No , really, shut the FUCK up and sing. Make us aware of a cause for good, but I don't give a shit about your politics. It's not the lobbyists , its the dickwads (congress) who listen to them.

Well, I'll speak for myself and many others... I personally LOVE his banter whether it offends people or not. There's more to performing than singing and playing your instrument. Vedder happens to have charisma that is unrivaled these days. He says what he fucking wants and doesn't give a fuck what people think or want him to do. That's what many of us (fans) love. That's part of it anyway... at least that's what I gather.

I hope he reads some of this shit on here. Imagine his thoughts of somebody saying, "Hey SHUT THE FUCK UP AND SING!". You're right fucko, I take the cake... I eat it too.

I never said that I was on a first name basis with him. I do not believe that I implied it. I wrote "I think" many times, which was meant to show that it is my opinion. I do not see people writing "Mr. Vedder" on here. By writing "Ed" , it is not to show ownership or any fucked up thing like that..it is because it is a "Pearl Jam site" and that is the name of their singer. Regardless of that..I stand by what I said. I am a nurse and I am caring to my patients, I try to give them a good experience and make them comfortable" Of course I do it for the money, too. But, if they are appreciative of what I do and feel a connection with me, then I am doing a good job...I am staying true to myself. I am not going to say "Oh, give me less money, because I do not want people to think that I really don"t care" That would be ridiculous.
This is the same with Mr. Vedder..I believe that he is true to himself..I am sure of it. After 18 years of Pearl Jam being my favorite band..I do feel that I know him to an extent...not in a personal sense....don"t get me wrong, but you can get a feeling about a person from their words, and from the shows, and from the interviews and from hearing their lyrics and their poetry. I do not think that a person could put so much emotion and truth into their work as he does and not feel passionate about it. It is NOT all about the money.

Now I'm a bit confused...you're beginning to come off a little bi-polar(no offense i guess). I mean, all of your previous posts on the topic, you come off quite narrow minded and sound as though you would take your own life if Mr. Vedder(haha) told you to. Then, all of a sudden you go and write something completely normal and down to earth like this.

With that said, I actually don't really care about what was said at the concert. I know that I'm going to be subjected to a certain amount of political opinion/bs when attending a PJ show. Especially one taking place in the DC area, as I have been to 5 of them now. I very rarely, if ever, agree with EV's political opinions. However, i'm able to look past it because I have such a love of the band's musical product.

What makes me want to contribute to these boards, and as you can see is not very often, is when members launch a full blown attack on a fellow member for expressing their opinion, and possibly looking for someone who maybe feels the same way. It is very hypocritical of people to tell the OP, and people like her, to simply stop going to the shows or to stop listening to the music if they don't like the "message." Can't the same be said for all of you? If you don't agree with the OP, DON'T contribute to the thread! Why do some members feel it's necessary to berate the OP with insulting comments. It simply makes for an unpleasant/rude environment.

I think it's fine that she expressed her opinion...more power to her.

I just think her opinion is really fucking stupid.

His comment went something like this (and I'm paraphrasing):

Is there anyone here who's a lobbyist? (a couple of hands go up - crowd boos in general)
Now, now... there are lobbyists who work for good things like (insert something good here).
And there are lobbyists who work for Goldman Sachs. If you're a lobbyist for Goldman Sachs, please kill yourself. You'll save the life of others... instead of taxpayers bailing out Goldman Sachs.... yada yada...

I don't really mean "kill yourself", but please change, and work for good.

    (again, I'm paraphrasing)

Hmmm....that doesn't sound that bad and he did correct it. I'm just sure he was on a role and didn't think before he spoke. Besides, we all know Pearl Jam/Ed is very political, are we really that surprised? Also, I would like to comment that I've heard Ed address suicide in a past interview, he very much spoke against it, so I think he was just being dramatic. I very seriously doubt he meant it literally. I hope you will attend future PJ shows, don't stop now!

(On a side note, this reminded me of a time I was at church and we had this back woods revival preacher say that if you voted democratically you would go to hell. I almost walked out, but I stayed, although I haven't been back to church sense. Sad thing is though, I'm quite sure this guy meant it. I must have skipped over that verse in the bible, lol). My point is, if i stayed through the rest of that, you can still love PJ,lol!

How is he political? He comments on stories that are in the news. He's as "political" as Jay Leno or David Letterman is. "George Bush is a bad president", "Goldman-Sachs fucked up". Well the clerk behind the counter at the 7/11 could tell ya that stuff.

Eddie is not under any obligation to provide a nice neat package of hit songs for your evening out.
It is the people that create something new and challenge the norm that make the world interesting.
Seeing Pearl Jam is not just about hearing the songs. It is an experience which includes the fans, the songs, the lyrics, the personalities of the band, the stadium, the city, the weather that day, the current events, political discourse, drunkeness, elation, resistance, creativity and lots of spitting and swearing.
This is not the Jonas Brothers.
Things may at times be uncomfortable.
but you will be spit out a better person.

Let me rephrase, "he is very opinionated and active." Although I have to disagree with you in saying that he just comments. He's not an idiot, I'm sure he does more than read the front page and start saying crap. He and the rest of the band do try to bring attention to political issues, as well as social.

**Thanks, usamamasan1, I've always had an understanding of PJ to be a very active band when it comes to this topic, for Christ sake, listen to their lyrics.
