Saying that others also have stereotypes does not make it right for you to stereotype. That is all I care to write about the subject now that I see you are willing bash Americans based on your knowledge of a few American friends and one movie.

Instead I should get to know every American and then I will be able to have my opinion? Have you read perhaps Benedict Andersen and Imagined Communities?
I am not saying I have the right to stereotype but that it is something inevitable. Read Piaget.

And I never said you could not have an opinion. I am just letting you know that your "facts" are incorrect.

No, instead you should not generalize all Americans into one broad group. You don't need to keep naming authors I should read. I already know what you are talking about and it does not make it right.

what would you have the average person do to stop the US role in the world?
write their congressman... pardon me while I fall down laughing... no sarcasm intended

Stop voting Rebublican or Democrat would be a start in the same way people in the UK should stop voting for Labour or Conservatives. Same politicians that are only interested in money for the top 1% and not your best interest at heart. It won't solve the problems over night by any stretch but I think it's a good start.

Hmm...I'm sure this won't be understood but I feel I need to write it down. I come in peace.

I find all of this cheering around Osama's death quite "funny". You are so happy as if the whole evil on this planet has been forever banished- instead it is your politics who is spreading it. Are you blinded by your internal and international politics and media...or maybe just in denial ?(it is much to handle...)

Without USA there would be no Bin Laden. It is USA who is always financing wars around the world and molding dictators with their double-standards and greed for resources. As long as those puppets play their game they can kill their local people and do what they want, no problems with morals, nothing. Then if they revolt, USA goes and sells weapons and all that is necessary to their enemies. How many wars were there in the name of democracy and peace? It's sad. And then I see people on TV waving American flags and shouting. Really sad. I am of course not supporting terrorism or any violence, but these cheers are like a pervert theater, you are no different then them, full of hate. But their countries are more and more messy, and they've got nothing to lose. The consequence is not just terrorism but the reign of fear and instability everywhere. I think it would be much better if you would just stop interfering. A lot of blame for the status quo is also on the hands of the corporations. Instead of asking why they act the way they do - you throw bombs. This way, nothing is going to change, it is just going to be worse and worse. But you go and wave that American flag, eat a hamburger, drink some Coke, watch some soap opera or royal wedding or what ever keeps you from thinking too much and have a nice day in your marvelous country of freedom and success. Sorry for sarcasm, but I feel like Americans as a nation are really easy to lead and you lack a lot of self-criticism.

    Peace.

Very well said. Bravo. I can't stop laughing reading some of the other posts. Wake up! Peace!

So then just keep voting the corrupt politicians. The reason they can take so many liberties is that they keep getting voted in. I don't know what your political allegiance is but do you believe either of those parties are working in your best interest and not the bankers and themselves etc? Maybe you believe the current system is the best, I don't know. Your free to chose of course.

If you stop voting for them because of X, Y and Z then you force the parties to adapt. Given the fact that world nearly went tits up with the recent financial crisis this point may have carried a bit more weight I would have thought.

did we have a submarine waiting to scoop up the remains below water for more nefarious disposal?

lets fuel the flames of conspiracy :D

I think the law states if no land burial is possible then sea is OK or something like that. Not that they practice burial at sea. No country would take his body so they had no choice to bury him at sea. I guess it also stops his resting place as a shrine.

hey, i'm not saying you're wrong... i'm just saying this country as a whole will never be self-aware enough to see the need for a 3rd party

we all grew up with hollywood movies... theres good guys and bad guys... thats why we can get behind this osama death... good guys win... black and white... throw in candidate number three (who usually tries to walk too fine a line between dem and rep stances and ends up with only an army of hippy college kids) and our formulaic media equation gets thrown off balance

besides, third party candidates end up feeding out of the same trough anyway

back to osama... USA USA USA
