The respect for personal opinion around here is astounding. I can't say I would have left the show over that statement but it's interesting how pissed people are getting over the fact that someone didn't like something and left, then dared to speak about it. It's not like mulva8 started a riot in the stands.
Can we all just give a collective, "meh" and move on?
Quite frankly people should mind their own business when it comes to religous, political, cohabitational beleifs, etc. We'd be a better world for it. I don't put too much into what Ed says, some of it I agree with...and other times...eh, not so much.
However, and this is a BIG however (regarding the financial meltdown of the world), I choose to listen to a band I associate with on a lot of levels especially this one. I don't consider myself a pure liberal, I'm probably best described as a liberal conservative. While I don't want to get caught up in the logistics of it all Ed has a right to say whatever he wants. And honestly people like Bernie Madoff deserve to get the shit kicked out of them, people that worked for these companies knowing they were stealing millions from people that had saved for decades (my parents among them!) without a second thought about it...well, I can't say I wish them well. Most of us lost money in the past couple of years, it sucks,but most of us are fairly young and can recover but to take everything from people that were relying on that to get them through til they died?? How do you justify that?
And for those who compare music to sports, you are way off...personally I think artists have a little bit more leway (and intellect) when it comes to speaking out on hot topics than our sports stars do. But thats just my opinion!

I agree with Honest Abe Ed is lucky to be in the position that he is in and takes advantage of his stage powers far to often. For example his comments in Columbus last week regarding the national day of prayer. Sometimes he should do his job and save the opinions for another time.

Well, I'll speak for myself and many others... I personally LOVE his banter whether it offends people or not. There's more to performing than singing and playing your instrument. Vedder happens to have charisma that is unrivaled these days. He says what he fucking wants and doesn't give a fuck what people think or want him to do. That's what many of us (fans) love. That's part of it anyway... at least that's what I gather.

I never said that I was on a first name basis with him. I do not believe that I implied it. I wrote "I think" many times, which was meant to show that it is my opinion. I do not see people writing "Mr. Vedder" on here. By writing "Ed" , it is not to show ownership or any fucked up thing like that..it is because it is a "Pearl Jam site" and that is the name of their singer. Regardless of that..I stand by what I said. I am a nurse and I am caring to my patients, I try to give them a good experience and make them comfortable" Of course I do it for the money, too. But, if they are appreciative of what I do and feel a connection with me, then I am doing a good job...I am staying true to myself. I am not going to say "Oh, give me less money, because I do not want people to think that I really don"t care" That would be ridiculous.

After 18 years of Pearl Jam being my favorite band..I do feel that I know him to an extent...not in a personal sense....don"t get me wrong, but you can get a feeling about a person from their words, and from the shows, and from the interviews and from hearing their lyrics and their poetry. I do not think that a person could put so much emotion and truth into their work as he does and not feel passionate about it. It is NOT all about the money.

I mean, all of your previous posts on the topic, you come off quite narrow minded and sound as though you would take your own life if Mr. Vedder(haha) told you to. With that said, I actually don't really care about what was said at the concert. I know that I'm going to be subjected to a certain amount of political opinion/bs when attending a PJ show. Especially one taking place in the DC area, as I have been to 5 of them now. I very rarely, if ever, agree with EV's political opinions. However, i'm able to look past it because I have such a love of the band's musical product.
What makes me want to contribute to these boards, and as you can see is not very often, is when members launch a full blown attack on a fellow member for expressing their opinion, and possibly looking for someone who maybe feels the same way. It is very hypocritical of people to tell the OP, and people like her, to simply stop going to the shows or to stop listening to the music if they don't like the "message." Can't the same be said for all of you? If you don't agree with the OP, DON'T contribute to the thread! Why do some members feel it's necessary to berate the OP with insulting comments. It simply makes for an unpleasant/rude environment.
