Ugh, I just looked up what I paid to see ROBERT PLANT and his band in January at the Beacon Theater in NYC (where Ed is rumored) and it was $55 a ticket before fees. FOR ROBERT PLANT! And he played 5-6 Zeppelin songs. Sorry Ed, I think I'm sitting this out. (which sucks because I missed his first go-around because I was saving to get married). But I'm not really down with the ukelele.
PS. Remember when Pearl Jam took on Ticketmaster and no other bands really backed them? R.E.M. said they would then booked their tour through Ticketbastard like a week later. Yeah that sucked that they lost.
I have ZERO problem paying that kind of money for Ed. I will gladly pay it multiple times over if he's coming to Canada (or at least Toronto and Montreal).
god bless your comfy lifestyle
I didn't mean it to come off that way....i just think Ed puts on a real special show. IMO its well worth the money, but yeah i'm not deciding between paying my mortgage or going to see Ed...
Shows: Montreal 98, Barrie 98, Montreal 00, Montreal 03, Montreal 05, Ottawa 05, Toronto 06, Vancouver Night 1 08 (EV), Vancouver Night 2 08 (EV), MSG1 08, MSG2 08, Montreal Night 2 08 (EV), Toronto Night 1 08 (EV), Toronto 09, Hartford 11 (EV), Ottawa 11, Ottawa 16, Ottawa 22.

I don't mind either, its why I put $20 per week in a jar to cover all concert ticket costs for that year. I never notice it's gone and if I need more for some unknown reason that's what I take out of my account. It gives me over $1000 dollars to play with before I even have to worry. I don't drink, smoke, do drugs so putting that money away is pretty easy. I don't touch it for any reason. that way I never stress about PJ tours except for will I get tickets. hahahahahaha
If you don't plan ahead everything seems expensive.

i post on the board of a band that doesn't exsist anymore .......i need my head examined.......
Foo Fighters 2011 pit tickets $49.50. $64 after service charges. And they usually put on a "show" rather than just setting up and playing....an awesome show at that. Just sayin.
So how exactly does buying tickets work through Ten Club? I've only ever bought concert tickets from Ticketmaster. Do you buy them in pairs?
Yep. They don't sell individual tickets through the 10 Club. You will see an announcement and they will go on sale here before they go on sale to the public on TM or LN.

Yes you buy them in pairs...you won't know where your seats are until you pick up the tickets the day of the show.

I have zero problem paying that ticket amount to see Vedder. It's all about compromise.
I don't plan on going to see any of the Pj20 shows(schedule wont allow it), so therefore I have money cleared to go see a solo show instead.
It's all about personal worth to each and every one of you. Even if I could make the other shows, I would pay. I dont see too many other acts throughout the year, so I save, budget my money for vacations, shows etc..
If you cant afford a $90, then its probly pretty clear that a $65 ticket would give you trouble as well. Maybe some of you should cut down on the amount of shows you see in a tour. You really dont have to see Ed, or the band 6 to 7 times in one section of the tour. Make sacrifices to adjust to your current financial situation.
And so you see, I have come to doubt All that I once held as true I stand alone without beliefs The only truth I know is you.

I've seen the Foo Fighters 3 times over the years. They put on a decent show but IMO i would rather see PJ/Ed any day of the week over them.

Obviously some will defend and some will question - as is the case every tour.
I've never missed a local Ed or PJ show since 2000, but I think I may have to pass this time. Which is fine, I had a great run, but I can't drop $100 on an Ed solo show, plus all the other expenses that come with the night.
i have to wonder why some people continue to pay their annual memberships if they feel like they are being exploited by the greedy entity known as Pearl Jam Inc and all its Subsidiaries?
i don't disagree that $95 can be a lot of money to a lot of people ... but is it a fair price when comparative shopping to things like sporting events, operas, plays, etc? ... i think so ... sure, you can find artists that charge less but you can also find artists that will charge a lot more ... plus, if you get to see Glen Hansard play as well in the US - the value at $95 is pretty good in my opinion ...
So how exactly does buying tickets work through Ten Club? I've only ever bought concert tickets from Ticketmaster. Do you buy them in pairs?
Yes you buy them in pairs...you won't know where your seats are until you pick up the tickets the day of the show.
im not trying to pick on your posts....but i laugh at the whole fanclub random seats theory ....i know my seats aren't gonna be first row because i know i will never "win the lottery"
they will be the same as the past 15 years (within a few rows)
so for someone like myself... i know i will be in the 10-12 th row .. any city any venue
i post on the board of a band that doesn't exsist anymore .......i need my head examined.......

Same man. Hell I would pay double/triple the price if he got his butt to play here in Halifax. I had a dream he was playing @ the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium @ Dalhousie University in Halifax. It's a great place. Leonard Cohen played 5 nights there which blew my fucking mind. 70+ year's old & still has the vocals of an angel.

jeeezz..
what do you THINK you should pay?
what would be fair do you think?
it doesnt all go into Ed/Pj's pocket, y'know?
Your ticket price covers the following
-venue rental (which doesn't always include that listed below)
-venue insurance (usually compulsary)
-everyone in the entire venue who's working has to be paid,(guy taking tickets, guys selling beers, merch people, cleaners, riggers&tech staff)
-the promoters have top be paid for the advertising(radio/print/internet etc)
-the ticket agencies have to be paid/take their cut
THEN!
travel&accomodation costs for those listed below including and on top of having to pay
-the road crew
-the support act
-the bands manager
-and finally the act has to be paid.
So break it down, how much do you think would be a fair price for your ticket?
Oh come on, $94 these days to see a rock legend in an intimate venue? how much is a lap dance these days? and how much is a broadway shows? both existing comparable of entertainment.
As for those bands, Neil Young is definitely a contemporary. Or are you saying because Neil has been around longer he can charge more? or because he has a bigger fanbase that means his tickets should be more (id argue the fanbase thing too), or that its ok for U2 to charge $150 or £130 for front section standing...because they are huge? I dont understand that logic.
Neil has been around much much longer and a majority of his fans are probably in their 50's with money to burn. I personally don't put him in the same genre as PJ but it's just my opinion. U2 charge $50 for GA standing right in front of the stage. Their best tickets are $50. People think it's awesome PJ charge the same for front row that they do for nose bleeds but they are making just as much money with a flat price. It evens out when you overcharge for shit seats and undercharge for front row.
Many Pj fans are in their 30's and 40's - and mostly probably as affluent as Neil fans. but thats irrelevant when it comes to pricing a show surely. I wouldnt think any band should base their prices on if their fans can burn money. Seriously if U2 are charging $50 out there im amazed. Here in the Uk its very very different. They even segregate the GA areas into pricing levels....if you can pay loads you can get closer - there didnt appear to be any regard to the fanclub member who had been around since day one, the people that matter there are those who can afford to pay. I prefer the same pricing structure, then discrimination is not applied between income levels and the view in the house. of course this is just opinion
with increased fame you get the right to charge more?
Absolutely. And they certainly do take advantage of that right
I think you misunderstand me here. I was not asking a question, i was using your example to ask a reverse statement. It was being implied that because the so called non contemparies i.e. the bigger artists had been around longer (U2 NY etc) it was ok for them to charge what they like, but not for PJ.....I was merely questionnuing if its ok for the world megastars who make the blander but more popular music to charge top whack because a) theyve been around ages, or b) they have a huge following? I know its back to supply and demand and people will set prices in line with market demand, but thats exactly what PJ must do also.
Pj are not affordable? really? you dont feel they give value for money? dont go. Simple. yes it really is.
They were affordable. I could still afford them but at the current pricing, I will be thinking long and hard about going next time they come around. I am skipping the solo shows this time around. I can also safely say that the casual fans who go to their arena shows will not be spending $100 for tickets. They won't sell out shows at that price. And I respect you as a poster and your opinions so please don't stoop to the don't like it, don't go mentality.
Its easy to get fed up with people questionning or complaining about every little thing they do. Often based on a wholesome lack of knowledge of what is involved in making these decisions. whats more you dont think thse shows or future Pj will sell out? really ? from my recollection 95% of their shows are a stampede. the one here at the 02 sold out in 9 minutes flat. and thats in the Uk....an 18000 capacity arena.....and it wasnt the only date. That was £70ish a ticket. considering PJ are not exactly a household name here, Im struggling to understand why you would think this. Plus if it gets to that point, they have a crazy demand out here, and in asia, south america, etc ......so its easy to figure out what they will do, and why shouldnt they? They have earned that this last 20 years
Whats more, People will go and see Pj every night and see a totally different show, i dont think that is true of one of the so called contemparies you list above.
Some play different setlists. Some play the same thing but what does it matter if you only see one show like most people outside of this board do? I don't think they sit around and set their prices based on varying setlists but what do I know
perhaps not but its another highlight of the Pj experience which goes someway towards justifying laying out money to see them...which i maintain is still inline with the majority of other artists
i cant help but think you are one of those people who whinge and whine about every little detail here, and then are first in line for tickets on their announcement. maybe im wrong, but these people do exist.
Incorrect. As I said above I am to the point where I am fed up with them and their prices and will think long and hard before seeing them next time they come to Philly
Your call, but i stand by the fact that a lot of the 'negative fans' will be right in the queue for tickets as soon as they are on sale. That is immensely frustrating, and often borders on hypocritical
Lets not forget PJ are a band who will go that extra mile to make their concerts that little bit more friendly on the environment, that little bit more eco friendly, they look after their crew extremely well, they give a shit, and im afraid all that costs money.
And you know other bands don't do this? Radiohead comes to mind
and? your saying the increased cost shouldnt be an issue? My point is subjective to PJ - a reason amoungst many others that prices will increase...others put in the price of fuel, the price of staffing, the price of the venue, etc - they are not a charity.
Its very easy to wander on here and say 'pj are overcharging'..
Which is what people are doing because it's a discussion board
maybe so, its a discussion board with a tired old never ending argument. so be it
im not trying to pick on your posts....but i laugh at the whole fanclub random seats theory ....i know my seats aren't gonna be first row because i know i will never "win the lottery"

i meant pj..not eddie... i cant comment on vedder becasue i haven't used fanclub tickets for him
believe me....i will never never win the lottery....(p.s. their is no lottery )
i have seen the world of box offices up close.....and shit gets switched around so much it would blow your mind

Ding, ding, ding. Someone finally gets it. Not to mention that particular cities Union that has to be there for set up.
Bands like Green Day keep their ticket prices a little lower because they pimp themselves out in so many ways other than their shows.

Well yes and no. Depends where you see them.
I've seen Pearl Jam at high demand shows (MSG08) and relatively low demand shows (Toronto 09). My seats at the TO show were infinitely better than the ones at MSG (which were still quite good).
So yes you should have a rough idea based on the popularity of the venue, but if you see the band in different cities the quality of your 10C seats could be dramatically different.

I have done it so many times and its still fun as sh^% walking up to that ticket window. Enjoy it, this band, and Ed solo both put on amazing shows. Have fun and you never know, you may just hit the lottery and end up in rows 1, 2, 9 or 10!!!!!

For Pearl Jam, yeah I'll pay that gladly!
Agreed - Pearl Jam is another matter entirely.
I really liked 'Into The Wild' but a lot of those songs were teases more than actual songs - nonetheless I loved it and the solo show I saw. This 'Uke' album though, I'm not as pumped for - and certainly not as pumped as I am for a new PJ studio album or the PJ20 fest.
All of this, plus the ticket price, and I'll let someone else enjoy.

Dude, I'm not an idiot and I know it ain't all going to Eddie so you could've saved the condescending "jeeez and crap" y,know?.
Anyway I was comparing Eddie Vedder with Robert Plant and his band and it just doesn't add up for me. I love the band as much as the next guy and Ed Ved is the face of the band, but he's got 2 albums of solo stuff and is going to play the ukelele on like half the songs, which gets pretty old, pretty fast. As I said in another post, $95 a ticket adds up pretty quickly if you're making a night of it in NYC or a comparative place. Maybe he should bring back the tiered ticketing.
My point is this - when I can take 4 people (including myself) to see Robert Plant and it only costs aprox $75 more that 2 people to see Eddie Vedder at the same place, there's a problem. Agree or don't, I don't care. And yes I can afford it, but its not worth it to me. I'll just try to go see PJ20.

and yet i get the same thing every show every town ....from the big cities to the small towns (no pun intended)
therefore it leads me to believe that certain people have certain opportunities that others dont ..just saying
i get what i have to get based on my # nothing more or less where as others seem to move around abit depending on things....

Whic is the same as saying 'I'm gonna stomp my feet and throw my toys from the cot and go to something else! but i'm gonna complain about it first!'
which is childish really.
it is what it is and no amount of whining on a message board's gonna make a lick of difference about it. At all. No point doing it really.

I don't mind either, its why I put $20 per week in a jar to cover all concert ticket costs for that year. I never notice it's gone and if I need more for some unknown reason that's what I take out of my account. It gives me over $1000 dollars to play with before I even have to worry. Yep. They don't sell individual tickets through the 10 Club. You will see an announcement and they will go on sale here before they go on sale to the public on TM or LN.
8/15/92, 9/28/96, 8/28/98, 8/29/98, 9/18/98, 8/3/00, 8/9/00, 8/10/00, 8/23/00, 8/25/00, 9/1/00, 9/2/00, 4/28/03, 6/18/03, 7/5/03, 7/6/03, 10/1/04, 10/3/05, 6/19/08, 10/27/09, 10/31/09, 5/21/10, 9/3/11, 9/4/11, 10/21/13

Yes you buy them in pairs...you won't know where your seats are until you pick up the tickets the day of the show.
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.
I've seen the Foo Fighters 3 times over the years. They put on a decent show but IMO i would rather see PJ/Ed any day of the week over them.
I've never missed a local Ed or PJ show since 2000, but I think I may have to pass this time. Which is fine, I had a great run, but I can't drop $100 on an Ed solo show, plus all the other expenses that come with the night.
i don't disagree that $95 can be a lot of money to a lot of people ... but is it a fair price when comparative shopping to things like sporting events, operas, plays, etc? ... i think so ... sure, you can find artists that charge less but you can also find artists that will charge a lot more ... plus, if you get to see Glen Hansard play as well in the US - the value at $95 is pretty good in my opinion ...
im not trying to pick on your posts....but i laugh at the whole fanclub random seats theory ....i know my seats aren't gonna be first row because i know i will never "win the lottery"
they will be the same as the past 15 years (within a few rows)
so for someone like myself... i know i will be in the 10-12 th row .. any city any venue
70+ year's old & still has the vocals of an angel.
i suspect your seats for EV will not be so predictable ... i'm guessing our numbers are pretty close and where I sit depends on what show at what city ... and i've won the lottery so i think it's possible that you could too ...
jeeezz..
what do you THINK you should pay?
what would be fair do you think?
it doesnt all go into Ed/Pj's pocket, y'know?
So break it down, how much do you think would be a fair price for your ticket?
i meant pj..not eddie... i cant comment on vedder becasue i haven't used fanclub tickets for him
believe me....i will never never win the lottery....(p.s. their is no lottery )
i have seen the world of box offices up close.....and shit gets switched around so much it would blow your mind
For Pearl Jam, yeah I'll pay that gladly!
Ding, ding, ding. Someone finally gets it. Not to mention that particular cities Union that has to be there for set up.
Bands like Green Day keep their ticket prices a little lower because they pimp themselves out in so many ways other than their shows.

Nice! Thanks. Kinda worried about what seats I'll get though if I won't know until the day of the show...
I'll be biting my nails in anticipation the whole way there. Ha!
8/15/92, 9/28/96, 8/28/98, 8/29/98, 9/18/98, 8/3/00, 8/9/00, 8/10/00, 8/23/00, 8/25/00, 9/1/00, 9/2/00, 4/28/03, 6/18/03, 7/5/03, 7/6/03, 10/1/04, 10/3/05, 6/19/08, 10/27/09, 10/31/09, 5/21/10, 9/3/11, 9/4/11, 10/21/13

Their tickets are lower because they go on REAL tours, not dinky little 12 show tours like PJ.
I'll just try to go see PJ20.
and yet i get the same thing every show every town ....from the big cities to the small towns (no pun intended)
therefore it leads me to believe that certain people have certain opportunities that others dont ..just saying
i get what i have to get based on my # nothing more or less where as others seem to move around abit depending on things....
eh whatever im going to smoke
i don't doubt there is fishy stuff going on ... but having won the lottery - i have to say that i believe it exists ... and that typically my seats are where i would suspect them to be based on touringfans and what not ...
im surprised a man like yourself believes in 'the lottery"
no way
Whic is the same as saying 'I'm gonna stomp my feet and throw my toys from the cot and go to something else! but i'm gonna complain about it first!'
which is childish really.
it is what it is and no amount of whining on a message board's gonna make a lick of difference about it. At all. No point doing it really.
