Even if EVH is a BETTER guitarist...
You'd have to pay me to go see his group in concert.

The Van Hagar period is actually my favorite, but nothing, and I mean nothing ever made me feel straight up old than watching this...(and this was almost 3 years ago...)

Both are legendary in their own ways. I've seen EVH live 5 times and McCready 9 times. Both are amazing.

EVH is iconic, set the bar for guitarists, and some of the playing style that Mike uses came from EVH.

    In my book it's 1a & 1b...

I mean...I remember when they looked like this, and were referred to without a hint of irony

I was only 11 years old in 1977 when Van Halen was released.
Dave was the shit back then, compared to John Travolta or Abba or Supertramp.
However, Dave's not much of a singer, he's more of a shouter. Listen to any DLR Van Halen song and tell me he's not yelling everything.

EVH has been sober for about a decade now, saw them twice on each of the 2 most recent tours, he is playing better than he has in decades...

If you want to say Roth is a shell of himself, you'll get no argument from me, but Eddie is far from it.
