just lose Just Breathe

with all due respect, could we please omit the just breathe interlude on the upcoming tour? I've heard it at the last 6 shows I've been to (including Ed) and enough is enough. spontaneity has always been a PJ hallmark and there was nothing spontaneous about just breathe, night in and night out.

and don't even get me started on jazz odyssey

I couldn't agree more. It has quickly become the 4 minutes of each show that I dread - whether it be a PJ show or Ed solo. It just sucks the life right out of the show.

I like Just Breathe but I do agree it needs to be shuffled around the setlist more.

It's a good song, but yes it does slow down a show sometimes.

Still waiting for a show in or around Atlanta where they actually play it. A lot of albums out since 2003. :P

You poor people up north. Pearl Jam really makes you suffer, don't they? Coming back over and over and over...and playing all these damn SONGS. It must be just TERRIBLE for you to have to suffer through Just Breathe yet AGAIN.

I'm all for no Just Breathe. I'd rather him bring back soon forget instead.

Yeah but still, I'm not saying he should play it every night. But I still think he should play it still.

Yeah but that's an opinion. I like them there. Now sure, he should change them up and do other ones but basically what I'm saying is he shouldn't reture Just Breathe for good!

I don't think they should retire it...but if you are doing a two night show....play it one night and not the other! Just saying. Mix it up. But don't not play it.

Exactly. It's like watching a play or a movie sometimes where you know what's coming.

The last full show I went to was in 2006. Once I started to realize what song they were about to play simply by the gear they were changing out between songs, I knew it was time to take a break from touring.

I like Just Breathe...I've only heard it once...at EdVed's show a couple weeks ago.

I think the best thing about songs they were played to death on radio (Daughter/Betterman) are the tags at the end. It's a nice way to mix it up. I'm not saying they have to do that, but it might be interesting.

I will agree with this. There is only one aspect I'm curious about. I wonder if this song has a private family meaning to FRONTDUDE. If that's the case I guess he will want to play it every gig which is a bit too much.

The difference is that Alive is up-tempo, probably their biggest "hit" song and has more fan participation than any other song.

As for Betterman - although admitedly I have grown sick of it live too, it is arguably one of their biggest hits too and the non 10Cers seems to really love that one live (just like Alive).

I guess I agree with those of you saying that it doesn't need to be permanently put on the shelf, just put in to rotation.

Totally agree. No more just breathe. Don't like the album version because of how Ed changes his voice into a more country tone. The live version is much much better but still annoying if I have to hear it at every show.

Soon Forget would be nice to have back in rotation.

Nice pic imalive. What kind of piece is that?

  • I like the slow down and the inclusion of the strings on both the Backspacer and EV Solo tours.
Hearing Lukin w/strings was fantastic both times I saw it and for personal reasons The End is one of my favorites. If cutting out Just Breathe means I don't hear the other two I would rather they leave it in. (I also am lucky enough to live in a place where they typically play multiple gigs when they tour so I could go to all of them if I wanted to make sure I got a large enough sample size.)

I only complain about Yellow Ledbetter. Never liked the recorded version and certainly cringe everytime I hear the first notes live.

Right now, Alive deserves to be that closing song IMO

Don't get rid of it. Chicks dig it. Also since it comes in at the end of the first encore, it seems it gives the rest of the band more of a break, better to rock out the rest of the show. Finally, its better than The End and definitely Soon Forget (not a big fan).
