    zoo tv?????
that was the worst U2 tour in their history

y'all must have been too young to see them before they became pop stars

and I agree that achtung may be their most listenable record
    joshua tree comes close though
of course, I was lucky and saw them for the first time in 1983

05/08/1983 Trinity College - Hartford, Connecticut, USA
Out Of Control, Twilight, An Cat Dubh, Into The Heart, Surrender, Two Hearts Beat As One / Let's Twist Again (snippet), Seconds, Sunday Bloody Sunday, The Cry, The Electric Co. / Send In The Clowns (snippet)
encores: New Year's Day, Gloria, I Will Follow, 40

back when they were hungry for success instead of spoiled by it-and this is coming from someone that has remained a fan and attended two nights of the five night letterman stand for the last record
  • I downloaded a bunch of their albums yesterday and so far Im kinda dissapointed. The only albums I really dig are Achtung Baby, Joshua Tree, and their latest album.

I got Unforgettable Fire, Zooropa, and the other 2 albums that came out in the 2,000's. Dont really care for them so far.

So Cruel is one of their most underrated songs. Wish they would play it live.

I was in a record store yesterday and saw this on vinyl for $25 and almost bought it. Kinda wish I would have. It didn't have the insert, but it had the uncensored version of the cover.

I'm still holding out for the new deluxe vinyl. They're supposed to release their entire back catalog on 180 gram, with extra tracks, the works.

"The Fly" is my favorite U2 song.

It's been described as the sound of U2 "cutting down the Joshua Tree," and I couldn't agree more.

    Amazing record.

That's a great analogy. A fellow PJ fan and huge admirer of Achtung Baby and I have had a similar conversation about the first time we heard "The Fly". How it was so sublimely different than anything they had made previously. That album is ahead of its time still today.

    agreed.

I will be waiting anxiously for that! I'm going to end up buying the whole super deluxe edition of it.

Going for my first U2 gigs this Dec. Looking forward to seeing Ultraviolet, among many other songs.

Good to know. I know they have re-issued all of thier old 80's stuff, but I didn't figure they would re-issue the 90's stuff as well. Big fan of thier 90's albums. Will buy them re-issued for sure.

Achtung Baby is a great album but I still think Joshua Tree was better... only slightly. Just for those 2 albums alone I can forgive Bono for being a twat.

Agree with others that say the ZooTV tour was amazing. And to think 11 years later I walked out of a U2 show because i thought it was shite.

I think this is my favorite U2 album.

allthough I really do dig some songs off the really underrated Zooropa and Pop albums.

Stay and Somedays are better then others from Zooropa are my favorite U2 songs (and staring at the sun from Pop).

Pop gets such a bad rap. They name one song discoteque and everyone thought it was a disco record.. lol
  • I resent the fact I missed seeing U2 when they toured this album. But they did a mini Zoo TV set when I saw them during the Vertigo tour in 2006, so that kind of makes up for it, I guess?

Pop is genius! Like you, I don't know why it gets a bad rap. Great stuff on that album.

I can't stand Mysterious Ways; otherwise this album is a masterpiece. But, to echo others, it is NOT underrated. Everyone listened to this album in the 90s. I remember it being one of the first CD's that actually looked cool, with neat artwork on the actual disc.

I think I'm seeing U2 in July 2011 for the first time. The tixx will be, I think, 2 years old by then.

Sounds like there are some youngsters getting into U2 on this thread. The Unforgettable Fire is probably my favorite - great atmospheric sound. It won't blow you away, just sit back and enjoy.

As far as vinyl, all of their 80s stuff should be easily found used in record stores. As far as Achtung Baby onwards, I'm not sure. There tends to be a scarcity problem with vinyl on 90s albums, as we Pearl Jam fans are painfully aware.

Yeah. I want to see them next year. Thinking the New Meadowlands, but I might plan a vacation out to LA and go see them with my cousin there.

Tremors hooked me up with Pop on vinyl. Should be arriving either later this week or early next week.

speaking of the visuals... it's such a kickass record...that Lars of Metallica, coming off their most successful lp, wanted to hire the same photographer for their next record (Load), and did. arguably the greatest metal band of all time was impressed.

The artwork alone should show that it is a completely different band and album than the 80s band.
