Hail Hail - I think it might be better to leave the Letterman version. Heard that one a lot, maybe a different one? Might fit in better with all the rest SQ- wise
the versions of Habit and In My Tree look good too those two were great ones
I'll have a listen for a "Red Mosquito" we could use - even though it's possibly my least favourite song off the whole album. Something about it- it's like the "Wishlist" of No Code. But maybe listening to it repeatedly will open my eyes (and ears)
No, no Red Mosquito is not No Code's Wishlist !! (ok, it's my least favourite too).
Sorry, wanted to check on Mankind but couldn't, I had to get ready for tonight and now I have to run (though I'm an hour late, so it's not THAT bad).
I'll see where you guys have got to when I'm back and try to contribute some more tonight (if I'm not too drunk, I don't think we really need drunken suggestions, do we ?).
I don't know, that might be interesting

I drank to much, I smoked too much, I ... Shit, I sound like a DMB song now.

.... Are we sure Barcelona's SQ is good at all ? I mean, it's clear and everything, but the volume seems much lower.
Anyway, if I take this one out (for this reason only), I reckon a good alternative could be (apart from Berlin, which always sounds good, apparently) 09/22 TOLEDO, OH. Which is weird, because I reckon that earlier on today I thought this show had a bad SQ. Now that I'm listening on headphones, it seems clearer than Hamburg or Randall's Island.

I like the vocal harmonies at the end of Berlin's Red Mosquito, but it's played way too fast.
So my suggestions would be
Red Mosquito - Hartford
Lukin - Berlin

I was thinking, if we feel there's too much Berlin in there, we can also switch back to E.L.'s Toronto In my tree ?
Not that there's a problem with a lot of Berlin in there of course .
Anyway, thanks Dazzler. I reckon we have a rough draft now, don't we ?
There's just this improv we've got to pick now.
Any idea between Barcelona's instrumental and Charleston's improv w/ vocals ? Totally different stuff. I'm not sure which one (if any) will fit best.

Questions for Improv/Instrumental:
Which one has better SQ?
Which one sounds better with the No Code Collection?
Which one fits the best after "Around the Bend"?

Berlin's SQ is better, so the drum intro sounds nicer and the build up is clearer, although Toronto has more crowd involvement. Could be nice. With that particular song, I'm not so sure. Also, Toronto has a sweet ending I reckon.
I'd stick with Berlin. Haven't listened to it back to back with In my tree, but I reckon it should flow better too (same SQ obviously).

Questions for Improv/Instrumental:
Which one has better SQ?
Which one sounds better with the No Code Collection?
Which one fits the best after "Around the Bend"?
Well, in all fairness, the answer to all three is Charleston's improv. Although I like the instrumental better, I think it'd fit better after Around the Bend, and the SQ might be better, especially at the beginning (the instrumental is off the soundcheck so it's a bit messy). We'll see how it sounds in the rough draft. I'm not thrilled by it at the moment.

I'm afraid we'll end up having to completely rework the bonus section though. I'm so not sure about this. E.L. if you listen to it, let me know, ok?
Okay, i've put the Ten Live bonus tracks aside to give No Code my full attention
I'm listening to it now, I'll come back with any suggestions later
The bonus section - Except Leaving Here, I haven't heard the other improvs. Roadhouse Blues is a great song though, so sounds promising

Cool ! I'm still listening ceaselessly to you know what so I'll wait for your feedback and we'll figure it out from there I guess.
Right listened to it - only once though - so these are just preliminary thoughts and opinions. Very prone to changing
Stand out songs to me - that were great:
Sometimes
Smile
Red Mosquito ! - surpised, I LOVED the version on here already
Lukin
Present Tense - just demanded that I listened, a beautiful song. I loved this one - the build up, aaaah it was great
Leaving Here - very fierce- Ed's voice sounds great. Great quality - the Hartford boot is great
I loved the Roadhouse Blues improv - I think it fits well with the mood, with the title of the project, with everything.
I liked the Charleston Improv too - even if it was slightly sad
My only issue with the bonus tracks is - can we have more? Extend it? I'm not sure, feels a bit short. But I understand that there might not be anymore songs to use that aren't already used. I'm not very familiar with a lot of cover songs that PJ does - except a few. So I'm not that great with suggesting some - but are there anymore for 96?
Songs that I'm unsure about are:
Hail Hail
Who You Are
In My Tree
Habit
They are good versions we have - it could just be the SQ but I feel like I need to listen again and see what I think. I feel like possibly Habit , we may be able to find a punchier version. It's one of my favourites off No Code because of its fierceness, it's intense raw energy. I love the gaps in the middle where Ed will say something - like "Speaking as a person who has been punched in the face "
In My Tree - another favourite. I do love the version we have - and I may have too high expectations of the song - Once it gets going it is great, but I'll have to listen again to reaffirm that. I liked another couple of versions so I can do a little look-see and listen-to later on possibly
Hail Hail - Again I'll need another listen, maybe another look around - probably just SQ that's affecting my ears right now.
Who You Are - This song is a strange one for me. I have to be in the mood to listen to it - barely listen to it in comparison to the rest of No Code. I like it but I don't listen to if that often. Haven't listened to it live much at all - maybe a few times, a handful at the most? So I'm probably not the best judge for it but I'll have another listen and possibly see if I can offer anything then.
For a rough draft , it sounds very good right now. Love it
Just listened to Who You Are a couple more times - I actually like this version. Sounds better than I originally thought.
So yeah that just leaves 3 more left to tick off

Yeah, I reckon it's sensible that it might feel a bit short. I mean, it must BE short
I'm not sure there's too much to add though, that's the thing. Just off the top of my head, I think there was Rocking in the free world (well, that's not really a cover), but it's been used twice already I think. Then there was Hunger Strike. I wonder if there's a regular version out there in 1996. The Berlin version sounded great, but it's a more of a tease really.
Just listened to Who You Are a couple more times - I actually like this version. Sounds better than I originally thought.
So yeah that just leaves 3 more left to tick off
So that leaves us working on In my tree, Hail hail and Habit ?
S**t, I really liked the versions we had for the first two. I don't mind giving Hail hail a few more listens though.
Listened to In My Tree - again sounded much better. Had it on repeat.
Everything sounds much better with headphones, I'll probably end up loving the Habit we have too. I should have used headphones from the start.
Now though, When I listen to Smile - It's a great version. Just worried about the blend and merge from In My Tree into Smile - it's very loud, I know it's the SQ and can't be helped. I'll get over it.
Just listened to Who You Are a couple more times - I actually like this version. Sounds better than I originally thought.

So that leaves us working on In my tree, Hail hail and Habit ?
S**t, I really liked the versions we had for the first two. I don't mind giving Hail hail a few more listens though.
In My Tree and Who You Are can be ticked off, I have listened to them "Properly" and actually really like them. Specially with Headphones.
Hail Hail and Habit - I'm listening to Habit and again it sounds much better.
We have great versions of practically every song, I can fault anymore :( Damn joking
oh yeah - Mankind. Definitely a fun song - I wasn't too sure about this one either though. Maybe just SQ. I'll have another listen - with headphones this time
Everything sounds much better with headphones, I'll probably end up loving the Habit we have too. I should have used headphones from the start.
.
Yeah, well that's tricky though. I do the selection on headphones and can't really tell how bad the SQ is sometimes. Especially when you have songs on repeat. Then it all blurs and sounds good because you get used to it when sometimes it really isn't.
I've had a listen to a couple other Habits - simply to spread out where the songs are from, out of curiosity more than anything else
edit: Okay some other stand out versions that I think could possibly be better than the current one are:
Randall's Island, 29/09/1996 - very clean, tight version. Like the Speaking as the child of a child part Sounds great in the outro
Civic Theatre, Augusta 26/09/1996 - Love this one too. A great version - sounds great, the band is very punchy. Ed's voice is great in this one. Outro is great too. One of the highlights amongst all of the other Habits. "speaking as an individual determined to see the year 2000"
North Charleston Coliseum, Charleston 05/10/1996 - Another great one. More grittier and punkier than the others, I like it a lot. "Speaking as an individual in a band who has never been in this town before"
those three really are great, i like them a lot. the outros, the sound, the whole band, Ed's voice - all sound stronger in those three I think
but I still do like ours.

Safe bet, huh ?

YAY! that looks good, i will try and have a good listen to it today
I'm afraid we'll end up having to completely rework the bonus section though. I'm so not sure about this. E.L. if you listen to it, let me know, ok?
Great stuff. Just been catching up on the thread - sorry I couldn't contribute before - unavoidable stuff arising - I should be on track and able to contribute from now until the end of the project though!
Looking forward to hearing this rough draft.
Thanks folks

Okay, i've put the Ten Live bonus tracks aside to give No Code my full attention
I'm listening to it now, I'll come back with any suggestions later
The bonus section - Except Leaving Here, I haven't heard the other improvs. Roadhouse Blues is a great song though, so sounds promising
The bonus sections are great touches to the Live projects, they include some great gems that I've never heard before
Cool ! I'm still listening ceaselessly to you know what so I'll wait for your feedback and we'll figure it out from there I guess.
Love it
So yeah that just leaves 3 more left to tick off
Yeah, I reckon it's sensible that it might feel a bit short.
So that leaves us working on In my tree, Hail hail and Habit ?
S**t, I really liked the versions we had for the first two. I don't mind giving Hail hail a few more listens though.
I'll have another listen - with headphones this time
Yeah, well that's tricky though. I do the selection on headphones and can't really tell how bad the SQ is sometimes. Especially when you have songs on repeat. Then it all blurs and sounds good because you get used to it when sometimes it really isn't.
edit: Okay some other stand out versions that I think could possibly be better than the current one are:
