). Lucky I had a mate with me who was driving me back home, luckier still he managed to find me after the show...
Just got home absolutely shattered but another amazing night...
Only disappointed with some of those around me in B Block, down the front who barely moved all night and complained everytime someone stood up. I stood up and danced and had amazing time.Felt sorry for young guy next to me ,think it was his first show and he was dying to get up and go mad but was forced to sit back down each time.

It's frightening when you think what can and has happened in the past at concerts.
Call me a square but after being crushed last night at the Point (I came off lightly with a bruise the size of my hand on my leg).. I think seated tickets are the way forward now. Oh yes. As long as I can see what's going on onstage, I don't need to be desperatly close, so long as I'm comfortable and have the space to enjoy myself properly.

Just flew back to liverpool , what an amazing gig!!
I could only manage 2 songs and had to move way back. I couldnt see a thing but it was still the best concert i have been too. The setist was fantastic although i didnt here my fave song `dissident`.
First time in Dublin and loved it (apart from the rippoff ale prices) and would definitely go back.
The only downside for me was that i think ed`s voice is starting to betray him slightly. I know people will probably slag me off for saying so but he did sound a little croaky at times and winded but still pulled it all off.

AMAZING! just amazing. it was my first Pearl Jam show and it was just perfect.
I was with good friends Al Kirk Ciara Edel and Denise and i met a whole load of awesome people there too. I remember looking to the side and someone saying the two-necked guitar!! were gonna get Inside job! i nearly cried! we were on mikes side near the barrier. the crowd was great everybody was there to have a good time. The show started with Paddy Casey. To be honest i was surprised at him. I assumed it'd be just him with an acoustic guitar but the band was good and i enjoyed his set
the guys came onstage at about 9ish and the place went mental! they started playing inside job and i just freaked! they were on fire and it was just the first song! WWS and Severed Hand followed and it kept the momentum going! animal was great and DTE was flat out brilliant! everyone sang along it was soo fantastic. The best part was Mike kept waving at me and my friends, one time i waved at him and he stopped playing for a sec and waved back, i was in shock! Daughter was excellent and the crowd in better man was unbelievable. Why Go was a surprise and education was great Even flow was just WAAAAAAAAAAHSOME!! during the drum solo the guys left the stage and mike started stretching and stuff then he threw out a pick and i got it! it was THE pick he used to play the even flow solo with  the band was just on fire for the rest of the night. As soon as i heard Black i broke down, it was such an emotional experience, mike acknowledged me again and my knees just buckled (thanks for being there Al ) it was just amazing. Crazy Mary was excellent, Boom's solo was perfect as usual as was mikes in alive they may have fucked up the boys are back in town but i dont care, it was great. Leash was great I’m so happy that i heard it live and to end it my best friend Ciara was at the front at the barrier during Fuckin up and ed came over and gave her his tambourine :O she was soooo shocked! we left with 3 picks, a tambourine and a lifetime of memories!
i cannot say how much i owe this band and the amount of energy they have just baffles me, i hope they don’t wait 6 years to come back again.

I'm not surprised you would make such a comment being a safety officer, you're not old, just educated to what can go wrong AND also very sensible. However, we stood to the rear of the floor area last night where we soaked up the atmosphere while safely standing. I think a Pearl Jam (and many other bands) gig would not be the same if the whole arena was seated only.........any comments???
A few thoughts from the Philly airport on the way back to Seattle.
Great time in Ireland! I love the country and had an awesome time with my family and friends hanging around Dublin. Hope to come back soon.
We watched the show from the back part of the 10 Club section. I thought the crowd on the floor was fantastic, but weird to see people sitting down at a PJ show. Apparently you block everyone's view if you stand up in the side sections, so they enforce sitting.
I thought the reception for Education was lackluster, considering this song had NEVER BEEN PLAYED LIVE BEFORE. I thought the band was a bit disappointed, but it could just be me. They exploded into Evenflow, which I've had enough of over the years but the enthusiasm of the band and the fans made it fun.
About the "short" set - they were apparently fined 2500 euros for going over curfew by 10 minutes, also perhaps the reason they left off YLB. This was negotiated down from 10,000 euros. I suppose it's like this all over the world but thank your band for playing as long as they did.
It was great seeing security handing water out to the crowd in front of the stage. It was HOT (the band was streaming sweat). I thought everyone in security was nice.
One of our Irish friends at the show was touched by all the Irish comments. Eddie talked about how both his and Mike's girlfriends had Irish blood, and so did his daughter, then played Corduroy. And it was so weird to hear Eddie singing The Boys are Back in Town. I've always found the song a guilty pleasure - "if that girl don't want to go forget her" - but they obviously enjoyed it. We were staying at the Westbury and went by the Philip Lynott statue several times before we Googled him.
My favorite - RVM. Unlike a previous reviewer, I absolutely love the extended Jam, it makes the return to the song so much more anticipated and powerful.
And a last note - I hear that the sets at the festivals coming up (e.g. Leeds) may be somewhat shorter, dictated by the festival schedules. Just a rumor.

Absolutely brilliant show. I had tears in my eyes when i saw the boys hittin the stage. I was right at the railing at the front of the main standing area (was too late to get into the pit), the crowd were great, except for a girl beside me that just didnt seem to care much! she was textin someone when everyone was singing Betterman!!
Best moments for me were Inside Job, when the band came out first and started the song, then Ed came out and the crowd went mental! Alive was fantastic, loved Education, bit of a muted response cos a lot of people probably had no idea what it was but i loved it, also loved RVM and Black was amazing, very emotional. Fuckin Up is a great closer, but was sad they didnt play Ledbetter, probably cos of the 11 o clock curfew. Was also funny to see Ed come on stage with a cigarette for the second encore - anyone hear if they got fined for that?
Overall, definitely the best gig i've ever been to, and thanks to the band for makin the dream of a lifetime come true. Fantastic! Come back soon lads!
"...though my problems are meaningless....that don't make them go away...."
He only took a drag of it and threw it away. Was there much of a Waterford crowd up?
I was just up there with a mate so i'm not too sure. Saw a couple of people from work and knew a few other guys from Wexford headin up to it, didnt see them there though. Pity about Paddy Casey eh! We saw him outside takin a smoke when we were queueing, but couldnt believe it was actually him! When we saw him coming on stage we thought it was a bad dream!
"...though my problems are meaningless....that don't make them go away...."
IT's the first time I wtached Pj and I can tell you, it was NO anticlimax!!! People tell me how great the gigs are but you really gotta be there to appreciate just how amazing these guys are. Went with a mate of mine who's not that massive a PJ fan but he thought it was one of the best gigs he's ever been to. On the technical side, was a little dissappointed that there wasn't any stuff from binaural and riot act but the show more than made up for that. Was especially happy to hear indifference, black and leash. And nice one guys, for playing the boys are back in town. One down and three more gigs to go. Can't wait for the next one in Marseille.
If Pearl Jam was a beer, they'd probably be the best beer in the world!!
And a last note - I hear that the sets at the festivals coming up (e.g. Leeds) may be somewhat shorter, dictated by the festival schedules. Just a rumor.
not a rumour mate, it's a fact...and I'm pretty sure that breaking the curfew there would not just be way more expensive..it might jeopardise the entire existence of the festivals, especially in Reading (which is why I'm pist we get an even shorter slot)..so I don't think they'd risk it.
It's frightening when you think what can and has happened in the past at concerts.
Call me a square but after being crushed last night at the Point (I came off lightly with a bruise the size of my hand on my leg).. I think seated tickets are the way forward now. Oh yes. well that's why they put a second barrier..if you can't sustend that, I suggest you get yourself the seated places and leave the rest of us to enjoy the pit
It seems that most folk were in the pit, and it seems like it was a very different experience if you were.
funny that..someone mentionned it to us afterwards, that people at the second barrier seemed to have a much harder time.
at teh first (which was padded!!! first time I ever saw that..nice ), tehre was no problem. we always were able to push back teh space of a hand at least, no chance of bruising or not breathing...it was hot for the people behind us and at time they might have been a bit crushed but nothing compare to the Astoria
I'll be honest - I saw the boys for the first time in Manchester 2000 and while it was good I think I'd built it up so much in my head that I came away dissapointed - it just didn't click with me that night.
Yesterday our gang of four (after much debate) decided to brave the queue early and we got pink wristbands which we thought were just your entry pass - then the rain started and I had a funny feeling that it wasn't going to be my day.
Then we got in and realised the wristbands were for the pit and we would be about ten foot away from the stage - the rain clouds were starting to feel like a distant memory.
When I saw the engineers tuning up Eds Uke I was sure there was gonig to be a preset song but the whole band came out and from that point it just got better and better.
Highlights for me were the Rearviewmirror Jam (which rocked hard instead of the normal spacey experiments) - It's OK, Education, Boom going mental on Crazy Mary and Indifferance which had me shuddering. In fact it was like a two hour wet dream!
My only two gripes would be that at the end of Black the crowd were singing the melody which sounded so beautiful and then Ed came to the mike and started singing over it and then out of nowhere the whole Pit started Clapping like it was alive - it dampened what could have been my perfect PJ moment - my second gripe was the crowd reaction on Education - I couldn't believe my luck and Ed seemed totally into it and I felt we should have rocked the place instead of golf clapping!
Apart from that it the perfect expereince for me - set list was 'hitty' but I this being only my second concert (and the first for my three companions) I couldn't have been happier.
ps - The Pearl Jam party in the White Horse pub was great too - PJ all night and some funny people to boot.
Highlights:
Inside Job was incredible. Was a total surprise.
Matt Camerons solo ...(sneaky jesus christ pose there! )
Black. Beautiful.
Crazy Mary and boom's solo. Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom!
Rearviewmirror (dizziness...strobe alert!)
Education (YAY!)
Animal (1,2,3,4,5 against 1...)
THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN!!! (yes they fucking are. About time too!)
FUCKIN UP!!!!
Perfect, perfect, perfect.
Signing off to have more beers and sleep before leeds!
