Desperate people do desperate things...can't possibly see how Burke keeps his job if the Leafs miss out on the playoffs again...he's been there 5 years, a 6th year and no playoffs?

    agreed

really tho - mlse needs to either clean house or sell to an ownership group that actually cares about winning ...

Does the teachers pension still own a part of the team? If they do that could be apart of the problem!

I wouldn't mind owning the leafs, always sold out, sell a ton merchandise and doesn't matter if you win or lose...it's a license to print money...kind of sad though, such a loyal fan base, and loyal fans deserve better.

Yeah, I don't want to mortgage our future for Luongo. I think he still has something special in him and could rebound for a couple years, but he is no longer worth the term remaining on his contract. I know Gillis isn't going to give him away, but he can't demand what Luongo might've been worth in his prime.

He doesn't do well in pressure situations...don't see him doing well in Toronto...I can still see him being traded there though, just not for what Vancouver would like.

teachers sold ... rogers and bell own the leafs now i think ...

it would be great if it was like the green bay packers ... fan owned i think ...

1 obstacle out of the way...

Rogers and Bell...they love money as well...they'll never sell.

it's so brutal being a sports fan in toronto ... fucking every team except the rock are perpetually in a state of ineptitude ... i do like where each of the three main teams are at ... but it's absurd that toronto hasn't seen any post-season activity in like forever ... in any sport ...

It's not every day a manager/coach gets traded for players. Weird.

That's very surprising.... And the timing?

I wonder if they doubt his abilities with all of these new rule changes/s
    alary restrictions.

It's about time!! He made a shitload of terrible deals while in Toronto. I've always liked Burke, but his GM skills are highly overrated.

I'm hearing that this may have something to do with Luongo. Burke didnt want him, others in organIzation did.
    Therefore Burke had to go.

Will be interesting to see if Luongo ends up there.

Besides the Kessel deal, his trades have actually been pretty good for Toronto.

Give me a good example of a good trade? Seriously he has built a team of third liners, no goaltending, and overrated Dman, Phaneuf.
I don't think he's done anything good in Toronto, It's not his fault though his hands are tied with the corporate ownership hoops he needed to jump through.
Burke would need to get permission from the owners to take a shit.

Nonis new GM, Luongo will be the goalie as soon as trades are allowed to happen.

Burke hates front loaded long term contracts and wouldn't make the Luongo deal as he has 10 years left.

I think we can agree to disagree on this one. I can't name one good deal. Komisarek signing was horrible, Kessel deal was one of the worst trades in the history of hockey. The Flames ownership couldn't wait to get Phaneuf out of Calgary for being a cancer in the room, and Burke took him. Giguere, Gustavson, Jeff Finger, I could go on forever.

Burke is way overrated, he is entertaining, but not a very good GM.

his trade for lupul and gardiner last year was awesome ...

in any case - in watching the pressers ... it looks like this was strictly personality ... either that or the new ownership group would not give burke the autonomy to do what he wanted ...

I think it's the right move at the wrong time. Burke always gets a bad rap. I liked him as manager (including his time in Anaheim), and some of his moves were good but unfortunately he didn't make this a winning club, so he had to go. He should have been let go before being allowed to hire a coach, go to the draft and sign free agents, or been given a portion of this shortened season to end his tenure. I'm okay with the firing, but as I said, it's poor timing.

big home opener tonight. Wonder if they go back with Scrivens tonight.
Like the deal to sign Lupul for another 5, think he might be worth it

Overpriced, but a good player to keep around.
They should go back to Scrivens to get an actual game under his belt ;)

liking the kadri, komorov and jvr line ... hope they gel ... outside of that - doesn't look too promising ...

As a Habs fan, I hate to make this statement but....

Toronto actually looked like a decent team there on Saturday night...

Your only downside was that Scrivens looked like a deer in headlines the entire game... kid either needs to find his comfort zone quick or the team needs to get Luongo... any decent team will pick him apart...

I think it's going to be a bleek season in Montreal....
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.
