FIVE GUYS vs. IN 'N OUT ....which is better?

  • I tried In 'N Out when I was in Phoenix a little over a year ago. I was very underwhelmed and cannot believe that people make such a big fuss over it. Five Guys is much, much better. However, I prefer indie, mom and pop hamburger shops like Hamburger King where I live in Montgomery, AL, or the Dew Drop Inn (the place that inspired Jimmy Buffett's song 'Cheeseburger in Paradise') in Mobile, AL. Chains like In 'N Out fall way short when putting them up against authentic, indie establishments like the many great ones we have in Alabama and throughout the Deep South.

went to Five Guys the other day...they were even giving away fries, "we have some special fries for free!" one family asked for them, and they got a bag stuffed with fries...not that they needed any more fries.

    can't wait to get 'extra-well' fries from in-n-out someday....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-N-Out_Burger_products

The secret menu is almost too much to comprehend! I've never been there before, I might just stick to the basics for the first go...

I love 5 guys, it's pretty much the only place I go that you would call "fast food" with the exception of freebirds..... The hype surrounding In 'n' Out is huge... I hope it can live up to the expectations... :D

Had my first burger from Five Guys from the one in Hanover, MA. on Tuesday. Burger was so awesome and the fries were great too! I would definitely go back.

I think In 'N Out is better...their food just tastes fresher although I haven't been to 5 guys in years. Fries are definitely better at Five Guys though. I've been eating in 'n out at least 1-2 times a month since they opened up locations all over Dallas. :D One warning Shep, if you don't like the strong taste of onions, make sure to get your burger without onions as they put A LOT and it's a strong tasting onion.

Shep, a better comparison for us since we are in Texas, would be In 'N Out vs Whataburger. Personally I think In 'N Out gets the edge on the burger due to the freshness of the ingredients like I mentioned above and I think their beef tastes better..but most of my friends still prefer Whataburger although they all gree In 'N Out is still very good.

Let me know if you're ever in Dallas..I'll meet you for a burger at in 'n out  There's one 2 minutes away from where I live.

To tell you the truth... I've never eaten Whataburger with the exception of when I've been bordering on black-out drunk... so I couldn't tell you what it tastes like... I know the next day my bowels feel all tied up, but I'm not sure if that was from eating or drinking

I'm actually in the process of planning a Dallas trip with a bunch of my buddies now for January... Taking all the Habs fans from houston up to dallas to watch the Canadiens beat up on the Stars on Jan 12! :D

I think it is difficult to compare the two because Five Guys seems a bit superior in terms of quality/price.

I tried 5 Guys for the first time this year, and the food was great!

Same here. I am quite impressed with the freebees you get to put on the burger. That's pretty cool.

are you saying it's just more of the 'culture' than the food itself?
