just a quick question...when has anyone ever said that to you? Not saying they haven't, but I am interested in the context. It has to be the dumbest thing I would ever hear someone say. It anyone ever told me I didn't know something simply because I am not from a country I would turn around and not speak to them again.that’s right! It's happened to me a couple of times on AMT - if I make a statement that's even remotely anti-American, some yobbo usually replies and tells me to go home to my own country. It's a ridiculous line of thinking - I'm yet to meet an actual American that likes every single thing about their own country, yet some people act as if every foreigner living here has to love absolutely everything about the place. Hell, I don't like everything about my own country, but if I heard an American in New Zealand bashing us, my first thought probably wouldn't be "bugger off home" - I'd assume they had to like more than they disliked, or else they wouldn't be there. And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.0 -

If you don't trust the government you also need guns to protect your freedom. I think all the trusting folk on here should play devils advocate and pretend for 24 hours the government is not working on your personal behalf, that they are not who and what they pretend to be. I was red white and blue once so I have seen the other side, it would do well for everyone to see all sides. And I am not talking parties. "This ain't no party"

he's awesome in concert btw
i don't trust the Government completely, far from it, but i don't need guns to protect my freedom. like Tyler Durdin said, the "things you own end up owning you", and "sticking feathers up your butt doesn't make you a chicken".
so to me, putting a gun in my hand doesn't make me free. quite the opposite in fact.
I have a few questions for you and the pro-gun crowd then:
How do you feel when you watch the news and see people around the world shooting each other in the streets (I'm talking Middle East, etc)? Do you think "Those guys don't have the first clue about how to solve their problems" or do you think "Good for them for owning guns so they can defend themselves."?
[end of questions. start of diatribe]
Personally, I'm yet to hear one credible argument proving that more guns = more safety. It seems to me that if the government is doing bad things, and the people are arming themselves in response, then the end result isn't going to be utopia, it's going to be chaos.
And what is "when the time comes" supposed to mean, anyway? Obama is going to turn into the next Hussein or Hitler? It's nothing but baseless fearmongering - if you don't like the job the government is doing, then don't vote for them next time around. And if by "when the time comes" you're talking about an external enemy - someone attacking the USA - then with the weapons nations around the world currently have, a gun won't do you one bit of good. And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.0 -

^this.
and mikepegg44, you are looking for clarification on context? the discussions on universal health care and the benefits compared to the system the US currently has is a classic example. some people can't handle constructive criticism. they take it way too personally. like you're having a go at them.
because you're advocating for universal health care, apparently you must be some alien from another country . very wrong assumption for them to make.
at the end of the day i don't care if people agree with me or not, it's just the ignorance that they sometimes display that amuses me. i've worked in a country that has universal health care, and i've worked in the US Health system the last few years too.
i'm pretty sure i can make an informed opinion on it, even if i wasn't born in the US.0 -

Now your criminals will continue to own guns anyways, this we know, so taking the right away just affects those who would like to protect family and property.
Instead of using your example, the people in the streets in the middle east, which what comes to mind for me is, don't these guys have jobs? also they usually have rocks and bombs! not guns
lets use the example of home invasions, they are on the rise, brazen criminals, even in broad daylight.... would you like to have at least the option to protect your family? If you don't, many do want this and feel more secure with this option.
I am not afraid Obama is going to turn into Hitler, a little sensational you are don't you think?
No I am saying without question things will fall apart here and perhaps all over the world whether planned or otherwise.
Some people may want the option to protect themselves and their property from others or some may chose to stay in their own homes then to go to the camps that are being readied for the masses. These camps designed to contain and maintain control in this type of emergency.
We are a free people or at least like to think we are and should be able to exercise that freedom with the choice to own a gun. You don't have to, that is your choice, but others may wish to.0 -

I agree Pandora. I don't have a problem with someone that doesn't want to carry a gun, I have a problem with the person that wants to take mine away. If you don't like guns, fine, don't carry, but leave me free to make my own decision without trying to take it away from me. Not to mention, guns can also be very fun as a hobby, not just for protection.0 -
