    10 inches of rain? That's a lot.

What about Hurricane Bob in 1991?

You were younger for Hurricane Bob than I was when Hurricane Gloria came.
Hurricane Bob was a pussy. I remember that one like it was yesterday. My bro is your age. We boarded up windows, prepared for the worst and it ended up being nothing more than a windy T-storm. Im hoping this weekend is the same.

Neilybabes - are they letting anyone into the Carolinas?? I know they arent letting people to the outerbanks, but wasnt sure about the mainlands... Im still trying to convince my mom to postpone her trip for a day...at least. She's still, at this point, determined to drive down on Saturday and stay overnight in SC. Im slightly concerned to say the least.

gotta be honest...im so concerned with everything in nyc and long island, i have no idea whats going on in the carolina's

why would she make that trip now?

My mom is in Greenville, NC now and studies Geography and natural hazards for a living. She is inland and not really sure how bad they are going to get it. The coast is going to get hit hard and she will have a bad storm, but not sure how bad. No real answers yet.

Trying to convince my ex not to take a trip with my two oldeset sons to east side of Cheasapeake Bay today. They have issued evacuation orders for the shore points, on the opposite side of the peninsula from where they would be going.

And trying to figure out how to get my girlfriend's mother from Connecticut to here before the storm hits. She was supposed to go pick her up Sunday night and come back Monday, but that is not happening.

I parsed this from a poorly written philly.com article.
Irene, with 110 m.p.h winds, was still off the coast of Florida this morning, but hurricane warnings were in effect for all of the Atlantic Seaboard from North Carolina through New Jersey...

The warning, which means that heavy rain and hurricane-force winds of 75 m.p.h. or more are expected, applies not just to all of South Jersey and Delaware, but to Philadelphia and Delaware County as well, according to the National Weather Service.

A less dire but still scary tropical storm warning is in effect for Chester, Montgomery, Bucks and Mercer Counties, according to the National Weather Service.

We have trees fall all over the place from 20mph winds.

I think it's a little early for all that. There are many tracks this could take.

I'm in northcentral NC and there is a briefing on TV now. I was just at Cape Hatteras last month, and it is not looking good. I'm scared for the coast; the track appears to be hitting it and going right over it. I am supposed to work my part-time job tomorrow night at a teeny tiny convenience store.. my boss is of the belief that a store closes for nothing. My boyfriend works for Pike Electric, and he will probably be called to go there Saturday or Sunday. I am thankful that it is a 2.

Maybe it's a "watch." Like I said, the article was poorly written.

Yeah, I would imagine it's probably a watch. Wait, something was poorly written on Philly.com? Shocking.

That is absurd then. We are 48 hours away and the thing hasn't even made landfall yet. It could go in so many different directions.

but it's so wide that even if it heads to 50 miles out to sea it's going to impact as far as the city of philadelphia. it's just a massive storm.

Oh no doubt, it's a huge storm and is going to be destructive no matter what, I just think it is very early to issue a warning in this area. We'll see though. There will definitely be flooding, especially with the rain the past week or so.
