    In this specific case.... I believe they were afraid to get involved with something like this.... I am sure some of them must have believed that the girls were in the wrong.... But after they were punched it must have triggered something with in them... they must have felt that brutality... ... to me, seeing a white cop punch a teenage black girl brings back memories of history.... But that's just me ... and those guys could have felt that they were better off recording or being witnesses ..... don't know....I'm just glad they didn't get involved.... That should work in the girls favor....during court.....

    At the end of this ... I believe the cop should be suspended....maybe fired... and the girls shouldn't receive squat! They over reacted ... They should have to do some serious community service...but the officer should not be let off easy either....because he should have never punched a teenage girl..... that is for sure! I don't care if multiple teenage girl's were attacking him.... He should never hit a teenage girl...... take a step back...call for back up ....

    That piece of paper can be discussed in front of a judge, and the person ticketed can explain to the judge why them getting a ticket is worse than the oil spill, and whatnot. And if the judge doesn't agree with them, then they can have a petition signed to repeal the jaywalking laws on that street.

    Jay walking seems silly, but part of a cops duties is to protect and serve and i see it all the time when people dart out in the street and many times with kids in tow and in many cases the proper crossing is usually only a short walk away. I agree a ticket is not necessary but letting people know that it could be dangerous could be a big help.

    What if the Officer called her a "Nigger"(excuse my language)? Would that merit discharge? Black people might see it as a racially motivated act. I think he should be suspended and should be investigated to the fullest extent....

    The other girl started shoving the officer. Out numbered, and with this girl physically assaulting him, I can understand his actions of punching her. What is he supposed to do? Let her continue to shove him? It wasn't about to get easier for him to complete the arrest. She was assaulting him and preventing him from an arrest, so he did what he had to to stop her.

    You didn't want to make a hypothetical example and you used one at the beginning.... Ok.... What could have been done better?
    Do you think if the cop would have called for back up right away ...all of this could have been avoided? That's my point...
    I personally don't believe a teenage girl should have been punched in the face...if she had pulled out a gun....I am sure he wouldn't be thinking -punch her in the face-....it would have been,- go after the gun-...

    I am not on the side of the girls.... I think they over reacted and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law....But we pay these officers a lot of money to be professional ..and that isn't being professional.... I don't know what was said that might have triggered the girls ....or the full story...but bottom line is that they should have not been punched in the face...... Especially a teenage girl.... push them away ...pull out your mace and threaten to mace them.....while doing that use your radio to call for back up.... That's how I would have handled it....No shame in that ...

By asserting control over the situation in a firm and unexpected manner he was thankfully prevented from having to use a more agressive method of control.

    He couldn't have pushed her? Being much stronger then her.... he couldn't have maced her? ... He couldn't have taken a step back and called for back up? ...
    Again ... I am not trying to let these girls off the hook.... I am talking about the officers actions...
    If he would have shot her... would that have been ok? Since he felt threatened and was defending himself?
    I just don't believe a man should punch a women in the face...especially a teenage girl... ... If my teenage niece was pushing me...and I felt threaten ...Should I punch her in the face?
