There was a lot of hate for Load, but I went to some shows on that tour and had a blast.
I didn't start hating them until Napster and St. Anger0 -

As for PJ's "integrity," go read Eddie's 1995 Spin Magazine interview where he shits on the Spin Doctors for having their tour sponsored by a jeans company (Vans I think?), yet the 2008 PJ tour had a gigantic Verizon screen over the stage that we can all text our messages to.
and the 2009 album was exclusive to Target. In that same 1995 interview, he laments classic rock bands charging $50 a ticket. He couldn't fathom playing for a crowd that could only afford such expensive tickets. Well with inflation, $50 then is $84 now, yet tickets to the Gigaton tour cost like $120.
So Metallica were dicks in 2000 with the Napster stuff, but have at least tried to make up for it. Eddie sat on his high horse in '95 looking down his nose at people trying to make money (people that didn't have Ten/Vs/Vitalogy flying off the shelves) and when his album sales began drying up, here come the sponsorships. Some integrity.

And I think you're forgetting about the Metallica manager that bought back all the good seats on the last tour and resold them on secondary markets because they decided the prices were too low. https://www.digitalmusicnews.com/2019/07/19/live-nation-scalper-metallica-recorded/ Not exactly redemption.0 -

As for them giving me a CD cause it's worthless, you're right that it's worthless. I was talking about the gesture of it (free mp3 of the show too). Something free, which you'll never get from PJ. As for the worth of a CD, Tom Morello said in the latter days of Audioslave that he loved that illegal downloading killed the record companies. I'm paraphrasing (the numbers aren't exact), but he said it cost like 2 dollars to manufacture a CD, then the record company sells it for like $15, and the band only gets like $3. Again, these numbers aren't exact but it's something like that. So he liked them getting screwed. But he lamented how many artists got screwed in those days from not selling records. You can make more money off a #1 single in 1994 than you can a string of #1 albums in the 2000's.2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea. Doubt PJ were happy seeing their sales plummet and people stealing the music."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
Why is everyone so mad at an artist/group being mad their music was being stolen? So they didn't want to give away stuff they(with their label) spent millions producing/distributing makes them bad? This wasn't like dubbing a cassette, not even close, millions of records not being sold, but being obtained illegally, oh sorry "shared". Every artist should have been pissed. Pearl Jam never gave albums away for free, they just didnt care people ripped them off and stole it. Then everyone was like it isnt Napstets fault...they just made a platform, but gun companies just make guns they dont kill people is the same argument.
It is against the law, they didn't like their product being stolen. The mob loved free shit, so it was the bands as bad guys....typical bassakwards thinking.0
