so i just spoke to my mother on Long Island to make sure she was prepared for the next few days and apparantly i was conceived after hurricane Gloria in sptember of '85..... she said "there was nothing else to do"
so i'm expecting a baby boom in the tri-state area about 9 months from now :P
that's what they expected after the huge blackout 8 years ago! Didn't hear too much about it 9 months later.... :think:
This just about happens after every major event in a large metroplitan city. Same thing happened in the the greater blackout in the summer of 1977 which I was in the middle of in Brooklyn. Along with the lovemaking people looted the hell out of the city....I excluded myself from ALL of that of course.

True but that's just it's wind speed. Here on the east coast most of the damage will be done by the storm surge and flooding to low places such as NYC. A city that's let's say not as prepared or hurricane ready as we might be here in South Florida.
I hope everyone is ready like my sister in NJ....she should come down here to get away....:D Usually everyone else is focused on our demise with storms down here.

Only? Philly, New York, Boston are not towns used to or ready for a major hurricane. with the winds and amount of major water ways surrounding these areas the water surge could have disasterous results. i live about 70 miles from the coast and my area has been issued a hurricane warning. they are talking one of the 3 biggest and most damaging storms EVER in the eastern United States. We are looking at days and possibly weeks without power and communications should this hit as bad as they are saying. over 55 MILLION people are going to be affected by this storm. 55 MILLION. think about that number.

It could intesify in the warm Gulf Stream waters before it hits North Carolina's Outer Banks late tonight. I have a cousin right in it's path in Wilmington NC who is only 2 miles from the ocean. Now She has to get out of there for sure. :shock:

will strenghten back to a cat 3 over the warm waters around the North Carolina area then back down to a 2. will be a cat 2 through new jersey up into the new york area. hasn't been a storm this strong since like the 1930s or something in the philly/new york area. as i say above i live about 70 miles inland from the jersey coast and we have been issued a hurricane warning so you are talking 75 mph winds in the suburbs of philly. that's crazy.
I remember when i was a youngin hurricane hugo blasted ashore the eye 30 miles from our home. That was scary. That was a BIG storm and Powerful storm. [end old man talk\]

My mom is in Greenville, NC now and studies Geography and natural hazards for a living. She is inland and not really sure how bad they are going to get it. The coast is going to get hit hard and she will have a bad storm, but not sure how bad. No real answers yet.
Trying to convince my ex not to take a trip with my two oldeset sons to east side of Cheasapeake Bay today. They have issued evacuation orders for the shore points, on the opposite side of the peninsula from where they would be going.
And trying to figure out how to get my girlfriend's mother from Connecticut to here before the storm hits. She was supposed to go pick her up Sunday night and come back Monday, but that is not happening.

The warning, which means that heavy rain and hurricane-force winds of 75 m.p.h. or more are expected, applies not just to all of South Jersey and Delaware, but to Philadelphia and Delaware County as well, according to the National Weather Service.
A less dire but still scary tropical storm warning is in effect for Chester, Montgomery, Bucks and Mercer Counties, according to the National Weather Service.

I'm in northcentral NC and there is a briefing on TV now. I was just at Cape Hatteras last month, and it is not looking good. I'm scared for the coast; the track appears to be hitting it and going right over it. I am supposed to work my part-time job tomorrow night at a teeny tiny convenience store.. my boss is of the belief that a store closes for nothing. :roll: My boyfriend works for Pike Electric, and he will probably be called to go there Saturday or Sunday. I am thankful that it is a 2.

My mom is in Greenville, NC now and studies Geography and natural hazards for a living. She is inland and not really sure how bad they are going to get it. The coast is going to get hit hard and she will have a bad storm, but not sure how bad. No real answers yet.
And trying to figure out how to get my girlfriend's mother from Connecticut to here before the storm hits. She was supposed to go pick her up Sunday night and come back Monday, but that is not happening.
