The fact that this is as big a deal as it is is funny. It was words and an analogy. Pretty stupid choice but still just some words.

I mean, it's not like he put the presidents head on a stick and called him a murderer and a liar.
    ...
I agree with you. It is laughable that people take shit so seriously just because it comes from a celebrity.
it is lame that people are upset with Hank Williams, Jr. (although that's not so much the case... more are upset with ESPN than Williams), just as it was lame for people to ban the Dixie Chicks... people to get up in arms over remarks made by Roseanne Barr... or idiots to get pissed off because Eddie Vedder 'impaled' Bush's head on a stick.
    Seriously... fuck those lame people.

I think it's ok if people that disagree get upset....I just wonder why it always has to come down to bannings and firings. That is stupid.

betcha President Obama even likes it :D

in fact it would be a way cool President to stand up for him and say
    hey man no hard feelings...
you are in the Great USA and have a right to your opinion and I really like your song
you good ole country boy you :D

Like that would ever happen in either party... we've lost the real joes long time ago...
we are at war with our own

This isn't really a free-speech issue. He is not facing any sort of government prosecution.

He made a comment that was very insensitive to many people. He has the right to his opinion, but others have the right to take actions towards him based on his opinion.

yes my statement says I get all that but still think his song should play

for me free speech goes way past the government .. it is a lifestyle and the basic right to speak

as some have said here his words were an analogy,
really blown out of proportion, no surprise there it is what people do best.

Comparing someone to Hitler is inexcusable.

If your employee made a insensitive comment to one of your customers, would you feel the same way?

That's all fine and dandy... but it not up to you whether ESPN plays his song or not... ESPN gets to make the call on that one.
    ...
Me? Personally?... I don't give a shit because I will watch the game if i feel the game is worth watching, not all that other crap ESPN tosses in (including the crappy intro).

I didn't hear him compare him to Hitler he compared the relationships of two men to two men
playing golf. He didn't say Obama was Hitler-like at all.

BUT using the H word is very unwise as we see... I do not condone that it is a sensitive
    situation.

As I said before the most important message he had was he sees them, those in power,
as the enemy ... this idea is taking hold in our country.

    the employee thing ...
no one answered my questions before
does he work at ESPN ?
does he have a job title or are they just using his song?

He doesn't seem like a commentator type :?

If it is just song I sure don't think that is an employee imo

of course totally agree with you
I was just stating my opinion, like you...
I didn't think they would use the song for Pandora ;) thats a joke

is he an employee or are they just using his song? this is a crucial part of the story for me

Think of it as a contractor... like the people who install carpeting.
If the carpet installers said stuff that personally pissed you off... would you get rid of them?
Same thing. The intro is a contracted spot that he gets paid for. The people at ESPN get to decide whether or not to use the intro (and pay him for it)... or not.

I think Fox should welcome everyone on their station to air their views on Obama...

How many people would still have their jobs after they voice their true opinions on air? Ya gotta wonder...

FOX network... I'm think is pretty balanced.
FOX News... not so much. I imagine FOX News is like the Scientology of Newsrooms.

I really don't think the government cares one way or the other. Again, nothing to do with the government... not a First amendment issue... everything to do with ESPN (by the way, ESPN is not the government... they are a broadcast network that mainly focuses on sports, not politics)... and sponsors who pay ESPN.
    ...
Now... if he was living in Yemen, preaching the destruction of America... then, the government might have a Hell Fire missile with his name on it.

    maybe

    speaking of which ...
that new show Person of Interest is kind of cool...

about the huge computer that was invented to find terrorists
and what they plan to do before it happens
how everyone, every email, every move is recorded, processed to find future danger

but the inventor decides to stop future personal crime and death with the info

with an awesomely strong powerful guy as the crime stopper ... I likeee :D

    Fucking idiot...

also, i'm pretty sure republicans would be up in arms if this was a republican president ...

    What?? :?

Do you know how many times people compared Bush to Hitler? ON THIS FORUM?

    just an example...

So, you have proven the point... since Republicans were upset by people calling Bush, 'Hitler'... and not so much when people call Obama, 'Hitler'... the disgust all depends on which party you choose.

Now, you can carry on your debate on The Porch about which photo of Eddie is the hottest.

I'm guessing... probably NOT. I think that the government is more concerned with the names of the people found in notebooks and computers during the raid of the Bin Laden compound to worry about some dumb fuck hillbilly singer who doesn't like the President.
Now... if the name 'Hank Williams, Jr' appears in the Bin Laden notebook under the heading, 'Cell Leaders of Units To Blow Up The Super Bowl'... then, yeah... probably on a list.

i read today he got fired from mnf...

it is good. it is time for a new theme song.

maybe something with a little rock n' roll or maybe even some rap.

rap lends itself nicely to the concept of a new game featuring 2 different teams for 17 weeks. plus you can throw in some trash talking as well...

i am not a huge fan of rap, but i admire the creativity of a lot of the mcs..
