Eat it Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones are about to turn 50. It would seem they have something up their sleeve. They are getting together this month for jam sessions, possibly for a 50th anniversary tour, maybe a new album, maybe both, who knows. The only thing they're really discussing is the re-issue of Some Girls and the upcoming "Some Girls Live In Texas '78" DVD.
Mick Jagger says there might be a 50th Anniversary tour, but nothing is final, and they don't really know where to start counting from. The first Stones show (as the "Rollin' Stones" without Bill Wyman or Charlie Watts) was in 1962. But the first classic Stones lineup (Jagger, Richards, Jones, Wyman, Watts) did not come into existence until 1963, as well as their first single. So is 1962 the start date or '63? Either way I'm hoping to see a tour and a nice celebration for 50 years of rocking.
By the way, there has been nothing about calling it RS50, I was just dorking around about that.

Not for Pearl Jam
Yeah, when I saw them in '97 it was probably the greatest concert I've ever seen. It didn't matter that they were old, they were giving it their all and making more of an effort than many bands I have seen that were young.
isnt PJ dated from when they formed? if not, why not?

Well, they formed in '90, but the 20th Anniversary festivities have been in 2011. So I was assuming they dated themselves from the release of the first album in '91. Or maybe when they changed their name to Pearl Jam (I think it was early '91) even though they had been playing as a band under a different name. First show was October '90 though.
oh yeah thats not confusing.

I think says they've decided 2012 will be the 50th anniversary, and that there's definitely something in the works. I hope they really raid the vault. There are some really great bootlegs of soundboard recordings (so we know they were recording) of shows that if cleaned up would make great vault releases. I would love to see the complete El Mocambo show in Toronto (a few tracks were on Love You Live) released, maybe a complete show from their Australia '73 tour (the Back Strap Jacket bootleg is great) or a compilation of performances from them. Maybe even do something with Brussels Affair (a live album that was shelved and only exists in mediocre bootleg form) as it is arguably the most popular bootleg.
They have so much stuff they can do. But of course a tour is what I want the most, but from the sound of things that's going to happen anyway.
the stones haven't done anything worth a damn since sticky fingers
i'm glad they made it 50 years
mick was like 18 or 19 when they started?
PJ members were 26 to 28 when they started
when PJ turns 50 the band members will be pushing 80
of course i'll be dead by then

You don't like Exile On Main Street? And while not my favorites, Some Girls and Tattoo You are often considered great albums, making Rolling Stone Magazine's greatest albums of all-time list. I really like Voodoo Lounge too, and I guess some others did as it won the Grammy for best rock album. And Stripped is a great live album. That's just my opinion though.
But just as some people say the RS haven't done anything worth a damn in decades, there are many people who say Pearl Jam hasn't done anything worth a damn in 15 years. I disagree with that as well.
Now that's freaking funny.......

There are going to be more live albums released. It says more to come, and it's part of a "Bootleg Series" they are starting with Rolling Stones exclusives.

Gonna get this over the weekend. Very excited for this. Also Goat's Head Soup is perhaps their most underrated album ever.
I'm kind of torn on Goats Head Soup. It has some really great songs, like Angie, Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker), Star Star, 100 Years Ago, Silver Train etc. But it doesn't really work as an album for me. It's kind of all over the place, which can be good, but it just seems like a collection of songs instead of an album. Especially coming after Exile which seemed so cohesive.
I especially hate the way the 2009 remaster was treated. I don't really know who is to blame, but Star Star is really screwed up, and it's my favorite track on the album. When it first came out the "I bet you keep your pussy clean" line was edited terribly to where it sounded like the album was skipping. The official story was that they accidentally used the U.S. radio version (how did they not catch that in the re-mastering process if ANYBODY was paying attention?) but was "fixed" in later runs of the CD. I got a version that doesn't have that edit, but now near the end of the song for the line that says "Yeah, I'm makin' bets that you gonna get John Wayne before he dies" is edited. The levels on the guitars suddenly get very loud and it drowns out the line. So it is still edited. I don't know if they've fixed that now also, but it seems very intentional. If it wasn't edited in '73, or for the CD release in '94, why on Earth would it be edited in 2009?
Interesting, I did not know that. Gotta listen to the remaster again. Will you be getting the Some Girls reissue? The most recent remaster sounded good enough that I'm not sure how much more the sound can be improved. But I hope it's worth it considering those extra outtake tracks.
I ordered the numbered CD case with the guitar picks, keychain, buttons, and of course both discs.

Better than Ladies & Gentleman...?
I wouldn't go that far. Taylor's guitar playing on "Ladies & Gentlemen" is mind-blowing. And being a way bigger fan of Exile than Some Girls, I prefer a show from the Exile era than from '78. So musically I don't like it as much, but just from a film aspect it might edge L&G out. Comparing the two is like apples and oranges though, as they are such different periods in their history, from tours supporting such different albums.
Same goes for El Mocambo 1977. We know they recorded that whole show, and the product was good because some of the tracks made it on "Love You Live" and the opening band was April Wine who used the Stones mobile recording studio to release their opening set as their "Live At El Mocambo" album.
I would love both of those shows. There is also rumor that one of the shows is a Detroit show, either '69 or '78, but they weren't sure. I'm not sure where this information is coming from, the person was being pretty cryptic and might be full of it. I would imagine it would be the '69 show though, since they just released a show from the '78 tour on CD/DVD.
Edit: Of course Mick couldn't be outdone by Keith, so now he put one up.

This is the infamous concert where the "crazed fan" ran on stage during Satisfaction and Keith hit him with his guitar. So when the guitar goes all crazy and there's feedback, it's not a mistake, it's just Keith wielding his guitar like a club.

Don't worry, Keith bailed the guy out of jail.
