EVH is on the Mount Rushmore of rock guitarists...but Mike Mccready is a badass guitar player who plays by feel like nobody else.

Mike would be on the Mt Rushmore of the Alt. rock scene though. BTW...I like Mike's style better.

More than likely and technically he is probably right if MM had been around during VH's peak years but I'd rather listen to Mike's free flowing Hendrix style any day.

ive never been a fan of van halen's noodling. yes, its fast and very technical, but its just not for me. I like slow and melodic.

EVH> MM in the world of guitarists.

I'm not really sure Eddie is a God, but from 1977-1982 he may have been.

There's a difference between being able to jerk off a guitar neck and being a great guitarist.

The clear choice here is Mike.

I love EVH, but don't think he has (had) the versatility of MM.

I say it's time for Mike to step up & release some customized Mike McCready line of guitars.

Cready in a laugher. It's not even a fair comparison. Eddie Van Halen is out of his league if you compare him to someone with the soul of a Mike McCready.

    Exactly!

Mike is an awesome guitarist for sure, I think he is very underrated , but EVH is one of the greatest guitarist ever, hands down. If you asked 10 non Pearl Jam fans, who is a better guitarist, 9 out of 10 of them would say "Mike who"?

Please. That doesn't describe EVH at all. The man literally redefined the way the instrument is played.

Everyone here loves Mike but let's not get crazy.

    Look at it this way:

    Eruption v Yellow Ledbetter...

I'm not into finger tapping and dive bombing whammy. I'll go with Mike, but it is a matter of style, not ability.
  • Apples and Oranges.

But I will say, I've always felt EVH is SUPER over-rated...

Who do you prefer may have been better, but then the answers may be biased on this forum. Maybe we could look at it this way.

Would there be a Mccready if there had not been an EVH or SRV or Ace Frehely or Brian May. Would ther ehave been any of these guys if there had not been a Jimmy Hendrix or Jimmy Page? Would there have been any of these guys if there had not been a Chuck Berry et al?
