I agree - the DTE has gotta go!!

The only thing I think we could do to improve the sound quality is to go back to higher bitrate mp3s, that were converted straight from the source recording - because I think sometimes it is the mp3 conversion which is magnifying any deficiencies in the original recording.

maybe some songs to look at - DTE (Wishlist, Fuckin Up, In Hiding)

I need to give it another listen, but I possibly agree with DTE.
I'll look into Wishlist again : I have notes about 37 other versions ( that might be -a bit- obsessional), so I might be able to come up with another suggestion.
I don't agree with Fuckin' up though.

Here are my notes after a listening to it a few times:

    "Wishlist" and "DTE" must go.
Improv is a little low in the mix, needs a very small adjustment.

    :(
I have to agree with this.

I'll resume the hunt for it tomorrow.

I have to admit that I loved this version, but it just sounded too fuzzy. I am disappointed, but it has to go.

We may want to take listen to the Letterman Performance.

We may want to take listen to the Letterman Performance.

Decent & 'clean' version of it. Well, at least, the SQ is better ... We could go for that one. Don't like it as much, but I reckon it'll flow better.
Currently giving the other versions a new listen. I wish, I wish, I wish I could find another decent sounding version of it with more 'feeling' to it than this one.

It is a little too clean, almost sounds like they are in the studio.

Sorry, been absent due to work etc - might have a chance to listen to a few Wishlists tonight. Do we have a shortlist?

    So...
There's still Maryland Heights, 07/02, with the talk at the end we could possibly keep a part of. Really like this one.
Mansfield, 09/16, seems to have the 'clearest' sound.
    Inglewood, 07/13 is sweet.
Inglewood, 07/14 is ok too. SQ slightly better than night 1. But night 1 has a nice 'spin' to it.

All four apparently have a better SQ than Minneapolis.

Was working for me a couple of days ago - but I generally 'download' and not stream them. Is it mainly the streaming that is affected?

hey i've got them working again, have to go through shows individually instead of just pulling up all the DTE tracks.
I'm listening to the Hawaii one now, will comment on it. Might listen to one or two more but then I'm off to bed.

Hawaii 20/02/1998 - DTE - nice version, certainly more punchier IMO but I'll keep listening
Melbourne now - like it too, sounds better than Hawaii maybe, gritty

I really like the Mansfield 09/16 version. As it is, I'm not a big fan of DTE and it's never been a go-to song to me. But this version I really really enjoyed. Even with the false start.

    Wishlist :
Englewood over Park City ---> sound is not the best, and there's a slip up midway through it.
Englewood is nice. Louder crowd and song builds up nicely. I'm not so sure about the guitar on-purpose distortion towards the end. That's fun now, but it could end up being a bit annoying after a few listens. I don't know.

    DTE :
both sound good too. I still like Mansfield better, but that's probably just me, considering that I don't like that song that much anyway ... Any of those two would suit me equally.

I liked that one, had a good effect on me.

Fancied a bit of Leatherman this morning and put on our version. One of the problems I think is that they improved this song a lot by making it more agressive and faster, but I think they may have done this for the 2000 tour - which makes the original sound pretty pedestrian by comparison. The version we have got seems a little in between - but I couldn't help wishing for the later arrangement on this song - much more punchy. I'm not sure if they brought in the faster arrangement in 98 or not though

Am at work right now and I don't have my notes with me. I don't recall hearing a very different arrangement for this song when listening to the different versions off the '98 tour. But I could be wrong. Worth checking it out.

Notes! You're far better than I am at this!

No, my hunch is they jazzed it for the 2000 tour, which is when I started digging the song. I was thinking about your earlier comments that you didn't get it. I think the later live versions are a much better rendition of this song - but the one we have is good, for the earlier arrangment

    I'm organized 8-)

I'll have to check it out on its 2000 arrangement then. I reckon it's not the song in itself, rather the lyrics I'm uneasy with. It'll grow on me eventually, I guess.

Yeah check out 2000 era live versions. I don't remember thinking anything much at all of Leatherman when I heard it on the b-side - thought it was a bit of a non event. I think the lyrics work better when there is more 'wildness' in the performance - and then I can relate to this wild weird character that is the Leatherman
