Before you go and completely trash Dave based on that anecdote, maybe you should consider that at that point his and Eddie's relationship was completely broken. Sure, he behaved like an ass... but when you're already on the wrong side of the undisputed band leader, you don't really want to make things even worse.

Dave was one of the five who contributed to songs on both VS. and Vitalogy, or he would not be in the credits.

I agree with your points, but this one, I believe the reason he's in the credits is because at the time the band agreed, no matter who wrote the song, the whole band got credit. kinda like Lennon and McCartney.

    I stand by it.

When the Beatles wrote tunes, when they wrote their songs, the actual folks who were responsible for writing all aspects of writing the songs were credited; you don't see Ringo's name on too many of the song credits from the group, also George Harrison would write songs as well. Composers of the music are fairly credited in all of VS. and most of Vitalogy as well.

    See my examples below.

Read the book Five Against One by Kim Neely. Eddie and the guys (especially Eddie) don't have clean hands here. I know many folks on here are in a state of denial about what went really down during the VS. tour which lead to Dave's termination.

This is true, to an extent.

The credits on Vs and Vitalogy ARE a little disingenuous - Stone wrote the music to (for example) Daughter and Spin the Black Circle and Mike's talked of coming up with most of Glorified G and parts of Tremor Christ as well. The five-way credits were a symbolic choice to give an impression of band solidarity at the time, though it's also true that they were writing collaboratively at the same time.

That said, Dave wrote the majority of the music to Go - one of the band's most well-loved songs. While he might not have contributed to every one of those songs in that period on a compositional level, he certainly brought his own unique feel to everything the band was doing at the time.

Probably not, but I can't agree with you.

That song never got better than in 2000 for me.

Loved it in 2000, got a little burnt out on it in the mid-2000's, and now it's awesome again.

  • I can't really speak on the book or the movie, I haven't checked out either yet. However, I kind of love the Foo Fighters documentary that came out this year because they took some time to discuss this issue. They talked about their original drummer and had an interview with him as well as their revolving door of guitarists. As a fan, it was nice to hear both sides on this topic.

True, and frankly, Grohl comes off kinda douchey about firing people.

Wait, what? I thought this was like "Where's Waldo," and I've been hunting on every page trying to find the hidden Dave A.

Are you telling me he's actually not there?!?

There's so much name-calling in this thread and speculation and imagination about people's feelings, words and actions that it's taken a turn to the dark side and is done. People do not need to be so ugly to each other and about people they don't know.
