    AHHHH!!!!!!

    http://www.atu2.com/news/report-u2-shoo ... -week.html

REPORT: U2 SHOOTING ACHTUNG BABY DOCUMENTARY IN WINNIPEG THIS WEEK

The city of Winnipeg is all abuzz over the sight of several trucks of U2 equipment being loaded into the Burton Cummings Theatre on Thursday.

There's no official word of what's happening, but CJOB radio says U2 is shooting a documentary to be called Achtung! with Davis Guggenheim, the man who helmed It Might Get Loud a couple years ago with The Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack White. If that turns out to be correct, the documentary would presumably be included on the anticipated-but-not-yet-announced Achtung Baby re-issue/remaster that's expected later this year.

The Winnipeg Free Press says there's a "strong possibility" that U2 will be rehearsing and/or shooting a documentary at the theatre. CBC says they've only been told the facility is booked for a private event.

This reissue might top The Joshua Tree reissue. I plan on getting the biggest box set for this.

Nice!!!!! makes sense - their next show is in Winnipeg on May 29. so quite a few days to do stuff
Yep, plus the stuff they shot in Hansa Studios in Berlin a month or so ago. This is looking to be a mighty reissue package.

Obviously they'll include b-sides like they did with JT and UF. "Lady With the Spinning Head' might be my favorite b-side of theirs.

thats a great song - It was what became The Fly

Break out a couple of these soon.

    http://www.atu2.com/news/photos-u2-arri ... nipeg.html

    PHOTOS: U2 ARRIVES IN WINNIPEG

As rumored, U2 arrived in Winnipeg Friday and immediately beat a path to the Burton Cummings Theatre. That's where the band's gear had arrived on Thursday for what's expected to be some kind of documentary/video shoot with director Davis Guggenheim.

Several @U2 readers were at the airport and theatre to welcome the band to Winnipeg. U2 landed at the airport at about 5:30 pm and visited briefly with fans there. Then at the theatre, it was Bono and Adam who spent the most time greeting and signing autographs for the dozens of fans who'd been waiting all day. Heather A. tells us that fans outside could hear the band playing the following songs inside:

Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
    Love Is Blindness
The Fly (for the 5th time)
Even Better Than The Real Thing
    The Fly
    One
Blowin' In The Wind - Where The Streets Have No Name
Even Better Than The Real Thing
    The Fly
    Magnificent
    Mysterious Ways
Until The End Of The World
    Elevation

Commentary: That looks like it could be a cross between a Glastonbury rehearsal (remember Adam hinted that they'll be heavy on 1990s songs there) and a documentary/video shoot for the expected Achtung Baby remaster later this year. Heather tells us that Bono confirmed to local news outlets that the band is shooting a documentary.

Huge thanks to Heather A., Rick S., Greg M. and Mark N. for sending us a couple dozen photos from today's activity. We've added their photos today to the same slideshow that we posted yesterday. That's now grown from eight to 31 35 pictures. Enjoy!

I hope the AB package is bigger than The Joshua Tree and Unforgettable Fire one's. I think they'll most likely add the b-sides and let's hope we get outtakes also!! :D:mrgreen:

Typically sparse news article from U2.com:

    Rehearsals In Winnipeg
The band arrived in Winnipeg today and went straight into rehearsals at the Burton Cummings Theatre.

Outside the theatre Bono told fans that they were here filming a documentary about Achtung Baby with Davis Guggenheim and he was pleased to see they'd brought the Irish weather to Winnipeg.

Adam and Bono signed autographs and met with fans who'd been waiting outside since early this morning.

Achtung Baby is in dire need of a remaster. And you know what would be ultra-cool? The band playing the whole album in its entirety, like what Bruce did for Darkness!

Awesome that this is getting a remaster. It definitely deserves one.

That'd be awesome! Would that be something U2 would do? Also, was Acrobat ever played live?

Acrobat has never been played live, it's the holy grail to a lot of fans. I like the song well enough, I just don't understand why some are so obsessive about hearing it live.

On their current tour, Rush performs the album Moving Pictures in the middle of the show, and that is just amazing. I would love for U2 to do that, but I really don't see that happening.

    haha...true!

but I think it is more likely to get a PJ rare song, than a U2 rare song.

But in U2's defense they do rotate some of the older ones while on tour. One of the best moments I had at any concert is when they did The Electric Co. at one of the Philly shows on the Vertigo tour. I was right next to the stage, felt like I was part of the song, was amazing

That's top 3 for me on the album and it's one of the one's I want to see on a set list and then listen to the bootleg of it. It's such a powerful song.

I heard about Rush doing that. I think it's the 30th anniversary of the album.

Not noticed this thread before. I love Achtung Baby, although at first I thought it was a let down after Joshua Tree - I soon woke up to it though, and probably play it about twice as much as I do Joshua Tree - my two main u2 albums I return to.

I always think Achtung Baby sounds like a 'divorce' album. There is certainly a lot of heartache and intensity there. I read an interview with the musician Moby one time where he said something similar - he also said that every song has a reference to oral sex in it.

yes, great observations. Achtung Baby was made around the time that Edge was going through divorce with his wife at the time and a lot of that came out in Bono's lyrics.

Actually the making of the album is an interesting story, worth looking at. They almost didn't make it, there was a lot of conflict between the band members over it. Once the song One came together, then the rest of the album gelled.

Yep, I have heard about that. Thank you Edge for coming up with that chord progression on One, otherwise we wouldn't have this masterpiece or the band anymore. Maybe we'll hear about this in the Achtung documentary that they'll be filming.

    Personal anecdote regarding this masterpiece.

Back in 1998, talking about mostly Pink Floyd with a friend, whom I considered my personal music guru at the time, I told him I have been saving some money to buy a cd. After that long talk, I told him I came to a conclusion to buy the dark side of the moon. I was about 19 at the time and he is about 10 years older. He approved in excitement my decision.

I went to the store a few days later and came across Achtung Baby!. My first ever cd was rattle and hum, wich my dad bought me at my request when I was about 15, but in 1998 I have never listened to any other complete U2 studio album. I have rented the Zoo TV VHS at my local video rental a few years before this and was blown away by the radical and cool change compared to rattle and hum (i have also seen the film, wich is why I wanted the cd).

I read the title tracks of Achtung (while holding the darks side cd on my other hand) and instantly remembered the sidney video concert.

A couple of weeks later I met my friend again and he asked me about my cd and I said i did not by the dark side. His first reaction was "what!?, howcome? Its pink floyd!" I have grown to be this passionate about music as well... "What did you buy?" I said, Achtung Baby. And while I was mentaly preparing to explain why, his face changed from schocking to neutral. And just said, "oh. Good choice. Amazing album." Until then, we have never discussed about U2. Mostly only 70´s music and alot of Rush.

It's confirmed that they are performing in the theater for an Achtung documentary. Bono, of all people, confirmed it (we know how he is with new albums).

    http://www.atu2.com/news/u2s-second-day ... ances.html

U2'S SECOND DAY IN WINNIPEG: PROTESTS & PERFORMANCES

As I type this, U2 are performing for the cameras inside Burton Cummings Theatre in Winnipeg. It's their second day in the city for what is now confirmed to be a documentary video shoot about Achtung Baby with director Davis Guggenheim. Bono confirmed that on Winnipeg TV news Friday night.

When the band arrived at the theatre today, they were greeted by both fans and protesters. The protesters were reportedly from the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and were upset because they believe that U2 is using non-union crew.

The big white sign in this photo from @U2 reader Greg McVicker says

    "Sunday Bloody Sunday"
    Edge & Bono
    Union Busters

The protest ended, though, after someone came out and talked to the group. It's possible the protesters were mistaken about U2's use of union employees. Anyway, we expect to get more info about the band's video performance inside the theatre, and possibly more photos, so we'll update this post later when we know more.

Thats great news! I have never heard of a reissue of this album. I hope they release vinyls as well.

Newch91: You won´t regret buying the Zoo tv dvd. Its a great document of this U2 era.

I think what most people don´t like about this, is that it seems Bono, and the band, are acting like big shots, rock stars. It is true. They are (were) acting. "The Fly", "mirrorball man", etc are fictional characters. Not to be mistaken with bono himself. Wich to me, was a brilliant stage act. And the music is beyond fantastic and innovative.

You could hear a hint of Achtung Baby in rattle in hum´s "God Part II". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfTmG7_WzgA

Sort of what RUSH was hinting with "Vital Signs" on Moving Pictures for their next album, Signals. Musicaly hinting that is.

I know, so far, with all the reissues they've done (JT, UF, Boy, October, and War), all have been reissued on vinyl also. Definitely getting this on vinyl!!

I might order the the 2-disc version from Amazon, which has a bunch of extras (I'm an extras person).

I have heard about people being upset and confused about this era of U2. I heard "The Fly" character was Bono being a stereotypical rock star (black leather jacket and pants, black sunglasses). Gotta love it!

The stage set up was WAY ahead of its time (and also PopMart).

I was thinking the same thing about "God Part II" and how it was probably a little warning for fans of what was to come.
