Big deal, someone made comments about the president. Iv heard worse. I say worse.I'll be back0

i would hope that he would be railroaded like the dixie chicks were, but i have a feeling him losing this job would hurt him pretty bad, because that monday night football jingle was the ONLY thing keeping him somewhat marginally relevant..."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

Freedom of Speech doesn't mean it can't have consequences, but he is free to continue to say whatever he wants.

If you say someone who is not Hitler is Hitler, you're an idiot.
And gimme, interesting comparison to the Dixie Chicks, though I think that had more to do with them being female than what they said (unfortunately).Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. The comparison is pretty much drawn down political (party) lines.
Example, if the Dixie Chicks (let's pretend that none of that 2003 shit actually happened) were in Europe and said they were ashamed of President Obama... do you believe there would be a different response to their message?
I'm guessing... kind of.
....
Other side... let's say, in 2003, if Hank Williams, Jr. said former President G.W. Bush was like Hitler and Bush and Cheney were the Three Stooges (I know... one plus one equals three in hillbilly math)... would the response be that same?
I'm guessing... kind of different.
...
P.S. During the Bush/Cheney term... I used to say that anyone that compared Bush or Saddam Hussein to Hitler... which both sides were doing on a regular basis... it was more of an insult to Hitler.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

I don't see how this was a loss of freedom off speech....he said what he had to say and how he felt about the president and vice president. However there's consequences for those words of freedom and his consequence was that he loss his MNF jingle gig. I don't care if he's not a politician ESPN has that right to say this we cannot allow. I disagreed back in 2005 when some had images of Bush during protest marches dressed up as Hitler.....even in that instance it's a protest march compared to a nationally televised network program from a man who appeared to not be fully awake, as yet.

is this more your character shining through?
Of course I defend Diane it is obvious to me she was having a extreme reaction to an abscess that spread to her brain ... not what the majority feels, but no matter it is what I believe.
She is in my prayers everyday, I pray to God her name is cleared for her small son's sake.
I defend the right to freedom of speech. I don't have to agree with it
but defend the right to say it.
And yes as I said in my original post I get consequences, of course.
Do I think the song should still play, yes I do.
I also see the hypocrisy when so many show up assuming character flaws,
degrading, insulting, someone who did the same.
This must be an eye for an eye then ... because so many behave exactly like
what they are complaining about.
Your post is off topic, and you are talking about me. Please do not do that ...

Agreed. We should be as accepting as everyone was towards the Dixie Chicks, right?

your post seems to be directed at Republicans saying that they are not as cool with insult

His opinion of calling him the enemy fell just short of calling him a terrorist...I gather he didn't want to go that far on national tv and even the sanctity of the Fox Network. You are an Independent trust is dying with both parties however one feels more comfortable when your party is in power and this wouldn't be said if that was the case.
There are times you speak of respect and i saw none in Jr's opinion on network tv. Yes he can say what he wants and i don't care what the rest of the country thinks or feels he paid the price for that but say that crap in private there's no excuse for it. Many times in the military I came across superior officers who I couldn't give two shits about but as an officer candidate I had to show respect even if I thought and felt he or she was a piece of shit. He spoke of none of that and no passion or disappointment allows one to freely spout off like that on network tv or you will get canned.
If Eddie Vedder, Geddy Lee or Michael Franti said such nonsense and I'm a fan of ALL of them I would be just as pissed for saying such words on national tv. I didn't vote the President the first time around but I WILL make sure this next time around he'll get my vote....none of these people have been in his shoes these last few years and had to deal with the problems of this country....I certainly have my disappointments (many of them) with the President but at the same time I'll show him a tad bit of respect even IF I disagreed with him.

I do not think in my opinion terrorist was even unintentionally a message.
He was comparing the relationship between the two playing golf
and how he perceived that to appear to the nation in his opinion.
But as his emotions... fear disappoint grows he loses control and speaks
of seeing them as the enemy.
This funny to me cause that is what I see here in the forum between
the reds and blues... enemies
More irony for me I guess, coming from an independent point of view.
I won't approach Ed's past words about those in power and who may have been pissed.
One would think our favorite entertainers would be at the least slightly forgiven
as they are loved for their creativity not political opinion.
Here is my stance, I am a fan of Old Hank Jr.
I believe in respect for others yes
for me to care about others ...
to love them I do not have to agree with what they do or say, I need to try to understand
where it is coming from.
In his case, in my opinion it was fear, disappointment, distrust hopefully not to become hate
that lead to his words.
There is too much hate already.0 -

In many references to the word enemy the word terrorist is brought into play and he in my opinion fell short of that. Unless he hasn't taken a vacation in the pass year he shouldn't care what or whom the President decides to play golf with the job of presidency is tough enough already everyone needs a break.
I've had disagreements with friends...I haven't had one with Michael Franti but I'm sure that day may come.I've had disagreements with you such as in the domestic violence scenerio....friends have their disagreements all the time that's what should build and makes friendship better over time.
Hank Jr can have all the fear, disappointment, distrust he wants things I feel and have just the same...just not on network tv or he'll suffer the consequences and in this case he certainly did. No hate intended.

He didn't care whom he played golf with... he was comparing the unlikely partnership
in my take.
No argument with consequences, as I've said, still think the song should play on.
Disagreement is different than attack though ... I see a lot of attacking.0 -
i don't believe that hank williams jr is conherent enough to provide such a nuanced excuse or clarification of his remarks that pandora was able to do so eloquently. the man can speak for and defend himself. he does not need any of us to make excuses for him or speak for him.
flat out, he called the president his enemy. there is only one way that you can interpret that. he has to deal with the consequences and repercussions of his own words."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
