Appetite for Destruction is an album I can listen to but that's about it with GnR.
I've check out Beatles songs and they do not do anything for me.
Metallica are to heavy metal what AC/DC are to hard rock.

its about it for me with GnR too.

ive spent so long trying to figure out how stephanie seymour dies in the november rain video, anything GnR released after is just lost on me.

if youre a fan of melody then youll get the beatles... if not then.....

as for metallica... im more likely to like guys who like metallica than like the band itself. ;)

  • Chris Cornell - Never liked him, never will.

U2 - Utter shite fronted by a egomaniac.

Radiohead - See above comment re; U2.

The Who - Just don't get it.

GnR - Axl Rose's vocals are fingers down a blackboard to me... Much like Cornell.

Muse - Don't even get me started on that steaming pile of...

This is all IMO you understand ;)
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

    Bob Dylan. Yup... sorry everyone.

why sorry? it's your opinion, some may not agree, I do agree, saw him in Buenos Aires in 2008, never felt so ripped off in my life, his voice sucked, it was chilly that evening, and kept on smoking all night long, he was paying more attention to the smoke than to what he was singing, if we can call that singing, and he only played the guitar on the first 6 songs, then he played keyboards until the end of the show...

AND THE PEOPLE WERE HAPPY FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!!!!!!!

I've never heard anyone who saw Bob Dylan say that he gave a good performance. Think he just gets paid to take vacations around the world.

Don't know anyone else who does that... (I kid I kid. Take it easy!)

As far as him being overrated - well I don't really get it, but I haven't tried very hard either. I think his son's band was very underrated though. Especially their two completely ignored 00's albums.

Good god, I certainly hope not. First, because they suck. But more importantly, because I really like Alter Bridge and don't want that fucker Scott Stapp doing anything that might threaten to break them up.

The rest of Creed is alot better off without Stapp. Alter Bridge is great!

I read several months ago about the possibility of a Creed reunion, but given that I have spent most of my adult life trying to avoid that band, I have not heard any updates. Are they really gonna do this?

    Say it ain't so!

Yeah. Actually I just recently seen an interview with Scott Stapp and they're reuniting for this next year:

Metallica - Same old meat and veggie sound

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you aren't a big Beatallica (Beatles/Metallica mashup band) fan then?

THANK YOU. Any time I say anything bad about the Beatles everyone around me instantly looks at me as though I'm crazy. I don't like them. In fact, I can't stand them. Get over it!

Reading through this thread I think it's important to realize the difference between thinking an artist is overrated, and just simply not liking an artist who is popular but still understanding why they are popular.

There are many artists I don't like, but I realize they are talented, although sometimes grudgingly. For instance Celine Dion. I hate her music, can't stand it. But she is a talented woman with a crazy set of pipes. Unfortunately for me she uses them on a style of music that makes me cringe. So I don't think she is "overrated".

Stevie Ray Vaughn I like a little bit more because of the fact he played rock music. But I don't care for any of it. I can listen to it and be blown away by his technical skill with a guitar, and realize he was an insanely talented individual, but the music he plays with that talent does nothing for me. So while I don't own his music, I support it in theory, and understand WHY he is so highly regarded.

I personally love The Beatles, and realistically I don't think there can really be any argument made for them being overrated. Maybe somebody doesn't like them, but their importance to rock/pop music is immeasurable. Michael Jackson who I'm personally not a fan of is in the same boat. He broke new ground, and had talent. Just not the type of talent that pleases my ears.

    Great post.

I realize that Bob Dylan is immensely talented, at least on some level (more songwriting than, say, singing). His music doesn't do much for me, but I would not call him overrated. Obviously many many people are touched by his genius; who am I to put him and them down by calling the man "overrated?"

Touche sir! I think my hate for the Beatles clouds my brain sometimes. Most overrated artist in my opinion? I'd probably have to say Green Day.

I think any of these people deserve credit in their own way because they're writing, singing, putting on shows, doing whatever they do. They're putting it out there. However, all these bands and singer/songwriters all have some sort of fan base that will fight you to the end that that specific act is talented/not overrated or whatever else you may have against them. So I kind of view it as the same thing. I can tell somebody that I don't like their band because XYZ and they may argue it. I can also tell someone that I think they're band is overrated and don't have as much talent as they get credit for, and they can argue it for the same exact reasons. I wouldn't call my list overrated then. I wouldn't call anybody in this thread overrated because they all have talent in their own ways or they wouldn't be successful. It should just be an artists you don't care for thread.
  • I was going to say Nirvana but to me the one truly "overrated" band by definition is Radiohead. All of you guys are just naming popular bands that most people like, which in no way makes them overrated. Popular opinion has never been a measuring stick of talent or the critical praise they receive.

There is only one band that could make an album of each member taking a dump on a microphone or whistling game show theme songs and it be declared a revolutionary piece of brilliant "art" ( ), and that band is Radiohead. Now for the record I do enjoy me some Radiohead, but I have NEVER seen a band so irresponsibly praised for mediocrity before. U2 have gotten bashed in the last 10-20 years for various things and so have many others that have been mentioned here. But not Radiohead. They can't be touched for some reason (and please spare me the "because they ARE perfect BS  ).
  • I've gotta agree with what some others have said, I don't think the term 'overrated' really carries much merit. For example, I've noticed quite a few people saying they think Lady Gaga is overrated, and whilst I can't say her music does a whole lot for me, I think she is insanely talented. She's got a great voice for a start - I saw her on a chat show the other day and she sat and played the piano (very well) and gave an incredible vocal performance. She also writes her own stuff, she plays instruments, she sings live, she designs her stage shows her self - she is ambition personified. And even though on the surface she might be deemed as comparable with someone like Britney Spears, she quite clearly has a hell of a lot more talent and therefore deserves credit for that.
