  • I can understand sitting Phil on saturday but at least put Bradley with Tiger as stricker was terrible throughout. I love the guy but Phil's cheering of Rose during the last few holes was a little ridiculous given the situation.

Yeah, what the fuck was that all about??

If this was the US Open there's no way Phil is cheering for his opponent down the stretch. At the end of the day the US players don't really care, this event means so much more to the Euros.

golf channel guys were saying that's tiger ... instead of doing what phil did which is embrace the team spirit and partnering with a young guy ... tiger likes to play with who he likes to play with ... it's obvious that pairing was not doing anything ... break it up ... but i'm guessing davis gave tiger the choice to play with whoever and he stuck with stricker ... not sure if that's loyalty or him not wanting to go out of some comfort zone ...

    Little of both I suspect...
No way Tiger should have been in the 12th spot yesterday...I fully agree w/ he & Stricker being broken up - lets face it, Stricker and Furyk were awful this week. Awful. Tiger had 2 rounds of 7 under and 6 under. It never even came down to him yesterday. Davis' Captain picks completely backfired...Europe, plain and simple, wanted it more. They gelled more as a team. They had the ghost of Seve on their side. What Europe lacks in majors on their team (5 total on whole team, Rory, Graeme, Lawrie and Kaymer) they more then made up for in heart.
More than half of the US team has majors (23). Seems like US players put more stock in those then the Cup. Doesn't mean they didn't want to win it however, just means a little more to Europe.
Gotta tip your hat to Europe. No pressure. 8 back. US soil. Went out and jackstomped the US. Unlike the US, they made the putts in big spots.
I also think Stricker should have been left off for Mahan. He was terrible.
Great job Europe, congrats. It was drama filled and riveting must see TV. Looking forward to 2014.

you can't take fourball scores and say he was playing well ... a) they don't count his bad holes and b) he's basically playing go for broke ...

the reality is that he was part of the problem in foursomes ... how many drives did he put stricker in bad spots? ... you don't play well and go 0-4 ... plus ... on a day he was placed in an anchor spot against a guy who didn't do much all week - he made exactly zero birdies ... he only won his holes when molinari bogeyed ...

yes - stricker and furyk were bad but so was tiger ... making a few birdies in fourball isn't really a reflection of how he played this weekend ... i really think his swing under pressure is flawed ... time to start over ...

edit: just checked tiger made 1 birdie on a par 5 on sunday ...

For anyone who would like to see it again or for those who missed it,the Golf Channel is rebroadcasting the NBC feed on Monday night(tonight) and Tuesday night(singles matches,4pm-9pm).
Bronx Bombers you are right about Mickleson applauding and giving Rose the thumbs up after his par saver on 16 and the monster putt on 17.WTF Phil, why not just go pull the ball out of the hole for him also?
I like Micklesons' go for broke style, but this type of "awe shucks" attitude he presents sometimes is goofy to say the least.
Also, asking to be taken out of the afternoon matches Saturday,I just don't understand.Worried about whether other guys will get a chance to play?Trying to get the "team" mentality going and it backfired.Always go with your hot hand.It puts Love in a bad situation.Tough to play a guy if he doesn't want to.
But who wouldn't want to play every match? Baffling.
I said it earlier, this was some of the best, most exciting golf I have ever seen.
    Anyway, enjoy the replays.I will.

Stricker and Furyk were CAPTAIN PICKS - they stunk. Plain and simple. Stricker especially. He had no reason to be on this team ahead of Hunter Mahan.
Davis had a few head scratchers for sure...
Bubba vs Luke to open up Sunday? C'mon...
Stricker out in the 11th spot?
Furyk, Kuchar & Stricker at the tail end of Sunday?
    Tiger in the 12th spot?
Keegan & Phil not playing Sat afternoon?
Remember, Tiger is the rank #2 golfer in the world. He earned his place on the team. Stricker did not.
Simply put, Europe out played the US, made the putts they needed to and gave an old fashioned whoopin on the US. EUR deserved to win. The US deserved to lose.
There was a whole lot of choking done by guys not named Woods on 17 and 18 before he ever got there...
Kudos to EUR - this was one of the most exhilarating Ryder Cups I've ever seen. There is so much good about the game of golf right now and the future looks strong.

I read your post...and I WATCHED the entire Cup.
I will REPEAT as you obviously chose to ignore:
Woods was the second-best player on the course Friday afternoon but lost to Nicolas Colsaerts, who enjoyed the greatest day a Ryder Cupper ever has (8 birds and an eagle!!!). Tiger received NO help AT ALL from Stricker in their three team matches together.
    How was that "bad"???? How???
Was the Cup won on Sat? Fri? No, Sunday...
In three matches playing their own ball, Woods posted 13 birdies!!!
    How was that "bad"???? How???
Tiger has manned up and taken his fair share of the blame. Does he wish he had 3 pts for the US - of course. To call his performance "bad" is ignorant and incorrect. Typical Tiger hating spew is all it is...
Where is the disdain for Furyk or Stricker? Why the pass on them? They get 1 pt - or even 1/2 the US WINS...
    C'mon.
12 men for the US tee'd up on Sunday = Dustin Johnson, Zach Johnson and Jason Dufner were the ONLY point winners...the other 1/2 pt?
AND AGAIN --> The CUP WAS WON WHILE HE WAS STILL ON THE COURSE SUNDAY
What part of that are you failing to realize man?????
Where is your disdain for Michelson imploding? Tapping out on Sat? There are about 10 other glaring horrific things to be pissed about/upset about that directly contributed to the US losing this Cup.
    Jeez...

Not taking it personal at all, brother..funny to see how much the guy is getting hammered on, and how much his teammates and captain are getting a free pass.
I really do hope you had a blast in Missoula, the reports sound so amazing. If you get a chance, you must rewatch this Cup - The Europeans played some amazing golf on Sunday, quite a feat to witness.
Even though I was pulling for the US, this Cup has to go down as one of the greatest in the history of RC's...

tiger actually admitting he played terrible on friday morning doesn't count? ... the fact that he made just 1 birdie on sunday against molinari doesn't count? ...

c'mon ... admittedly, i'm not a fan of tiger but i can't be bothered to throw hate for the sake of it ... in fact, i hate lefty more and that guy was friggin' unbelievable in the ryder cup ...

again - in fourball where you basically can freewheel it ... it's not that hard to post a lot of birdies ... and also again - they don't count your bad shots in fourball ... he could have made 13 birdies but how many bogeys did he make?

and in the end - it's all relative ... if stricker posted his numbers - he'd get a pass ... but tiger is number 2 in the world and he's judged based on that ...

Tiger didn't do enough to win for sure. In the RC's Tiger never does enough, as someone ranked #1 or #2 - its almost expected that he gets every point in every match he goes out and plays. Team golf eliminates that possibility. I wouldn't call him "bad" however. Tough to play 2 vs 1 while toting around a corpse. I certainly wouldn't give him an F grade. Admittedly I'm a fan, but F's should be given to Stricker and Furyk. They flat out sucked. Stricker is a great putter typically, and with the exception of 1 12' early on Fri, he made nothing. Furyk continued to choke away like he has all year.
We need a brave Captain and youth. I'm a huge fan of Tiger, but he doesn't help these US teams - if you told me tomorrow he's donezo I'd be fine with it. (In fact, I think he would be too). I've never sensed, since 97, that this guy revels in this format, or in the team setting for that matter.

    anyone watching big break greenbrier?

think the competition was pretty good ... the top 3 were definitely the best golfers ... hated to see the big guy leave the other day but i think it's gonna be an awesome finale ...

don't tell me....a golfing reality show? :fp:
Seriously? It's been on for something like 10 seasons. I like the ones with the women the best.

it is and it isn't ... for sure, the show suffers from producers who edit the shit out of it to create drama but at the same time ... it's more of a game show ... it's all about the golf ... sometimes they throw in snippets of guys talking shit behind someone's back but for the most part its really about the golf ...

winner gets an invite to a pga tour event ... it's not like watching train wreck week in and week out ...

Shot my best round since I was in high school this weekend. Not impressive for most, but I broke 90 for the first time since I can remember, including 6 pars.
