Had to throw some money on Scottie. A 66 after being arrested is pretty wild.

Hang it up Tiger.  Figure out what meaning your life has outside of golf.

yeah although he did look good on a few holes (birdied twice in a row and almost had a hole in one on hole 9 i think it was?)

not sure what is more crazy. Getting arrested before he plays or shooting a 66?

Can’t be the next Tiger Woods without a few incidents involving vehicles and a mug shot.  Well done, Scottie.  Well done.

Haha.   This arrest is going to be good in the long run for Scottie.  Breaks up the boring narrative. Getting the fans behind him.

That's how I felt too.  It was a perfect finish.  I liked everyone in the mix, with one villain.  Gave me someone to root against and then to lose it in heartbreaking fashion... I feel so bad for him.

Nice to see Xander put one away.  Dude is so good.  Bryson is still a tool but it's pretty cool to see him playing so well.  A lot of the LIV guys have mailed it in but he's still grinding his ass off.

I will say that Bryson seemed less douchy than normal this week.  But maybe because I never heard him talk.

My go to golf podcasts (NLU) and Fried Egg are getting predictable in that every course seems to suck.  It could be true, but man is it getting old hearing them drone out about golf courses sucking.

If watching on TV, I would think Valhalla would be better tv viewing than a beloved links course where the holes aren’t shaped by trees or water.  For the average golf fan.  No courses outside of Augusta at this point have any strategy other than bomb and wedge so I dont know what they expect.

the podcasts also seem to think that PGA Tour golf will be saved by having brooks, Bryson and Rahm play.  There would only be a slight ratings bump I would think because chances are on the weekend two of those three are out of it.

The architecture stuff is too much for me. I’m not good enough for the true strategy to matter…though have read The Making of The Masters and it’s insane how much thought was put into that course from a pro to a high handicapper. But yeah, they lose me with a lot of that stuff.

the golf ball is such an issue that these courses are irrelevant.

Biggest issue to me is a -21 score in a major. That’s not ideal

Same.  All the architecture stuff goes way over my head.  Obviously Valhalla was way too easy but not much these courses can do at this point with how far the ball goes.  Nothing is going to change until they roll back the ball or equipment.

Exactly.  I use game improvement irons.  The pros do not (with some exceptions).  I don’t play from the tips, the pros do.  Why should the ball be any different?  Although, I think a ball roll back is fine for amateurs too because we won’t notice that much difference and our swing inconsistencies dictate our results moreso than the ball.

But you'd lose like 2 yards at most on your drive and even less on irons.  I don't think handicaps from 10 up would even notice.

That said, we'd get used to it just like different types of clubs and golf balls that exist now.

The next battle will be golf clubs.  I don't enjoy seeing mishits by pros get rewarded.

I think the rain really changed the course. They were able to long clubs on par 5s and hold the greens.  Soft greens with no wind made the course play easier than normal I would think.

It's more like 15 to 20 yards on drives. Irons I'm already short as fuck. Why do amateurs need restricting. Ridiculous. Most people will play with the hundreds of balls they already own.

15-20 is for pro swing speeds.  Unless you swing as fast as the pros, it won’t be that much different.

That looks phenomenal.  It looks like a relaxing setting amongst the farm fields.   I did like the website using Tom Fazio’s quote that it is one of his best ever.   It very well may be, but it makes me laugh as architects always say something like that.  The site is one of the best I have ever seen,  yada yada yada.
