another year, another major. another one tiger lost. I'd say golf has moved on. Anyone of those guys who won the majors during these past few years are golfs future. And Tiger knows it. We all know it

Of course, he is 37 years old. He still has some really good golf in him though clearly.

Honest question, how long have you been watching golf?

Edit: And I am pretty sure golf has not moved on. Were you paying attention to the shit show Saturday morning? Would that have happened for any other player in the world? I don't think so.

  • I just dont see him being happy. He's number 1, but he lost a major. Pretty sure he'd take a major win over being number 1 anyday. I think its obvious major's drive him, major wins to be more exact. In terms of his golfing career I'd suggest thats pretty much the ONLY thing he's ever cared about.

If he won 14 tournaments in 2013 total, and lost all 4 majors, I and most everyone else, including Tiger would consider that a failure of a year.

I was a fan of tiger during the Tiger slam. I lost interest later in the decade, and turned on him during the scandal.

Somethings causing him to lose majors. Whether you want to believe its because of age, or mental blocks, or injuries, or whatever, thats your own bag my friend.

But the fact remains something that seemed so easy for him, I know it obviously wasnt easy, but during his "golden era" days, to now, its like night and day. Something caused that. For me, it makes as much sense to say it was aging as much as mental blocks caused by the scandal.

Ive posted on here before talking about things he himself has said. He's given his reasons for why his golf game has suffered. The response ive gotten has been typical posturing and silly childish games that masquarade as normal internet behavior. Why discuss the issues or the argument when you can prove Ive been watching golf for only 2 years as opposed to Joe Schmow who's been watching it for 40 years since he was in diapers.

again show me one thing I said that was incorrect. Anyone who thinks Tiger is fueled by winning dippy PGA events as opposed to majors is out of their minds.

And Jordan and Kobe are fueled by exhibition preseason wins!

I'd say at this point people are more excited by Rory and Adam and Bubba than Tiger.

But the shit you post about tiger is all assumptions about his head, nothing more. None of us know anything about him, he made that clear a couple years ago. His game wasn't the same but he is back to being the best player in the world. The guy has played in exactly one major as of a couple hours ago since his game is back to close to where he wants it. If he gets a but straighter off the tree, look out.

Yeah, no. Tiger still moves the needle. Ratings are 4 to 5 times higher when tiger is playing, not rory, not bubba. That is a fact. Edit. 4 to 5 is aggressive but the fact remains, people watch for tiger. Can't debate that

We know. They mentioned that a couple of dozen times during the telecast. I'm happy for Scott. He's likable and I felt bad for him when he had that meltdown last year at The Open. But I'm just as happy to not have to hear about Norman and no Aussies winning and all that stuff anymore.

Cliffy, you are so right. Love him or hate him, people still want to watch him waaaaay more than any other golfer.

And for everyone is so holier than thou about his scandal, I guarantee 99% of athletes have cheated. Tiger's biggest mistake was getting married in the first place. That's the only difference between him and Derek Jeter, who everyone treats like he does no wrong.

yeah ... peeps like the ones on this board who will cheer for him no matter what! ...:lol:

for sure ratings are up when tiger is in contention which is probably why he didn't get dq'd on saturday ... having said that - i would say, it's a double edged knife ... if the broadcasters/media only care about tiger - it's no wonder people don't watch when others are playing ... they don't get the air time ... how is a casual sports fan supposed to learn about some other golfers if the broadcasters focus on tiger?

in any case - really happy for adam scott ... well deserved ...

Keep reading and hearing a lot of negative shit about Tiger's play this week. He's a hit flag stick away from being -9 and he didn't hit a putt all weekend. His downfall is exaggerated. He'll get a major this year. I still don't get the hatred for him. He didn't cheat on you.

What a classy player and person Cabrera is.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/golf--ange ... 31529.html

Angel Cabrera helped re-start Adam Scott's career

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Adam Scott wasn't just in a swoon. He was in an absolute free-fall.

It was September 2009, and Scott was in the midst of the worst stretch of his professional career. He'd seen his world ranking drop from 3rd after the 2008 U.S. Open to 53rd. He'd missed cuts in 10 of his last 14 events, and in four of the previous five majors. He'd broken up with a longtime girlfriend and had made some dubious business decisions, like the purchase of a Gulfstream G450 jet.

Fellow Australian Greg Norman knew all this, and still selected Scott for the 2009 Presidents Cup team.
Norman came under withering criticism for picking the underachieving Scott, criticism which served to motivate Scott that much more.

"It was kind of a gut-check time," Scott said on Sunday evening. "My game was in a bit of a rut, to be fair, and I wasn't enjoying it. But Greg as the captain had a lot of faith in me, and belief that I could win a point for his team, and he gave me a pick, and I didn't want to disappoint him."

What Norman would do in 2009 would contribute, more than three years later, to one of the most dramatic playoffs in golf history. Scott was radioactive, playing so badly that he was almost contagious. So Norman connected him with someone whom he thought could help steady Scott's nerves and game: the then-reigning Masters champion, Angel Cabrera.

"Nobody wanted to play with Adam [in the Presidents Cup]," recalled Charlie Epps, Cabrera's swing coach. "Angel said, ‘I'll play with him.' " Standing in the light of the Augusta National clubhouse Sunday immediately after Scott's Masters victory – winning in a two-hole playoff against … Cabrera – Epps smiled at the memory – and the irony.

"That was Greg's decision, and it was a good one," Epps said. "Greg had faith in Adam. It was the start of a great relationship [with Cabrera]."

Scott and Cabrera would lose the only match they played together, but they weren't alone. Norman's International Team would lose to Fred Couples' United States team 19½ to 14½.

Still, Cabrera and Scott got along well, and at one point, Cabrera pulled Scott aside and told him, "You're a great, great player." On Sunday night, wearing the green jacket, Scott nodded at the memory. "Something I didn't forget," he said, "and really nice of him."

Perhaps it's a coincidence, perhaps not, but Scott's career turned around after that Presidents Cup, first slowly and then with avalanche speed. He missed only one cut in the 2010 majors. He notched two top-10s in the 2011 majors, including a runner-up in the Masters. And he appeared headed for his breakthrough victory at the Open Championship in Royal Lytham last year before falling apart in the last four holes. And now, a green jacket.

Cabrera's warmth and generosity toward Scott even extended to their playoff. As they were walking down the 10th fairway, playing their second playoff hole, likely as tense a moment as either man had ever experienced, Cabrera looked out from under his umbrella and gave Scott a thumbs-up. It's not a gesture many other golfers would have done for a rival.

"Angel is a great man," Scott said. "To do that at that point is very nice. I think, with limited abilities to converse, you know, we would consider each other friends, and have a lot of respect for each other."

Just minutes after Cabrera gave Scott the thumbs-up, Scott's birdie putt on the second playoff hole dropped into the hole. Cabrera embraced Scott, later saying he told Scott how happy he was for him, and how much Scott deserved this moment.

"Unfortunately in playoffs, it's one-on-one, head to head," Cabrera said afterward. "And there's got to be only one winner, and he was able to win."

If Cabrera's able to take comfort from this loss at all, it's that he can take at least some small measure of credit for Scott's success. That's not nearly as good as a green jacket, true, but in a game that prizes sportsmanship, it's essential nonetheless.

Tiger is THE huge draw to golf. Undeniable .

The crowd appreciate all the players but when it comes to Tiger, he's the golf equivalent to Jordan.

They reported the other day golf viewing figures are up 80% when tiger plays. Coincidence ?

Those who have issues with him here and view him as a spent force definitely like to spend their time focusing on him and talking about him. Not bad for a has been

ok ... let's settle this ... who actually is not a fan of tiger cuz he cheated!?? ...

i personally could care less ... i don't like him because he's a prick and he has about an ounce of the class someone like adam scott or bubba watson has ... i don't cheer for guys just cuz they win ... there is more to sport than winning ...

i would also like to point out that once again - tiger could not win coming from behind after 54 holes ... you would think the greatest player of all time could once no?

im a fan of the guy because of his immense ability and the way he has played the sport.

I also dont dislike his personality, he wears his heart on his sleeve and has a desire to win, that might sometimes boil over, but if you want the sport played by robots then so be it.

I like his charactor, and his dedication, but more than anything admire his domination of a sport through mastering his art - I would compare him in that respect to many other greats across the board such as Federer, Jordan, Usain Bolt, Messi etc
