  • QOTSA is just an OK band when held to the standard of Josh Homme's first band, Kyuss. I know we're all PJ fans here, but Kyuss is the greatest. Go see Kyuss Lives on tour this summer - everybody from the original lineup but Homme, which is OK because he's kind of a douche.

If Josh is such a prick And his music sucks then why did Stone sign him after Josh was done with The Screaming Trees? Stone is partially responsible for QOTSA. Their music is good very good IMO. He's one of hell of a guitar player. I hope Mike joins him on stage for a jam session. I've only seen them live once and it was a killer show. Someone handed him a Twilight book out of the crowd he read part of it on stage. They didn't throw it at him. He thanked the person and started to read it was pretty funny. And he could only ruin the festival if you let him. If you don't like him don't watch their set it's that easy. But you don't know what you will be missing.

If you read my post, I will not be watching their set. Thank you and I do know what I'm missing.

I realize this guy is a former member of Queens of the Stone Age but still "birds of a feather...". Take what happened here and the obscene tirade from the lead singer towards that fan including calling him a faxxot. I just wonder what are these guys doing at PJ20? He definately is homophobic. I personally want nothing to do with these guys and I won't be watching them.

The 3rd post in this thread should be edited (or not even thought). Holy shit. I mean, to even compare Homme getting pissed and yelling at people for throwing shit at him while he's trying to entertain people who paid $$$ to see him - and then also including in that comparison an ex-bandmate who he got rid of years ago - to Hitler and his army???? Wow.

People who throw shit at performers are idiots, and Homme, and Vedder, had/have every right to go off on them, without censorship. Say what the hell they want.....who cares - it's a rock show.

I cannot wait to see QOTSA. They will rock the fucking house down, and they are a GREAT band.

What does "birds of a feather" mean? I am completely lost on this. Phish has a song called "Birds of a feather" and it is one of my fav tunes by them.

I just watched all the vids and I thought it was all a bit much. I agree an artist has a right to say what he wants too on stage, but I thought that dude went over the top. It was a little disturbing and can only imagine that being a show killer.

Birds of a feather, means they are the same bird.

In human terms it could mean "people who are alike". So basically birds of the same type stick together. For example you don't see a robin flying south in the geese V formation.

This. Just sick of having defend every opinion on this board. I'm just glad some of these videos were seen by some members and allowed them to form their own opinions about the man. Just the thought at any given moment some drunk idiot at PJ20 could make a mistake and the great vibe that will be PJ20 could be changed in a heartbeat.

I hope Kat or Sea doesn't mind this post. I think its important for this discussion.

The use of "faggot" has been used for years. It originates as a term for sticks for kindling, but is also a very old slur for gays. Comedians whom I enjoy, like Louis CK and others, use it frequently, and they often put a disclaimer saying it's not meant in a gay context when they use it. I don't think they should use it because of its origins and that it is still used negatively today, but I'm also a proponent of free speech. I don't count it too much against some people who use it, if it is not specified about sexual orientation... but I do personally think the line is too thin on it to use it, but I understand if those who say they don't mean it towards a gay person mean it.

On Louis CK's show "Louie" recently he opened his show with a bunch of comedians taking jabs at each other over poker. One gay comedian describes the origination of "faggot", since at least half of the comedians there use the term frequently. I give credit to Louis CK for giving this such prominence on his show, even though he uses the word.

I don't believe Josh to be homophobic, but I think he should have been a lot more careful with his choice of words. This would not prevent me from seeing them... and I've been known to boycott things that I don't agree with.

Here's his response to the whole incident:

    Member of the Peanut Gallery:

Some journalists & citizens on the internet & are wondering: Q? Am I a homophobe because I included a slang for gay in with other “acceptable” curse words during a verbal lashing I gave a young concertgoer, after being hit by his shoe, during a show the other day? A= Nope. My gay family & friends, as well as myself, KNOW I am not a homophobe. For years now I’ve known gay is not a choice; one’s skin color doesn’t determine one’s intelligence level; & red hair doesn’t mean you’re someone’s stepchild. You see, it’s not the words, it’s their intent. I never said, nor suggested, that being gay is wrong, but apparently, based on your outrage to my flu-infused rant, you do! By that logic… I also told that young whipper snapper I’d have anal sex with him… how can I possibly reconcile these opposing viewpoints? I called him a pussy too. Does it mean I hate our one worlds’ collective vagina? I never have been nor intend to be politically correct. That’s your cross to bear. To me, that PC world would suck more shit than the porta-potty truck at Glastonbury. Homophobic? I’m in Queens of the Stone Age for crissake… You say, “So. Your band name doesn’t prove anything.” Maybe not. But it’s a helluv a lot more definitive than the logic of some watchdog… (sorry canine-American, canine-European, canine-African, canine-Australian & canine-Asian) moralist, keeping score from pure perfectionville? If your glass house is squeegeed that clean & you need to do something, do what the great philosopher Bill Hick’s once suggested: – forgive me-. Or don’t. I’m not asking for either, OK? I think you should let both of your cheeks go loose so the stick will drop out. Either way I expect that you’ll soon find another injustice from your chair, then roll to your bullhorn & point it out to the rest of us… Because you’re so above it all. Or If you’ll allow me to translate a wish of mine into your PC lingo:
Will you please go have, consensual, sex with yourself.
Pretty please with all natural, carbon offset sugar on top.

Again taking it way too far especially with the homosexual comments. The guy is just a loose cannon and we should be mindful of this at PJ20.

I think people should know the reason for kicking them out, instead of just watching the video an forming a one sided view. from the uploader:

"Josh Homme, lead singer of Queens of the Stone Age, got fed up with two drunk fans who wouldn't stop moshing, which was crushing the females toward the front of the stage. He taunts the two dudes while the bouncers are pulling them out. And yes, he warned them 5 minutes earlier, before they performed the previous song. They wouldn't stop, so he finally gave 'em the boot!"

I admit he has a rather careless choice of words, but he was only sticking up for the rest of the fans

Birds of a feather flock together....

To call that fan out, he was damn lucky that kid didn't get hurt by another jag in the audience. Just be a man and let security do their job a-hole

OP, you're either nuts or really funny. Homme is a "loose cannon". I laughed at that one. What do you think he's going to do at PJ20, jump off the stage and try to face punch all of us? Leave it at this: If you don't like him or don't agree with him, don't see him - you've stated that as your intention. Good. Because if you're seats are better than mine for the QOTSA set, that just allows me to sneak up and sit in yours. Please stop being a Josh Homme YouTube internet detective. Please leave the dude alone, please leave us alone with your Homme videos, and please let this "Homme Is A Homophobe" topic die in peace......

Kat should have left it locked.

    I wanna chime in here..

After seeing these clips of QOTSA I also just saw a clip of Dave Grohl in London screaming at a fan and kicking him out for fighting....

It's ok by me if the artist wants to do something about an issue in the crowd. But the manner to which they do it is highly unprofessional in my opinion.

    http://exploremusic.com/news/dave-grohl ... ters-show/

That's the Dave Grohl clip. It's just egotistical in my opinion. Like there's a sense of ownership over the show and the crowd.

Honestly... while some of the idiots in the crowd and people who applaud this... I would prefer that if the band or artist wanted something done... simply stop the music and let security staff do their jobs. If you have to point it out, then do so... but to become agitated and confrontational with fans is just foolish IMO.

Just an FYI... LOVE Foo Fighters... not so much a fan of QOTSA. QOTSA seem overrated... again IMO

As you stated I will not be watching him play and I'm sorry but I will post whatever I can find about him that's negative. Never has such a person with a negative track record played along with Pearl Jam. You always have the right not to open this thread and you always have the right to not respond. Peace. :)

You know, he makes some great points mixed in with a bunch of nonsense and childish gibberish of passing the buck.

All I know is, he is lucky he didn't incite the crowd to hurt that kid, it could have been very ugly. And while what the kid did is inexcusable and he should have been removed, he certainly wouldn't have deserved a crowd ass kicking. As far as the language goes, the fact that he fails to truly understand just how wrong he was proves that he is an egotistical asshole. Sure, people get caught up in the moment and words fly. When cooler heads prevail, those that aren't assholes own up to their mistakes. I'm glad I already don't like their music much, makes it easy for me.
