i haven't shoveled snow in 8 years.
i have chained up a tractor trailer several times while mountain driving.
haven't been snowed in a house in 8 years.
i was snowed in a truck stop in wyoming once. and was an hour or so behind wyoming's worst traffic accident.
the next day when rolling through the accident zone, all i saw was several melted diesel engines, some engine mount frame shit, trailer doors...maybe, some wheels, a few places where it used to be some cars, places where it was 80,000 pounds of truck now ashes and melted interstate, burnt grass and snow and ice.
Blizzard of 2010 on the east coast will be better/bigger than this.

this is almost as bad as last year. will surpass it very soon down in philly at least.
i don't even mind the snow to a certain point. i'm okay with it during the holidays and into the first part of january. after that it gets old real quick.
hmmm...if that prediction is anywhere near correct, no way the office is open wed. and if it is, no way will i be able to get out of the driveway without spending an hour or two runnign the snowblower
anyway else just sleep in an extra hour or so no matter what during a storm? just tell your manager your road isn't plowed yet, even if it is? i do that shit all the time. no sense in waking up extra early to shovel just to get to work on time in the middle of an armageddon. my fiance's a teacher so she normally has at least a 2 hour delay for the smallest amount of snow. so i just sleep in a bit with her...
whats with all these bitch ass offices closed non sense?
i havent had a snow day in 30 years
my condolances.
snow days are the greatest thing known to a child. we once had a snow week back in the mid 80's.
you never woke up and listened to the radio to see if you were on a 1 or 2 hour delay with the hope of hearing your school would be closed for the day?

i ussally do the opposite. if the office is open, i just go. it's the manley thing to do.

that's sad.
the mid 80's? how old are you dude?? wtf
and nelly, my place never closes either unless the county it is in declares a state of emergency. if you live in an area that declares that, you are granted a snow day. i always try to make it in though, but i take my sweet time.

i misread your other post and though you had a week off of work in the mid 80's
yeah in high school we had mid terms canceled twice
once in '93 due to the ice storm. missed a week of school.
then in the blizzard of '96. missed another week. that shit was great.
it was like 5th grade. by the time friday rolled around, we could have had school, but i think by that point, event teh teachers didn't want to go in for the single day.
they might have extended the school year a day or two into june.
Tell that to the drunken, dipshit, rednecks I see every year using a chainsaw to down a live, healthy pine tree and then try to burn it in the campfire. No matter how much gasoline you dump on it, it won't burn you motherfucking idiots.

btw, i'm gonna get all old on you fuckers real quick.
we lived out in the country, not far from town, only 5 miles or so. the road we lived on was gravel. lots of rural nowhere shit going on back there on the farm. during severe winter storms the buses would not travel down gravel roads. we had to meet the bus @ the highway (a hard surface road they call it) or get dropped off there and walk home.
it was cold as fuck. snowdrifts easily taller than a car or truck, they were endless and huge.
on a side note....... once or twice our school bus got stuck on our neighbor's road, it was a dirt road turned to mud. the dad of the kids that lived there, pulled the school bus out with his john deer.
cancelling school is for candy ass little bastards.
