thank god this is over. now espn can get back to brett favre coverage.
what a joke
Initially, I honestly didn't mind ESPN dedicating an hour to it (and I hate ESPN more than anything). I mean, it is a pretty big deal and people have been talking about today for a few years. But then the coverage was just fucking horrible and it took them 20+ minutes to get to Lebron after saying it would be announced within 10 minutes. But yeah, they had to show photoshops of Lebron in each uniform he talked to and a fucking map of where fans thought he would go. Fucking ESPN. Is there some way we can kick Bristol, Conn out of this country?
I hate the NBA and ESPN so I didn't put that coverage on for one second. They even announced lebron's destination during the phillies broadcast. I don't feel like I missed anything

I am a so-so NBA fan. Worked for the Sixers so always interested but don't watch a lot. Was interested in this since it has been discussed for years.

I understand it's a huge story. I just can't stand being force fed news...especially by the tools on espn
I will watch the sixers, but if the league folded tomorrow I wouldn't be upset at all. The NFL is actually worse than the NBA these days. If it weren't for gambling I wouldn't watch football

I am with you. I have a really tough time with the NFL. I watch the Giants but that is it and even then, I really look forward to Penn State games more. The NFL is in the position it is because of gambling, plain and simple.
I get tired and annoyed with the NFL/NCAAF with coverage everyday it gets on ESPN, ESPN 2, etc. It's worse in the offseason. Baseball doesn't get too much coverage, only during the regular season and only in the offseason if a big name is becoming a free agent or a big trade is happening. But other than that, not a lot of coverage.

Give me a break. What the fuck did he owe Cleveland? How many players have gotten it done on their own throughout NBA history? Not many.
Sell out? He took less money for fucks sake.
MJ was not surrounded by greatness? Ha!
Lebron is 25 years old. In 20 years from now I bet you will be singing a different tune.
However, LeBron's decision does not come for another 18 hours or so and I'm still betting that he returns to Cleveland. Its hard for me to believe that he's gonna break Cleveland's heart on national TV. After all this hoopla he'll look like a hero for returning to his hometown team. I think this whole thing is a gimmick to give the Cavs management a wake up call to get him some real help on the court. Just my opinion.
Looks like I was wrong! I'm really surprised he left Cleveland. The next few days/weeks are gonna be really interesting. I'm really interested in who the Heat get to surround the new big 3. Mike Miller has already jumped on. I'd bet that Shaq and T-Mac are gonna jump on the bandwagon, maybe AI too and after the way the Lakers have treated Derek Fisher in free agency, I would not be surprised if he signed with them as well. Ugh, this is so bad for the NBA. Its basically gonna be the Lakers/Heat in the finals and no other team is really gonna matter. When teams start dumping old, washed up talent next season at the trade deadline to clear cap space the Heat are gonna absorb ever more decently talented, super desperate for a ring players to stack their roster. Looks like the Heat are now the Yankees of the NBA. I'm a Lakers fan but I have a bad feeling that Phil Jackson is eyeing that team after next season.
The Heat better hope they win a championship next year, I think its only gonna take one disappointing year before one of them starts bitching about not getting the ball enough or this or that.
I never thought I'd say this but, God I'd love for the Celtics to beat the Heat in the playoffs next year.
after digesting this one night ... i gotta say ...
a) i was dead wrong about him going to miami alhtough it became pretty clear by late afternoon yesterday
b) will there be a more hated franchise in the league now? ... they are pretty much guaranteed to be booed everywhere they go
c) it is clear fame and legacy is more important than anything amongst athletes ... lebron wants rings and i'd say he put himself in the second best situation to get one (chicago would be better imo) ...
d) holding a grandiose event like that and leaving was a major kick in the junk to cleveland ... a serious lack of class ... it's one thing to leave which i'm sure most would understand but to do it in that fashion is pretty sick ...
e) as the recent champ in my fantasy basketball league - i will make a guarantee that regardless of where i draft next season - i won't be picking lebron or bosh (he just sucks) ...
Lebron didnt want to come to Chicago, because of Michael Jordan????

The Miami Heat quickly followed up their triumph in the LeBron James sweepstakes by finding a taker for Michael Beasley.
But they had to virtually give away the No. 2 overall pick from the 2008 draft to do so.
Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the Heat agreed Thursday night to a trade that will send Beasley to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who can simply absorb Beasley into empty salary-cap space and furnish Miami with additional financial flexibility to continue the dramatic transformation of its roster.
To complete the trade, Minnesota must only part with a 2011 second-round pick to acquire Beasley. The teams have also agreed to a swap of unspecified future first-round picks.

The Wolves just acquired a player who will most likely score 20+ points a game next season for a SECOND ROUND PICK! This guy was taken one spot after Derrick Rose two years ago. I don't really believe the Wolves will be winning much this year again, but man, what a steal.

I had read they had been considering trading him regardless. I also read recently he admitted that he regretted leaving Kansas State after one year.

the guy is a bit of a head-case ... hopefully, his head gets screwed on a bit tighter next season as he's got loads of talent ...
the heat will have chalmers plus the big-3 ... they are basically gonna have a brand new bench ... can this work? ... i really don't think so ... wade and bosh have both had injury issues - they can't play 38+ mins per game ... who the heck is gonna make up the bench? ... i heard mike james is being considered ... good luck with that guy ...

This season will be about figuring out where the holes are and trying to fill them in the off-season. They'll still be really good, but no depth at all, which will spell their doom in the playoffs.

I'm not convinced it can work either. I'm not huge Bill Simmons fan, but he wrote this in his column yesterday, and I think it's pretty close:
"10. Let's say LeBron signs with Miami. Can you even make the Finals with LeBron, Bosh, Wade and nine minimum-salary guys? Because that might be next year's team … and if that's what happens, the answer is "no effing way." You don't win titles just because of your top three. That belittles the meaning of guys like Derek Fisher, Robert Horry, Steve Kerr, John Paxson, Brian Shaw … you could go on for hours naming role players who swung a title. The 2008 Celts lucked out by getting James Posey, Eddie House and P.J. Brown for practically nothing; Miami wouldn't have that luxury this summer, not with so many role players jockeying for contracts one year before the possible lockout. Nobody is taking less money to showcase themselves for a summer that might not happen. Even if Miami could spin Michael Beasley for a fourth guy (say, Trevor Ariza), that's still not enough. They'd need one more rebounder, point guard, a 3-point shooter and a center. Good luck.
11. Another problem: You realize how many minutes these guys would log on a three-man team? About 42-44 minutes for 100 games … and if anyone missed an extended stretch of games, then that would put even more pressure on the other two. Crazy. No way they win more than 50, especially with teams gunning for them every night. We've also never seen two perimeter superstar alpha dogs coexist for an NBA title -- not even when Jerry West and Elgin Baylor teamed up with Wilt Chamberlain against the aging Celtics in 1969. LeBron would have to accept becoming Mega-Pippen to Wade's Jordan. (Yeah, right.) Even during the final quarter of the 2008 gold-medal game, when everyone on the American team was staring at each other wondering who was going to step up against a red-hot Spain team, there were a few minutes of tentative, "I don't want to step on anyone's toes here" basketball before Kobe said, "Screw it, get out of my way" and took over the key portion of the game."

ya ... i posted the same article a dozen or so pages ago ...
thing is - there are gonna be tons of guys who are willing to take squat to play on that team ... good character role player guys ... the question is whether or not they can assemble a decent enuf bench to win ... miami is fortunate that lebron and wade both guard their positions real well ... they need a centre who can defend and rebound ... and a couple of shooters ... another back up big who just needs to rebound ... and they are gonna be solid ...

the heat will have chalmers plus the big-3 ... they are basically gonna have a brand new bench ... can this work? ... i really don't think so ... wade and bosh have both had injury issues - they can't play 38+ mins per game ... who the heck is gonna make up the bench? ... i heard mike james is being considered ... good luck with that guy ...
