I've seen that PitchFX chart about 50 times today (thanks to all the Rangers fans on Facebook) and you can't put too much weight in that. That PitchFX tool is not set in stone, it isn't official, and it doesn't factor in all variables. brooksbaseball.net even says that it isn't the gospel and it is mainly to give people an idea. There were bad calls both ways, but I don't think either team got hosed.

There is one thing about that chart that is very telling though...
    Strikes.jpg
my head would explode if I tried to figure that thing out

that said....I was watching in a bar, so it's not like I was hanging on every pitch or heard anything tim or joe said (a good thing  ) but I did see some clearly blown ball/strike calls that went against TX. I love the drama an ump gives to a game but the difference between 1-2 as opposed to 2-1 (or 2-2 vs. 3-1) can be game changing. wasn't it feldman who walked a guy he had really struck out :? ? it sucks when a pitcher makes his pitch (as feldman) did and then gets fucked.

I'd like to see some kind of laser thing for inside-outside and just let the umps worry about high-low.

Yeah that is why I didn't want to seem like I was blaming the umps. That was just me factor of many.

I forgot to mention the other huge positive. Derek Holland. If he builds on his starts from this year, especially Game 5, he is going to be something special.

Rangers said today they intend to pick up the option on Colby Lewis for $3.25 million. That has to be considered a bargain.

I expect them to make a solid offer to CJ and then let him walk when he turns it down.

I can't speak for everybody, but most everybody I've talked to were more than a little peeved with CJ. Especially when he seemed so blasé about losing the World Series. And I'll never forget the look on Nolan Ryan's face (although to be fair he always looks pretty grumpy when the Rangers are down) after CJ came out and hit a batter on his first pitch.

I haven't watched just a whole lot of Rangers games (so I might be way off about this) but from what I've seen I would suggest they try and diversify their offense. They don't appear to have a very good small ball game. It's either swing for the fences or lose. I'm not saying they had no base running at all, but they seem to rely on power. It might be good to get some speedy players, some batters who aren't always swinging for the third deck, guys who can steal bases, etc. Their power game works great when it works, but when it doesn't they don't do a whole lot. They did do a pretty good job in Game 2, but didn't do well on that front otherwise. That power game works well until they come up against some of the aces they've come up against in the past 2 years like Lincecum and Carpenter.

Like I said, I could be wrong about that.

In terms of small ball, we stole game 2 b/c a stolen base and small ball type play. Besides that though it was definitely missing from the Series. Most of that is due to the Cards catcher Molina who has the strongest arm I've ever seen. I think we were scared to run or get too far base b/c he could quickly pick you off the base or catch you stealing. Another part of the problem is 3 of our best hitters in the WS were Napoli, Beltre, and Cruz who all aren't great contact hitter. We couldn't string together hits enough and left too many people on.

And yeah, make CJ an offer but I would be very surprised if he's around next year. He seems destined for the Yankees I think.

When it comes to the Rangers, Flagg always says things 1000 times better than I could. So long, CJ. Holland was grace under pressure personified, can't wait to see what he does in the future.

As bummed as I am, I've got to say this was an amazing season. Having been a fan since the team arrived, I've seen so many years when they weren't regarded as much more than everybody else's farm team. Like so many I never dreamed I'd see them reach the World Series and now I've seen it 2 years in a row! It feels sort of like Sally Field's "You like me! You really like me!" speech.

Like Flagg said, these guys ain't going anywhere. Looking forward to next season.

Yeah, I remarked about that in the MLB thread. Hilarious stuff. You can see why the players love him so much. I can just imagine him with an afro and a black suit like Sam Jackson in Pulp Fiction.

Turns out it was a "team employee" who recorded it, and that somebody "close to him" is the one that leaked it. I personally don't see what the big deal is, it's a locker room (or clubhouse, whatever you want to call it), worse things go on in those things than dudes having a potty mouth. When I was in high school our coaches gave us dirtier "pep talks" than that. I can understand why the organization is upset over somebody leaking it, but I don't know why this is being talked about so much. Other than because it's really funny and a good speech. As long as the press is not in there (although they can say what they want and just have it bleeped) or not little kids in there to meet the players, they can say whatever the fuck they want.

That's a lot of beaks and ass.

Hot dog has high price tag

    http://espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/story/_/i ... hot-dog-26

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Can you imagine picking up a one-pound hot dog that's nearly two feet long, let alone eating the entire thing in one sitting?

Well, Texas Rangers fans can give it a try. For $26, fans at the new Captain Morgan Club in center field and at several concession stands at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington can attempt to clog arteries with not only the large dog, but a slew of toppings.

    Hot Dog
Courtesy of Texas RangersThis one-pound hot dog -- two with all the fixings -- will set you back $26 this summer at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Its name: The Boomstick.

By the time you add shredded cheese, chili, sautéed onions and fries, the entire plate could weigh two pounds. And it's likely to add more than that to your waist line.

"I don't know how many calories are in this thing, but it's got to be 2,000 or 3,000," said Casey Rapp, operations manager for Sportsservice, which handles concessions at the park.

It's called the "Champion Dog" in the restaurant and served on a cutting board. The waiter or waitress can even cut it into smaller pieces to share with friends. At the concession stands, it's known as the "Boomstick," in honor of Nelson Cruz. And for fans purchasing it there, a hefty carrier complete with handles is made available so it can be transported to any seating area.

"We did a half-pound hot dog during the World Series and wanted to top it," Rapp said. "Our company had to have the hot dog made special and we had to find a local bakery to make the bun. The bun is like a loaf of bread just to hold this thing."

    Galloway & Company

Nolan Ryan sheds light on whether Neftali Feliz can succeed as a starter, if the Rangers' poor spring training record means anything and the $26 hot dog being offered at the Ballpark.

    More Podcasts »

Of course, the huge hot dog is supposed to serve four people, though there's bound to be a few folks that take up the challenge of consuming the culinary delight by themselves.

"I don't recommend it, but I'd be impressed," Rapp said. "It's almost as long as a youth bat. I'm sure fans will try it just to see if they can do it."

Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan believes that the one player in the clubhouse who could take up the challenge of consuming the club's new hot dog is outfielder David Murphy.

Murphy's teammates agreed. So does Murphy think he could do it?

"If it's plain, I think I could definitely do it," Murphy said. "I'm not a big topping guy. Usually when I eat my hot dog, it's with cheese. If I tried to do it by adding the chili, that would be a challenge. Even with the toppings, I'd be close."

Murphy, who participated in a food challenge as part of a Rangers' TV broadcast in recent years, notes that he's had a one-pound hamburger, though to finish off this dog, he'd have to eat a lot more bread.

Murphy likes the idea of trying something different at the park.

"You're always wanting to see something on the menu besides the norm," Murphy said. "You're used to going to the ballpark and seeing your hamburger, hot dog, popcorn, nachos. It's fun to see something different, and this is different."

The hot dog is just the latest example of going big in Texas. The Rangers introduced a three-pound pretzel last season and it was successful enough that it's making a return in 2012.

Fans can still purchase a "Jumbo Dog," which is the regular hot dog on game days that sells for $4.50. That dog weighs one-sixth of a pound, meaning it would take six of them to equal one "Boomstick."

I don't know. I don't know if I do. Something just seems a little weird about it. I love the whole father and son thing, but it seems weird (probably not the right word) to remind people everyday of the guy who fell over the railing and died with his son watching. Definitely a very nice gesture and very well done, just a little mixed on it.

I think ESPN has already figured out most of the clever ways to play on "Yu". It started getting old when I heard one of the SportsCenter guys singing "Who Are Yu".

Nice win to start the season. 3-2. Colby was strong. Nathan was solid. Kinsler starts the season with a bang as usual.

I want to marry Kinsler. He's one of my all time fave Rangers.

Well, you have plenty of chances now since he just signed a 5-year deal with an option for year 6!
