First of all, I wouldn't ever be a cop. I have a soul, a brain, and don't need the public to support my donut and coffee habit.

Second, he should have never given her a citation. We need about 1% of the cops we currently have and they should be there for violent crimes only.

third, if someone did spat on me and I was a cop I would probably think "I deserve that" and go about my pathetic, trivial life.

As a taxpayer, if I vote in a law where people can't disrupt my morning commute to work, they'd better hire someone to enforce that law.. that's your opinion, but the cop was doing his job.

so we get to vote on whether jaywalking should be a crime or not? I wasn't aware of that...

Maybe not directly, but who's coming up with these laws, the jay-walking police?

In the city, Jay-walking can be dangerous for the pedestrian and disrupt traffic.. I agree, it is a very petty law, but a law non the less that the cop is expected to enforce.

"The authoritarianism of one man is crime and the authoritarianism of many is State. Benjamin Tucker wrote quite accurately:
Aggression is simply another name for government. Aggression, invasion, government are interchangeable terms. The essence of government is control, or the attempt to control. He who attempts to control another is a governor, an aggressor, an invader; and the nature of such invasion is not changed, whether it be made by one man upon another man, after the manner of the ordinary criminal, or by one man upon all other men, after the manner of an absolute monarch, or by all other men upon one man, after the manner of a modern democracy.

Tucker's use of the word "invasion" is remarkably precise, considering that he wrote more than fifty years before the basic discovery of ethology. Every act of authority is, in fact, an invasion of the psychic and physical territory of another." R. Wilson

So when this bitch darted out in front of traffic and caused me to slam on my breaks, was she not invading my psychic and physical drive to work? Her big booty had some authority over me, right?

Come on, the cop was just giving her a little fine, a slap on the wrist.. He wasn't going to lock her up. Stop being overly sensative. The government isn't getting off on this act of authority.

Police make a determination about something, and aside from verbally communicating with them to try to dissuade them from giving a citation/arrest/or whatever, they will continue to write the citation or make the arrest. Anyone who physically impedes them is going to be stopped by force from impeding them.

The officer was already struggling to arrest one person who was resisting. Then a second person starts pushing and shoving the officer. I am not surprised by his reaction - male or female.

Why not just take a ticket for jaywalking and be done with it?

Then one of her friends got involved, and actually pushed and shoved the officer?????

Local or state government comes up with the laws, often without support of the people, and more often without notifying the people until it is in place. Seriously, do you think if this was an issue that was voted on that the majority would want jaywalking to be a misdemeanor? That law and dozens of others would be repealed immediately if we could actually VOTE on them...

and yeah he's expected to enforce it... he is just doing his job... so were the nazis...
