After a train-journey of about two hours I just returned from the Arnhem-show.

Great show! Unfortunately no big surprises on the setlist. The boys were obviously having great fun.

Moment of the evening: Eddie running up the corridor in the middle during Rocking In The Free World. He stops only 3 feet away from me. Takes the hand of a girl and continues singing. The tears (of joy) of that girl after Eddie went back on stage were so cute.

    Tomorrow Antwerp... Can't hardly wait.

It was indeed a cool set.

I finally got to see them myself. I have them live on CD I have seen them on television and I have DVD's, It's just not the same knowing they are a good live band and experiencing they are a good live band.
I had tickets for the last time they came to Holland sadly enough the whole Roskilde thing happened and they had to cancel back then. That also was the reason that I didn't dare say I was actually going this time. I have kept some reserve right until the end.
It was worth it waiting 11 years to finally finally see them on stage with me present.
It all began with a kick ass opener by Wolfmother. I had bought the CD this weekend. It was already on my list but this was a good excuse to buy it.:D
They had set the mood for a night of happy rockin' and told us good luck and have fun.
Then the tention grow for me, I just couldn't believe it was actually going to happen. The intro started only the dude on the control board didn't get it, the lights kept burning. Lucky for us he got the hint when they got on stage and opened up with Release as I have heard them do so many times before on live albums. After that Why go which pleased me very much. I had expected them to go right into the new stuff, they didn't, they played only four. Comatose had been in my head all day and they ended up playing that in the first encore. It was great to hear it after I had sung it while standing in the line at the supermarket.

Somewhere during the set Eddie was standing with his guitar on his head smiling and slightly moving it. I didn't get it at first and asked my friend Danielle: What the hell is he doing. She suggested that he might be practising for being a living statue. After that Janette pointed to the stand where there was a light beam shining on the crowd. It was caused by the reflection of Eddie's guitar.

Bu$hleaguer was pretty sweet there on the end. Ed stood there in some showmaster’s jacket and he had placed a mask on the mic stand. Guess who? Indeed it was Bush. Eddie threw wine in his mouth and twisted it and throw it and ended up kicking it.
He apologized to those offended in the crowd by that act of violence. Not that there was any need Bush is not a very popular man in Holland.
Anyway he said that what he did was nothing compared to what Bush himself has done. He mentioned the death and despair that the man has and is causing, which obviously lead to a roaring applause.

He introduced Alive with: Now we're gonna play,....moving of hands, rolling with his eyes:rolleyes:,......well you know the one.
After that they sweetened the deal by playing Rockin’ in the free world and Yellow Ledbetter and the gig was done. I can't speak for others but I think it was a hell of a show and I still feel peachy. :D:cool:

I heard they don't play Leash that often somewhere on here, so that was a surprise for me. I don't know if it is really that rare, but I only have it on early live album.

So you are going to Antwerpen. Lucky you.

    criiiiiiiiiiiiiiiipes

did they forget that they have a new album out?

It didn't bother me one bit. I took the oldies and smiled while they were handed over. The only thing I did mis was Go and one or two more from No code, but I'm not complaining.:D

I just came back and what can say?
It was my first pj gig and the boys didn't disappointed me.The whole set was just perfect for me. Opening with Release was awesome but Why Go as the second song was a big surprise to me.The highlights for me were Lukin going right into STBC.Massive! Rearviewmirror and Porch in one set! Bushleaguer with the mask and the jacket, just incredible. The whole second encore was just brilliant. I still can't understand why they haven't played Leash for so many years, the song is just a fucking belter!
All in all a perfect night. I stood in front of Mike maybe 4 or 5 meter away from the barrier. All the people around me were very cool and friendly (except that one little Jeremy who acted like he was completely on acid or something and jumped the whole time into everyone standing around there. What a fucking prick.)
Oh, and I got a Sir Mike McCready pick :D

I had a good time as well except for a few assholes that thought they were more important then the joy of another. Still I won't let no f*ck*r stain this night with their bad vibe.

Well I normally go to like five or six concerts a year but I have never seen anybody that annoying like that dude. Anyway, it surely didn't spoil the gig for me though.

Glade to hear that. I didn't think he could. And if he had you'd at least have two more gigs to make up for it.:D

Belgium (Liege) but I had to drive a friend back to Brussels

bgirl59 : Eddie played the chorus of No Woman No Cry before starting Better Man
  • karma defectkarma defect Posts: 5,483
The light was on Eddie he started playing that by himself he didn't play the whole song though. He used it as an intro the crowd sang along and then the band joined and they slipped right into Betterman. Later he came back to No woman no cry in the middle of betterman.

That was cool. Before he started with Betterman he played No woman no cry and started singing it. He actually changed the lyrics to "No woman I cry" :)

Oh and I laughed so hard when Eddie (I can't remember before which song it was) said something like "There might be some really ugly people in the very back but all the people in the front are so beautiful so i dedicate the next song to the beautiful people of the front" :D

  • Woooow I,m speechless and i can,t stop talking about it.....and that all at the same time.My voice is gone ,I have blue vingers from clapping my hands so hard. But i feel greattttttt. What a show.It fellt nice that in the first session Ed said to take care of the person standing next too you and to look out for one another.I went nuts with the drumsolo's en the way they did rearvieuw mirror.Happy to say that why go was unexpected but more then welcome.Eddie changed his shirt for like 5 times so they worked their asses of on that stage last night and i will never forget the energie that came of that stage....you could see them enjoying the screaming and singing along from the crowd. The only thing i would have like to see different is....that every body who sat around me was glued to their seats the whole first session(or for most of it)But i danced and jumped and had the the best time.....Thanks PJ for making my dream come true ....It was magical(i know they don't read this...lol... i just had to say it)

    greetz Wendy
  • In a few words they were worth the ten years waiting down to every second... Eddie running into the crowd during "keep on rocking" and the beam reflection trick were the highlights of the show, no doubt. I missed a lot of songs (like black or I am mine) but no complaints there. They cant sing everything... Hope they make another world tour soon. Too bad I won't be able to attend the Paris show on 11/9, although i have a ticket. (anyone interested?) It will be a special one if you think of the date.
  • UNBELIEVABLE

    I'm still shaking , what a great show !
Only thing i missed was Black , my all time favorite song , but the list made up for that , RVM was great , i loved the beginning with Release me , i loved the way he talked to the crowd , he stopped singing with a song , can't remember what song it was , but the crowd (and me lol )took over , that felt great , they really need to come back more often and not wait another 6 yrs, i couldn't sit either , although everyone around me was glued to the chairs to , except when Alive started , i danced the whole show , how can anybody sit with this kinda energy ! The world needs more Eddie's , what a beautiful person
Hold me, and make it the truth,...

  • yeah... so this wa sthe third time i saw em live after to have listend to many many bootlegs..... Though they can't even come near the experience of seeing them live I think I can recommend this boot to anyone interested in the band....

Being someone that's totally about the vocals I've got to say that Ed's voice was amazing.... he was on.... as for everybody else for that matter. I dont remember Mike or Jeff go apeshit like I've seen them do last night... Even Stone was busting out some moves.....

They played over 2 hours and though it was a fairly safe set Bushleager and Man of the Hour especially wer e really sweet..... And though they dropped the leash.... the crowd reaction to this song was definitely weaker in comparison to other songs......

Overall this must be one of the best shows, if not the best, I've ever been to.... I saw two promoters from large european festivals there... (I know the owner of gelredome so he gave me great tickets.... I know.... I m lucky...hail hail) so I got this feeling they might do a festival tour nest year..... But hey... dont want to start to many rumours....

Overall great show..... with so many albums out you're bound to miss a few classics.... personally I'wanted to hear/see more from the new album and No Code.... but hey.... I'll just be bying more boots and try to get close to the feeling I got yesterday and the feeling many of you are still gonna get......

    I love this band......

    Peace

    1 word: AMAZING

I'm still tired, my voice is hoarse and should be heading of to Antwerp, so I'll try and keep it short.

Waited 2 hours before the doors opened and met up w/ Buru and have a pic to prove it. Very nice gal!

Wolfmother was worthy as an opener.

A brilliant opening with Release, how I love that song, the crowd reaction was awesome. Than Why Go, WHAT!? Yeah! Why Go! Being 10 meter in front of Mike the crowd went nuts, beautifull! Than Save You, great song! The band kept blasting the crowd away full throttle.. No big risks w/ the setlist, but the No Woman No Cry part really sounded unique to me. Mike was shooting picks into the crowd ALL THE TIME. He was soo funny, at one point he literally threw hands full of picks in the crowd. Jeff was boucing like a mad man and Matt made a huge impression, his solo was spot on. Sadly Stone and Boom were a bit far away from me tho.

A few surprises w/ I Got Shit (loved it), STBC. RITFW was awesome and there were sooo many people singing along!

Could have wished for a longer setlist, but F* it I'm going again tonight! Had no bad experiences with the crowd, just people smiling at eachother. Big bummer was the connection w/ trains back home, what could have been 1.6 hours lasted 3.5.....

THANKS PEARL JAM see you tonight!
    your light's reflected now
  • WHOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Yes, there were a lot of TEN songs, and only three new ones.. but WHAT A SHOW!!!!!
The show was great!! Like everybody here said; the release opener was fantastic... WHY go and Save you are second and third.. The No Woman No Cry intro to Betterman was crazy!!! Singing Betterman with the crowd...Matts solo during Even FLOW was absolutely insane and long... Ed and Stone were smiling on the side of the stage, I got ID was fantastic, Lukin was introduced as the song dedicated for the girl who got kidnapped out of Tivoli (a club in Utrecht) by the bassplayer of mudhoney (they are now married)... Ed asked us very nicely if it was ok to talk english (altho he did say some words in Dutch), cause he said that's the only language they learn in America and after that you're told that it's the best country in the world, so you don't have to learn another language. And he was very happy so see so many people after all these years.
Man of the hour was absolutely wonderful and my highlight of the show.
Ed doing the light-reflection-trick with his guitar was great.. SOLAT and Porch were absolutely amazing...
I can go on like this for hours... :D
Ed coming on stage wearing his Bush mask and the glitter jacket... priceless.. he took the mask off and hit it a few times, gave it wine...
Ed was moonwalking off stage at one time...
And Ed was talking about the crowd: "i don't know, there might be some really ugly people in the back, but the people in the front really look beautiful and healthy". Later, during RITFW, he came down from the stage to run up and down in front of the crowd and actually going into the crowd a bit to be with the audience.

I'm looking forward to tonight... :D
To the universe, I don't mean a thing, but there is just one word I still believe and it's .....LOVE!

Yeah, before Ed ran into the crowd during RITFW, he asked for the lights to turn on. The crew didn't get the hint, a few moments later the light was on. Later that song, he went to the side of the stage, a member of the crew thought he needed a tambourine, but he wanted a cordless microphone.
