    Now, hold on a minute.

I'm a soccer mom. The song I want to hear, every time, is Leash -- followed by Rearviewmirror, of course.

Watch it with those stereotypes, please.

Anyone remember back in the mid-90s when they played the same songs at every show.

Or in 2000 when they played half of their songs at every show.

    I do.

Well, I am very saddened by this thread. My favorite song is Just Breathe :| and I have been crying and deeply hurt by all of the negative comments left about this song. I have the song taped to where it plays over and over again in my truck, house stereo, work stereo and even as a ring tone.. I have banners all over my house that say Just breathe. It helps me relax at the end of the day. I am even trying to teach our neighbors 1 1/2 year old to say just breathe. 8-) . To be quite honest with you people I have been hoping that on Eddie's next album he would release what I think would be a huge hit. "Just Breathe 2" :P :P You know like Mettalica did with the unforgiven 2. I am going to need some time to get over this. By the way if anybody is taking me serious right now then you are as gullible as they come.:lol::lol::lol::lol: On a serious note. Enjoy the song as it may be shuffled on back at any future venues. :D

with all due respect, could we please omit the just breathe interlude on the upcoming tour? I've heard it at the last 6 shows I've been to (including Ed) and enough is enough. spontaneity has always been a PJ hallmark and there was nothing spontaneous about just breathe, night in and night out.

and don't even get me started on jazz odyssey

    Very well put, very respectful.

Doubtful it goes anywhere, my thoughts.

EV gives the group a 2 song (extra break) during a show.

He comes out... Does Just Breath and The End.

He is the only person out and only player.

I appreciate your request and feel the same.

I've never heard it live and would like to hear it. If you don't want to hear songs multiple times, stop going to multiple shows. It really is that simple.

I hate these threads so much. Because they're pretty fucking selfish. That song you just can't stand because your spoiled ass has been to six shows this tour is the one another person is just dying to hear at the one show they can afford to go to.

In conclusion: We should all just shut the hell up and enjoy whatever songs the band feels compelled to play.

How about the entire first encore from last year... The End, lukin with strings, and just breathe. They'll change it up as always. I remember in 09 it seemed like it was always gone and red mosquito. Ben harper ruined one of my favorite songs.... I SAY NO MORE BACKSPACER!!! PERIOD....

Sorry Jammer but I couldnt dis-agree more. I love Backspacer, love Lukin with Strings and The End.
And please dont tell me Ben Harper ruined Indifference! [actually you can say anything you like about these songs, we all can have our favorites] I bought the boot tour sets for 2009 and 2010 and one of the things I look to in each show, Worldwide, was the different take on some of my favorites. I absolutely loved the way Ed and Ben killed it on Indifference over and over. ((Or maybe you were talking about Red Mosquito?))

Either way, I would watch them play the same thing every night if my lazy ass would go to see every show I could. To me, Pearl Jam isnt about being 'cool' and trying to exclude those who arent in the cool club and only wanting to see them sing a song they have never sung live before. For me, going to a PJ show is in large part about feeling the music and the way the crowd is digging the music -- up to and including screaming our lungs out to great music. Check out this you tube at about 2:19 -- this is beautiful.

Don't get rid of it. Chicks dig it. Also since it comes in at the end of the first encore, it seems it gives the rest of the band more of a break, better to rock out the rest of the show. Finally, its better than The End and definitely Soon Forget (not a big fan).

    Norm... dude....

Ah, I know exactly the kind of woman you mean. I don't know too many of them, myself, though. (whew!) But here, amidst the sausage fest that is the message board, I feel the need to defend myself against all the comments about "chick songs" and annoying wives/ girlfriends. My husband comes to the shows at my behest, and I'm pretty sure I could outlast most if not all of you when it comes to going crazy at shows. :D

As for "Just Breathe," I really think of it as an Ed song rather than as a PJ song, which to me means it is better suited to Ed shows. But my (enormous) now twelve-year-old son absolutely loves "Just Breathe," was thrilled to hear it all four nights in Philly, and perks up when he hears it either at PJ or Ed shows. So much for the "chick song" theory; he's a budding musician, and he listens to music very intently, so I tend to trust his taste/ judgement.

I think an earlier poster's comment that the quiet songs give the rest of the band an extended break at the first encore makes a lot of sense. It will be interesting to see if the setlists change for the Canada tour (I would expect Just Breathe, The End, etc. to open the first encore in the S.American shows).

like I said, I think a better approach (if the band needs a break) would be for ed to do parting ways, driftin', soon forget, etc. instead of just breathe. just change it up a little. the anticipation would be great if we knew ed was going to do some acoustic....but didn't know what.
