Back in my college days when I was a young white boy listening to gangsta rap, Alive came along and grabbed my attention and then Evenflow grabbed me by my balls and turned my musical world upside down.
Saratoga 92, Mansfield 00, Mansfield 03, Boston 04, Montreal 05, Mansfield 08, Boston 10....to be continued....
"Alive"...remember seeing it on MTV back in the day. I was already into lots of the Seattle bands, but this new Pearl Jam band seemed to have a maturity and depth that some of those others didn't. Will never forget it, as it blew me away.
"I know I was born and I know that I'll die...the in between is mine"
Cannot remember the year .
but it was when the boys won all the awards for Jeremy.
I was at the time listening to Neil, Zeplin, floyd etc nothing modern was grabbing me at all. and basically ignored the grunge thang as being for da kids
at the end of the night they closed with Neil doin Rocking in the free world. It blew me away. you could see the energy these guys had. you could see how pumped they were playing with unkie neil.
bought 10 a few days later
How many times I drove the roads near home, volume up . screaming along .tears streaming . They fully connected with where I was at the time. I felt like I could (nif I had the talent) have written those words.
all the way through to now
IT STILL CONNECTS
thanks pearl jam for the company, thanks for my own personel soundtrack.
Funny I was never into music before PJ. I was 14 when the Jeremy video hit and I thought boy I haye the way my girl friend is looking at him. I hate this guy. Broke up with the girl and while driving along the beach leadbetter came on and blew me away. I ran out and bought 10 and couldnt find the song on thier. So I bought every single they had out and came across it finaly. Funny how things turned out. The girl didnt last but the music did. So leadbetter got me hooked on PJ for life.
I saw the even flow video on MTV in junior high.... then my older brother got me 'Ten' for xmas 92, which was a surprise because he didn't own the CD himself and I never asked for it. (most likely some of his buddies were hyping it up and he knew I liked the Even Flow/Alive/Jeremy videos.)
Which brings me to an interesting thought. It seems 80% of the fans on here became fans during 11-14 years of age. How crazy is it that such young kids can have such good taste in music??? Look at kids nowadays, it is a complete 360. Justin Bieber anyone?? And why does it seem that our age group latched onto this band much more than people who were 21 - 26 when 'Ten' was released? Was it because the music was past their 'time', meaning they listened to Poison for so many years, they couldn't make the switch in tastes....

This is very interesting. I would agree with you on this...I got into them around 2000 or 2001 so I was 14 or 15. What you're saying makes sense if you think about it. You hit the nail on the head with this one.
I remember coming home from college around 91-92, and my brother playing TEN. He was a senior in HS. Black was the song that did it for me. Picked up Vs the day it came out at East Brook Mall in Willimantic, listened to it nonstop.
I had heard PJ on the radio when I was younger, but I didn't get into them until a bus trip in high school when my PJ-crazed friend put Vitalogy in her walkman, slammed the headphones on my ears and told me I wasn't taking them off until I'd listened to the whole album. During that first listen, "Bugs" stood out the most. I bought Ten not long after that, and the rest is history!
Chicago 2000 : Chicago 2003 : Chicago 2006 : Summerfest 2006 : Lollapalooza 2007 : Chicago 2009 : Noblesville (Indy) 2010 : PJ20 (East Troy) 2011 : Wrigley Field 2013 : Milwaukee (Yield) 2014 : Wrigley Field 2016
Black...live around 2000 which lead me to Evenflo and after that...nothing but PJ for years...I have come back to earth but still have heavy diet of PJ in rotation
I would say the Alive and Evenflow videos on MTV turned me on as I said I have to see this band live. I thought is was great that they used live videos for the first two songs they put out. It really captured them as a lightning in a bottle a complete team effort.
