"The authoritarianism of one man is crime and the authoritarianism of many is State. Benjamin Tucker wrote quite accurately:
Aggression is simply another name for government. Aggression, invasion, government are interchangeable terms. The essence of government is control, or the attempt to control. He who attempts to control another is a governor, an aggressor, an invader; and the nature of such invasion is not changed, whether it be made by one man upon another man, after the manner of the ordinary criminal, or by one man upon all other men, after the manner of an absolute monarch, or by all other men upon one man, after the manner of a modern democracy.

Tucker's use of the word "invasion" is remarkably precise, considering that he wrote more than fifty years before the basic discovery of ethology. Every act of authority is, in fact, an invasion of the psychic and physical territory of another." R. Wilson

So when this bitch darted out in front of traffic and caused me to slam on my breaks, was she not invading my psychic and physical drive to work? Her big booty had some authority over me, right?

Come on, the cop was just giving her a little fine, a slap on the wrist.. He wasn't going to lock her up. Stop being overly sensative. The government isn't getting off on this act of authority.

Police make a determination about something, and aside from verbally communicating with them to try to dissuade them from giving a citation/arrest/or whatever, they will continue to write the citation or make the arrest. Anyone who physically impedes them is going to be stopped by force from impeding them.

The officer was already struggling to arrest one person who was resisting. Then a second person starts pushing and shoving the officer. I am not surprised by his reaction - male or female.

Why not just take a ticket for jaywalking and be done with it?

Maybe not directly, but who's coming up with these laws, the jay-walking police?

In the city, Jay-walking can be dangerous for the pedestrian and disrupt traffic.. I agree, it is a very petty law, but a law non the less that the cop is expected to enforce.

Local or state government comes up with the laws, often without support of the people, and more often without notifying the people until it is in place. Seriously, do you think if this was an issue that was voted on that the majority would want jaywalking to be a misdemeanor? That law and dozens of others would be repealed immediately if we could actually VOTE on them...

and yeah he's expected to enforce it... he is just doing his job... so were the nazis...

that is a very poor analogy... in fact it doesn't make any sense whatsoever. All the cop had to do was walk away after she got upset. If she doesn't pay the fine then a warrant is issued. Cops should know that part of being a cop is being spit on if you give tickets for jaywalking. He could have TALKED to her. Just said, "hey, stay out of the street ok?"

I think the officer was in a bad position and maybe started to panic with all the people around him.... The pressures of all the hysteria around him must have made him loose it...... I think it could have been handled much differently.... maybe he could have taken a step back and called for back up...or threaten them with mace.... But really he needed to take a step back and think it through..... She didn't deserve to be bunched in the face no matter how much an idiot she was acting.....

this will continue to create negative feelings towards police, amongst many lower class citizens....

"It seems at first glance that authority could not exist at all if all men were cowards or if no men were cowards, but flourishes as it does because most men are cowards and some men are thieves. Actually, the inner dynamics of cowardice and submission on the one hand and of heroism and rebellion on the other are seldom consciously realized either by the ruling class or the servile class. Submission is identified not with cowardice but with virtue, rebellion not with heroism but with evil. To the Roman slave-owners, Spartacus was not a hero and the obedient slaves were not cowards; Spartacus was a villain and the obedient slaves were virtuous. The obedient slaves believed this also. The obedient always think of themselves as virtuous rather than cowardly."

Granted, follow the rules set in place I agree but I'm not pro officer in many cases having witnessed in my 36 years of adult life an awful lot of harassment, jay walking being an excellent opportunity. This would fall on the shoulders of the officer involved and every different case. And yes I don't condone the disrespect of any human being, the law enforcer, the law abiding or the lawbreakers. We can all only hope we can remain respectful of others.

Had the 17 year old just kept her mouth shut, acted like an adult, an taken the ticket, this whole situation would have been avoided.

But I understand asking the 17 year old to act like an adult......Is asking a lot......

I have as many issues with the police as the next person, but in this case those women were in the wrong with their reaction. I'm not saying they should be punched, but they were definitely getting physical with the officer and it was escalating. In this case, I see them more in the wrong than the officer.

I remember how I felt about cops when I was young. Do we all?
It faded away over time becoming a good citizen and all.
But many of the same feelings reemerged with my own teenagers and their friends in recent years. I might not be the best choice on a prosecutors jury, to say the least. I have seen too much that has been entirely unfair, officers baiting, officers abusing. Justice system a huge money making joke.
My children have learned, be respectful, don't antagonize, "you get more flies with honey" and there are a lot of jags out there. All tough lessons the young must learn.

I agree, but the punch is over the top.... It's almost as if he had some kind of hate boiling inside and just released it.... If it had been a black cop punching a white teenage girl .... Unsung and Godfather would have been up in arms...out raged! All of the white supremacist and tea party nation would have been threatening Seattle! It would have been a completely different story....because you don't treat an American girl like that! This isn't some third world nation....

Dudes felt bad for the cop. Women are verbally brutal.

Not that a punch was the solution, but the guy felt threatened I guess.
