Looks like an old question that I didn't chime in on originally, but better is too subjective as it speaks to personal tastes.
But hands down EVH has had a far greater impact on guitar playing. How many people cite Mike McCready as their biggest influence? Now how many cite EVH as their greatest influence? Quite a bit more including McCready himself.
Another tell would be to post this question in a neutral site that doesn't get infiltrated by this board to soil the results. I suspect in an real open forum EVH would probably take at least 3/4 of the votes and many would comment "Who's Mike McCready".
For my tastes, I love both as I enjoy both genres quite a bit, but I tend to listen to Mike way more. So I guess I enjoy Mike more, but I don't think I could say with a straight face the Mike is better than Eddie.Post edited by bone on1993-08-12 - Edmonton, AB, Convention Centre

They are both great, and love both their styles of playing. I enjoy watching Mike play more though. His stage presence is always fun to watch.PJ: 10/14/00 06/09/03 10/4/09 11/15/13 11/16/13 10/08/14

If the question is who's more influential the answers a no brainer, EVH. But overall taking into consideration technical ability (EVH), sound (MM), feel (MM), and songwriting (MM) I'll take Mike.0

not to beat a dead horse but transport yourself to 1981, a full football stadium, and witness the biggest rockstars in the world. This picture alone says all you need to know about how awesome this clip is.

The only aspect of guitar playing that Mccready can compete with EVH is when you start talking personal preference.
Technical ability of course goes to VH.
Sound has to go to him as well. He was ahead of his time and still has one of the most identifiable and chased tones of all time.
Far as touch on the guitar, Mike's is pretty generic. EVH has great groove, timing and an infinitely more interest and unique guitar style overall.
I don't think Mike comes close as a songwriter. He's only written a small fraction of PJ's material, while EVH has been the chief songwriter for the duration of VH's run.
For my money, I'd say you could make a much better case for Stoney McG. There's just not much of a case to be made for many guys when you start stacking them against the accomplishments of on EVH.0 -
Like I said earlier, EVHs music all sounds like 80's music. Mcready can still write music that doesn't sound like he wrote it in 1993.0
