fixer--you think the nfl is as bad or worse than the nba? you have lost your mind.

the nfl certainly has some annoying aspects as you laid out. and each league is much worse off due to expansion, overhype, and inflated egos these days. but the nfl is far and away a much better product than the association these days. its not even close...not even in the same galaxy if you ask me.

i cant remember the last time i watched a non sixers game from start to finish. but i will watch just about every nfl game i can even if the eagles are not playing in it. and, yes believe it or not, i don't have to bet on a game to enjoy it--especially if it involves an nfc east team or has some kind of playoff implications etc etc etc. this is a silly argument.

I seriously watch about 30 hours of football every weekend (this includes thursday and monday nights). I love gambling, so I will never stop regardless of how shitty the product gets. I will say that the NFL has progressively gotten worse every year since I graduated high school (close to 15 years ago).

Nothing is as bad as the NBA though...I got a little carried away. The NFL is pretty bad. Image-wise, the NFL is worse. I don't know how anyone can watch NBA games. I'm same as you, I can't watch a non-sixers NBA game. recently I can't even watch a sixers game start to finish.

    than basketball or football?

baseball is the best sport product. football is the best sport to bet on. basketball just sucks (I do play in a summer league and still enjoy that...just can't watch it on TV)

you can get absolutely buried betting baseball every day...especially if you take favorites (I know this from experience). I prefer point spreads to money lines.

I don't usually bet baseball regular season games. sometimes I'll bet the phils if I'm going to the game. other than that I just bet on the playoff games in baseball

regular season baseball post june is the best. by that time you know who the good teams are, who the bad teams are and which pitchers are doing what. imo, it makes it easy relative to other sports.

and give me the money line any day. it's so much easier to pick a winner straight up then to worry about who is going to win, and if they will be enough.

yeah, but with moneylines you lay out your own money on favorites. if halladay is pitching for the phils you have to bet $250 (if not more) to win $100. the phillies are 7-7 in his last 14 starts. That means if you bet $100 on each of his last 14 starts, you're down a shitload (even though you've gone 7-7 on your bets)

I don't fuck with exotic bets like teasers or reverses. that shit just decreases your odds of winning. and moneylines fuck you up because you have to bet more to win less. I prefer straight bets with a point spread. 50/50 shot to win what I bet (minus juice on a loser).

    ah, I love it

you can tease the money line, ie give a run. not a bad idea when you have a really good team with a solid starter going agaist a bad team with a bad starter.

    i'll take the braves tonight.

ESPN Green-Lights 'The Decision' For 22 More Episodes
    July 17, 2010
BRISTOL, CT—ESPN president George Bodenheimer announced Wednesday that the hour-long program The Decision, a melodrama about NBA superstar LeBron James declaring his intention to join the Miami Heat, has been green-lighted for an additional 22 episodes. "The pilot episode was obviously very gripping, as nearly 10 million people tuned in, but the series is going to have an expanded cast of characters and mostly take place on South Beach," Bodenheimer said. "Viewers will be captivated by how the decision affects LeBron as well as by a number of new decisions he'll have to make every week, like whether or not to save a drowning fan, apply suntan lotion to David Stern's back, or let one of his teammates chase down a loose ball. And don't worry, just like in the original, each episode will feature an hour of LeBron sitting on his stool and answering questions posed by a different guest star." Bodenheimer, who called The Decision daring and innovative, confirmed that either Chris Bosh or Dwyane Wade will likely be killed off in the season finale.

Barkley: LeBron 'will never be Jordan'

Charles Barkley doesn't deny the fact that he chased a championship when he joined a Big Three of his own with Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler in Houston at the tail end of his career.

On the heels of LeBron James' decision to head to Miami to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, Barkley talked to Dan LeBatard on 790 the Ticket in Miami. To listen to the interview, go to Sports Radio Interviews. Responses have been edited for brevity and clarity.

What did Barkley think of LeBron's decision? "I think that, number one, LeBron can go where he wants to. I had a couple of problems about the special. Thank God I was in Canada and didn't have to watch it, I thought that was stupid. I thought he should have told the Cavaliers in advance. And third, I think this thing has been planned all along and that's the only thing that really disturbs me.

What did Barkley think of Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert's reactionary letter to Cavaliers fans?

Barkley: That was over the top. I mean, c'mon. His homecoming queen dumped him at the prom. You know he's going to overreact. It was stupid, but like I don't go overboard. We all say things in the heat of the moment. I think what him and Jesse Jackson said both are just stupid. … I think him and Jesse both need to shut the hell up

Does Barkley think LeBron can ever be compared with Michael Jordan?

Barkley:He'll never be Jordan. This clearly takes him out of the conversation. He can win as much as he wants to. There would have been something honorable about staying in Cleveland and trying to win it as the man. … LeBron, if he would've in Cleveland, and if he could've got a championship there, it would have been over the top for his legacy, just one in Cleveland. No matter how many he wins in Miami, it clearly is Dwyane Wade's team.

Was LeBron being unselfish by taking less money?

Barkley: There is some truth to [being unselfish by taking less money] but unselfish would have been saying, 'You know what? I was born here in Cleveland, these people deserve a championship and I'm the guy who can bring that to them.' Going to Miami, there is something to be said about that, but let me just tell you something, the whole other end of that spectrum is, if he could've brought a championship to Cleveland, that's totally different than bring a championship to Miami."

Is it OK to change teams in order to chase a championship?

Barkley: It's all right to do that late in your career. I've been consistent. When you get 35 and you're trying to chase it, that's totally different. I wouldn't have been chasing it at 25. I wanted to compete against Michael Jordan and Karl Malone and those guys when I was 25. If LeBron was 35 or 36, it would've been totally different.
