hopefully, the Gwen Stefani disaster will deter them from this and just put those two "guest songs" after Rambler and keep MT out there for Sway/Knocking/Street Fighting Man/Love In Vain/etc.

The thought of them playing Street Fighting Man like on "Get Yer Ya Ya's Out", Keith in Open G Capo IV, Taylor in standard playing those beautiful lines, gives me a chub.

Stones on cover of Rolling Stone this month...

    mag_zps1829aaff.jpg?t=1367892423

Also a story on the Rolling Stone website saying some more albums might get a Deluxe Edition treatment, I would imagine the debut album will next year when it turns 50. It also said there is going to be a CD/Vinyl/DVD box set of the Hampton '81 show.

Some of us may or may not already have that show on DVD...ahem-exuseme-ahem...

I've got a few things going on at work that really suck and are beyond my control...and May 31 is my light at the end of the tunnel right now. Fuck Wrigley (I'll be there too). I can't wait to see the Stones...for a lot of reasons. :)

I have a copy too, but the picture/audio isn't great, looks like somebody recorded the PPV special on their VCR.

Word is there will be a straight DVD/CD release of Hampton like Checkerboard and Texas '78. I really didn't want a box, and depending on the price I hadn't decided whether or not to bother with it. But the small package I'd get.

It's All Over Now had me the most excited, it's one of my favorite Stones songs (it's a cover, I don't mean they wrote it) to play on guitar, but I'm curious as to how it would sound live, especially these days. I doubt Keith could still play his fingerpicking part, which is really the glue of the song.

As far as covers go, It's All Over Now and That's How Strong My Love Is would be the top two on my wishlist if I were to be at one of the shows.

Katy Perry is tonight's guest. This shit has got to stop. I'm really starting to get embarrassed for them. Mick should not be allowed to choose guests anymore (Tom was Keith's guest), especially when he has the only guest he needs in Mick Taylor.

    Katy Perry? Really?

EMBARRASSING is right. But who knows, MAYBE she'll do a good job? Even if she does, it's still embarrassing.

I agree that this DOG & PONY SHOW, AKA GUEST, or as you say:SHIT> has got to stop & MORE Mick Taylor would be a hell of alot better.

I hope she will surprise me too, Lady Gaga did, because I hate to see the Stones go out like this. I saw her perform on SNL, she BOMBED terribly, worst vocal performance since Ashlee ;)

Of course nobody remembered it because she was in a sketch focusing on her cleavage, and I think her cleavage is more responsible for her career than talent. Every time I've heard Katy Perry brought up, it's never been about music. It's her tits, Russell Brandt, or her outfit.

I miss the good old days of Gwen Stefani.

  • Was at the Vegas show. Awesome. The band was having a lot of fun. As the show progressed Mick's voice got better and better.

I actually didn't mind Katy perry. Just a fun tune for the band as they tour in their 50th year.

Nobody can convince me the Stones aren't the greatest band ever.

How was Taylor on Satisfaction? I've only seen the San Jose video, and the quality wasn't the best, but it sounded great. The arrangement sounds a lot better than the one they've been doing for a while, and Taylor makes it better.

Taylor was good. Keith missed on a few classic solos. Not super clean. Regardless they were great. Mick might be the best front man ever. 70 years old and he still rocks it.

Yeah, he really amazes me. My dad is 70, which always cracks me up when I think about it. What's even more amazing is that before the show even starts, Mick has been backstage doing sprints to warm up for like 20 minutes, then he comes out and does all that running around and dancing. I don't know if I could do that, and I'm only 32. The 20 minutes of sprints would be enough to couch me.

You should definitely check them out on this tour; I have serious doubts that they'll tour again. I was at the show in Vegas last night and it was amazing. My only complaint is I wish they would play more deep cuts and get rid of some of the radio hits (start me up, brown sugar, miss you). Despite this minor complaint, the shows are amazing. If anyone has a chance to see them, you should see them.

What songs do you want them to play?

I'd love to see them dig deep and bust out something like:

    Jigsaw Puzzle
    Dance Little Sister
    Luxury
    Jiving Sister Fanny
    Hand Of Fate
    Claudine

As well as some well known songs they just don't play much. Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Sway, Rocks Off, Monkey Man, Hang Fire, Play With Fire, etc. Also anything from Bridges To Babylon is cool with me.

I was really hoping we would get rocks off or sway last night because they were on the fan vote-in. In addition to your suggestions, I would love it if they would add stuff like torn and frayed, sweet virginia, winter, star star, loving cup, waiting on a friend, you got the silver, moonlight mile, little T&A, shine a light, time waits for noone, and/or Ruby Tuesday to the setlist rotation. I really liked the some girls and exile reissues, it would be neat to occasionally play one of the "new" some girls/exile songs (plundered my soul or don't be a stranger both come to mind) instead of the two new Grrrrr songs.

The stones have created so much great music, it's impossible for Mick and Keith to have a setlist that makes everyone happy. I would love it if they dig a little deeper, but 75% of the people who are at their shows don't know half the songs you and I mentioned. That said, I've seen them twice on this tour and both shows were amazing. They are playing at an unprecedented level and I would be willing to bet it is their last tour.

Yeah, I know they can't do all deep cut setlists. I understand the reality of concerts, I've been a casual fan going to plenty of shows myself and not wanting to hear the b-sides or whatever. Over on the Stones boards people talk all day about dropping the "warhorses". For the prices people are paying to see the Stones, they better fucking play Satisfaction, Jumpin' Jack Flash, etc. I just meant those are some songs I'd like to see thrown in those wild card spots in the setlist.

I'm always game for Star Star, but I think it may be a little "obscene" for a modern Stones show. They played it a few times in '03 and dropped it. I got to see it in '97 as the "Web Choice" song for the show, and I'm surprised they played it even then, or at any post-82 show. I was even a little surprised when they played Little T&A when I saw them in '06. There were quite a few young ones in the audience with their parents, a lot of conservative looking folks, and stuff like that. I know the song isn't as bad as Star Star, but I still felt weird singing along about "tits and ass" with little kids around. I couldn't see Mick dropping the F bomb over and over and singing about feminine hygiene with pre-teens in the audience. Stones concerts are more family friendly affairs these days.

Their best album (well.. maybe Tattoo You?).

Gimme Shelter was out of this world in Vegas.

Monkey Man seems to be a forgotten hit.

Somebody over on IORR just turned me onto the "Philadelphia Special '72" bootleg, some of which is on the Unreleased Decca Live Album, but the whole thing is really good. The version of Gimme Shelter on there is probably one of the best versions, rivaled only by the version from Brussels '73 (the first show, not the official bootleg, the unofficial one).

Taylor's guitar work is unreal here. So is Keith's rhythm playing. The whole thing is unreal.
