this has to do with the Big 5 how?
Kobe's dad played for LaSalle maybe?
or Westhead and McKinney used to coach the Lakers.

back to the Big 5. Coming into the year I would have thought DeAndre Bembry would have been the best player in the Big 5 this year but Josh Hart has played better. Deandre has been good not great for my Hawks so far. Hart has been a beast. In fact the argument can be made that Deandre hasn't even been the best player on the Hawks this year. Isaiah Miles having a huge Sr. Year. Leading scorer and rebounder for the Hawks. Hawks have really played well, Blowing game to VCU hurt some but so far only 3 losses and none of them bad (Florida, Nova, VCU). really like this team. some nice depth and play with a nice energy.

I remember watching those doubleheaders on TV with my Dad.

I use to love it when they threw the Streamers on the court, after the first made basket.

I've been there, but NEVER saw a Big 5 game. One of my sport regrets too.

    And remember Yo-Yo?

i was quite young but yes I do remember yo-yo and streamers were great awesome. as a kid seeing the streamers was so much fun. shame the NCAA won't let them do it anymore. I have spent so many great nights in the Palestra. When they write about the feeling when you walk into the building guys like this totally get it. There is just something great about walking into that building. the smells the lights, the peaks you get thru the entrance ways. it hits you as soon as you get in there. it's a bit outdated now since it's so tight in the hallways, but still an amazing place to watch a game. Just have always loved being in the building and have seen some awesome games. I will be there Wednesday night for the double header as well.
  • I finally made it down to the palestra for the first time last weekend when Penn played Princeton. The game was great but the building is amazing. I loved the sightlines, the pictures on the wall of the history. I have been to Philadelphia for various things at least 10 to 12 times but amazingly had never gone. Here's the photos I took. https://www.facebook.com/larry.fleisher/media_set?set=a.10207531064367263.1073741888.1009033449&type=3

I think that's going to be that way, intense/close games, for just about every team in the Big East this year. Good League this year.

So Nova has not been shooting from 3pt range very well really since conference play started...yet they are winning. Usually they lose when the 3'a aren't falling. Good sign...but I'm getting a little worried as this "slump" has been going on for a couple weeks now.

league is definitely much better than last year but still not great i don't think. Only Nova and Xavier I think are candidates for deep runs in the Tourney. Providence and Butler are good though.

Nova's tourney troubles are going to come from long and/or big teams. If you can shut down Hart with size on the perimeter i think this team struggles and with Ochefu being their only really reliable big man against the top tier teams that is going to hurt them. That being said with what looks to be another high seed you have to think they make it to the 2nd week this year and then most likely they get homes games (oh wait the NCAA doesn't consider the Wells Fargo their home court which is ridiculous).

I agree about Novas lack of size will, and does hurt them, especially against the top teams like you said.

Same story every year for them. At least now they've been winning when the 3's haven't been falling. Reynolds is playing a little better lately too.

losses are Nova, Florida and VCU so no bad losses yet. No top 50 wins yet though either. One positive is 7-0 in true road games so far. Heard a stat that there are only 4 teams in the country who haven't lost on the road yet so that is really good. Play Dayton at home in about 2 weeks. that is going to be a huge game since Dayton's RPI is really high. Also GW on the road which will be another important one. Just keep winning games. I think it is going to take at least 25 wins for the Hawks to get an at-large.

if they beat Providence this weekend I think they are going to get to #1 at some point. Carolina lost this week so most likely just have to have Oklahoma lose a game. Most likely chance at a loss after this weekend is later in Feb. at Xavier.

Yeah...March is all that matters though, obviously.

Reynolds is getting a lot of valuable experience with Ochefu being out the last few games.

both the Hawks and Temple lost in the Elite 8 their years they were #1. and of course Temple and the Hawks didn't get to play the regionals on their home court like Nova might :smirk:

Nova at Temple on the 17th will be a wild one if Nova still #1.
