    So...
There's still Maryland Heights, 07/02, with the talk at the end we could possibly keep a part of. Really like this one.
Mansfield, 09/16, seems to have the 'clearest' sound.
    Inglewood, 07/13 is sweet.
Inglewood, 07/14 is ok too. SQ slightly better than night 1. But night 1 has a nice 'spin' to it.

All four apparently have a better SQ than Minneapolis.

And my vote goes to ........ Maryland Heights!

    Let's try...

    Wishlist:
    Park City, Utah 6/21/98
    Englewood, Colorado 6/23/98

    DTE:
    Englewood, Colorado 6/23/98
    Melbourne 3/5/98
I am the artist formally known as "Cameron4President"....
    1998: Va Beach VA
2000: Va Beach VA, Columbia MD
    2003: Raleigh NC, Bristow VA
    2008: Washington DC
    2009: Philly 3
    2010: Bristow VA
2013: Baltimore MD, Charlottesville VA, Charlotte NC
    2014: Cincinnati, OH
    2016: Hampton, VA, Raleigh, NC

    Wishlist :
Englewood over Park City ---> sound is not the best, and there's a slip up midway through it.
Englewood is nice. Louder crowd and song builds up nicely. I'm not so sure about the guitar on-purpose distortion towards the end. That's fun now, but it could end up being a bit annoying after a few listens. I don't know.

    DTE :
both sound good too. I still like Mansfield better, but that's probably just me, considering that I don't like that song that much anyway ... Any of those two would suit me equally.

I liked that one, had a good effect on me.

Fancied a bit of Leatherman this morning and put on our version. One of the problems I think is that they improved this song a lot by making it more agressive and faster, but I think they may have done this for the 2000 tour - which makes the original sound pretty pedestrian by comparison. The version we have got seems a little in between - but I couldn't help wishing for the later arrangement on this song - much more punchy. I'm not sure if they brought in the faster arrangement in 98 or not though

Am at work right now and I don't have my notes with me. I don't recall hearing a very different arrangement for this song when listening to the different versions off the '98 tour. But I could be wrong. Worth checking it out.

Notes! You're far better than I am at this!

No, my hunch is they jazzed it for the 2000 tour, which is when I started digging the song. I was thinking about your earlier comments that you didn't get it. I think the later live versions are a much better rendition of this song - but the one we have is good, for the earlier arrangment

    I'm organized 8-)

I'll have to check it out on its 2000 arrangement then. I reckon it's not the song in itself, rather the lyrics I'm uneasy with. It'll grow on me eventually, I guess.

Yeah check out 2000 era live versions. I don't remember thinking anything much at all of Leatherman when I heard it on the b-side - thought it was a bit of a non event. I think the lyrics work better when there is more 'wildness' in the performance - and then I can relate to this wild weird character that is the Leatherman

    just my opinion but :

Faithfull - Mansfield, Ma (September 16,1998) is better vocal performance
than the Seattle, Washington (July 22, 1998) track..

Ed's voice is a little dicey mid-way thru Seattle..

    I don't think so :?

I've been blasting DTE for the last hour or so. I start to really really -finally- enjoy this song....
    But that's irrelevant.

I actually like this version better than Melbourne and Englewood.
Melbourne has the best SQ I reckon, but the vocals seem to be 'lower' than the music somehow.
This version IMO has a better overall sound than Englewood and it's more 'balanced' too.
It's probably more 'balanced' than Mansfield too, even though the latter is definitely wilder. Maybe too much so though vocally-wise.

We've been getting quite a lot of love for the Seattle Faithfull - people rating it very highly, so I doubt that one will change. DTE and Wishlist however, are another matter....!

I wouldn't want to change Faithfull. Seattle is definitely 'special'. And all other versions seem a bit 'flat' after this one. Even Mansfield, however great, doesn't convey the same intensity IMO.

i agree. we have to keep it, i love it. this version is one of, if not the, best IMO
okay, i've got to go listen to it again :)
  • I have been very busy at work today, and haven't had a chance to check in. What's the verdict on "Wishlist" and "DTE". What versions would you guys like me to put on Version 1 tonight?

Faithfull must stay, it is too good not to be on it and we all love it.
